One of the best 10 minutes spells I've seen in a long time in Galway football. Kelly, Daly, McDaid, Cooke, Finnerty and Molloy all blew the opposition out of the water. Absolutely bossed midfield.

Massively impressed by the three goals.

The right option taken every single time and while the ball carrier could have scored any of those, a fist to the net is a higher percentage.

Even looking at the top teams and experienced players you'd often see them shooting when a hand pass was on.

First time seeing Cooke, I think he fits the bill of the modern midfielder... has pace, can score.
Dublin are the bench mark and they pick players who could play HF/HB and I think he fits that mould.

Cooke has a real Conroy look about him which is a very good thing. Get Daly in an ice bath in case we need him tomorrow.

Congrats to the u21s. We've had a lot of bad years at this grade so we'll take this win. There's some good footballers in this team. Everyone knows how good Kerry are. Will take a serious performance just to be competitive but no real pressure on Galway just go out there and give it a go.

Hopefully the first part of a treble.

Who did GBFM give MOTM to?

Obviously Kerry have dominated at minor over the past few years but this team has four players who look like they are good enough for senior already.

Have Kerry that many players or are they more of an even team?.

The consensus after the Cork game from their own supporters was they were awful against Kerry... I watched mostly the Dublin game that evening so couldn't comment.

Have they anyone as good as Daly?... he's half proven already.

Not sure about the GBFM MOTM but McDaid got the official one.

That Kerry team is full of class to be fair. There's easily 4 future senior starters there and very few weak links from what I seen. We're going to be about 4/1 to beat them which gives a fair indication of what'll be expected to happen. Our lads look like a confident young bunch, they can go out and give it a crack with no pressure on them. Molloy, McDaid and Cooke looked very much like future senior starters for us today. Obviously we've seen that Daly is very comfortable there already

Jack O'Connor going in there as manager is an indication of how seriously Kerry are taking this and how highly he rates that side. Meanwhile it might sound harsh but I think its fair to say our management team wouldn't exactly inspire confidence.

Horrendous traffic again getting into this dump. With any luck a swallow hole will develop underneath it in the near future and rid us of this kip. Nearly 2hrs to travel from North Galway

Don't seem to see the other 10000 already in the ground complaining. I found the traffic fine myself. No worse than any other match day.

Well if we didn't get the result there I'd have put it down to our senseless kick-out strategy.

50-50 kick outs the entire second half while we conceded to Kildare.

Makes no sense and it saw Kildare reel in a five point lead.

If it wasn't for S.Walsh taking players on we'd likely have lost to Kildares subs.

Badly need to get a tactician in there next year if we want to push on.

    This is absolute rubbish.

Harder to get into this kip with 10k at a match than get from Galway to Croker when there's 80k

Welcome back to the big time guys.

Division 1 will be tough for everyone next year.

Walsh looks every inch the Michael Donnellan of his generation.

Lindy can't get brought into match without starting a scrap and ending up getting pinned to the ground.

Flynn has the positional sense of a sod of turf. Constantly in the way of the runner. Never offering himself as an option.

A game we should have won by 8 to 10 pts but bad options and silly mistakes nearly cost us promotion. We need a big improvement from here out or we'll be the whipping boys next year.

Thought Galway looked very nervous towards the end. And that was probably understandable because promotion was a target this year and they were so close to it. The forwards never really got going today, apart from Walsh. McHugh was anonymous today and could be struggling to keep his place for the final.

Had we lost Walsh when he injured his shoulder in the first black card tackle we'd still be a division two team this evening. He was immense.

He was absolute class. He is a player who can run as fast carrying the ball as without it. He's had an impressive campaign so far.

Today, he caught a ball in the middle and ran directly into the heart of defence before popping over an important point.

Thought Sice and Armstrong did ok today. But Brannigan takes on some awful shots. He needs to be smarter.

Have to say the traffic was no worse than a normal game. Only 12000 here.

Kickout strategy, or lack of it, is unforgiveable.
Other counties must be laughing getting our kickouts down their midfielders throats.
    Shane Walsh saved us.
Backs are a bit of a joke.

good win for hurlers in the end but they were poor for most of the match.

