The area between the dials does a few different things, it looks really good when sat nav is shown there. Not sure if that's doable on the Golf, it is on the Passats and Tiguans so I'd say it's similar.

After living with the active display for a month in my Passat i love it.,

I don't think that any of the GTi's that are demo'ing in dealers at the moment have Sat Nav installed on them so it's hard to tell what's going in the centre of the AID if there's no Sat Nav.
JoeA3 is correct that there is some limitation on displaying Sat Nav in the AID but I thought it was to do with displaying on the headunit and the AID concurrently.

I'd personally rather the older dials as the AID is just something else to go wrong but VW Ireland are not offering the option to delete it and give money back for doing so.

I should add... the rattle was still there lol.

Got one of the rattles in my Golf sorted .. passenger seat adjuster also rear view mirror on passenger side wasn't descending when reverse was selected even though "L" was selected ..

I've a slight rattle coming from the passenger side a pillar, I'll probably fix it myself to save a dealer trip. Other than that it's the same as day one.

I've mine booked in for Friday to get a squeak/groan from my front suspension looked at (again).

It's been there for a long time... I mentioned it to the dealers at the service last year and they greased the front left wishbone which seemed to solve it for a while but it's back again. It is fairly subtle though, hence why it's taken me so long to go back again about it... the hassle factor of bringing it back sometimes outweighs getting the problem fixed ;)

I have the exact same problem but again fairly supple.

Let me know how you get on with