The match programme today was terrible. Not even a page with the football division 2 table. Awful effort.

Fine stadium, good facilities and a good pitch. When you actually go to a kip or a dump you will know it.

In fairness, there are major issues with Pearse stadium. It's ALWAYS windy there. Even on a nice day like today, there was still a good breeze. And there's serious traffic management issues with it (it's Galway city after all). In saying that, I found traffic nowhere near as bad as usual today.

Do you believe the description of Pearse stadium as a kip or a dump is an accurate description of the stadium. The wind and traffic are different issues

No I don't. But I also believe accessibility and the wind are factors to consider when defining how good a stadium is.

Accessibility has to be one of the main criteria for evaluating a stadium. Pearse has a great stand but there are serious access issues. I've been to all of Galway's league football matches and there's just no comparison to other grounds. Enniskillen, Navan, Newry are very easily accessible. Same with Castlebar. I'm not advocating a change from Pearse stadium - it's the best stadium in Galway but it has some major issues, accessibility being the most obvious.

I'd like to think somewhere in a pub in Tuam this evening there's an oul lad with a pint saying "Shane Walsh is the fashtest man in Ireland"

Big day for both teams. Footballers were always on top but as usual it was a struggle to close it out and we were hanging on in the end. As others have said Shane Walsh's direct running was the difference in what at times was a painful game to watch. He has the talent if we can get the best out of him consistently. A lot of below par performances today but really performance can be put to one side for this one. We just had to win that game regardless of performance. Another year in Division 2 would have been a major setback.

Be good to get a run out at Croke Park next weekend and try and end our hoodoo up there. Kildare gave it a bit of a go but weren't overly bothered. They have a lot more to come next week but our most important objective from the spring has been achieved and it takes the pressure off us for next week.

Hurling opened disastrously, we looked totally at sea for first 20 minutes or so. We worked our way back but Waterford's two goals looked to have finished it. A lot of people left with us 10 down. The hurlers get a lot of stick (much of it warranted to be fair) but today they dug in and it was great to see us come back strong and also finish strong. I've seen lots of games the last few years where we start slowly, launch a fightback before letting it slip again at the end. We missed a few chances at the end to kill the game but we owned the last 20 minutes or so. Waterford were down a few players but they all got a run at some point.

For Galway you'd hope this can be a springboard for the rest of the year. Lots of question marks raised by this performance again though but we have the chance to build on this now against Limerick and hopefully get into a final. Joe Canning really helped to pull us back into it before getting sent off. Hopefully there's nothing serious in the knock he got. Daithi Burke when he moved out did well. He was badly caught for both goals though. Think Niall Burke may have given the management a decision to make for the next game and Conor Whelan came back into it in the 2nd half. Monaghan I don't regard as an option this year but he's doing well so far. We still look like we've massive work to do to bridge the gap but today was a morale boosting victory.

Looking at both games today, and both warmups, it seems like Galway go through prett casual drills with little intensity.
Kildare had a pretty good drill running through on goal, 3 forwards v 3 backs. Waterford seemed to use high tempo drills too.
It feels like Galway footballers have no kickout plan, and in the forward line they're at a loss to make space. It looks like f-all is done in training on how to make space as a forward unit. Fast forward 12 months and they'll get eaten alive in D1 unless a lot changes in training. Backs are going to be in big trouble against Mayo, Sweeney got turned very easy twice and it should have led to 2 Kildare goals, lavelle made one great save. Sweeney did make some big blocks in the second half.

Hurlers worked some half decent ball into the forwards. Theres still some brainless over the shoulder clearances that hand possession straight back to Waterford but they blew a lot of cobwebs off today hopefully

It's crap. Horrible to get in and out of even for club games. The breeze would cut you in two and ruins most games. The first come first served in the stands means you can't even go for a whizz without having a squatter in your seat when you get back. 30% of the stand is virtually useless because of the massive concrete piers.
Yes it's ok as far as build quality buts that's about it.
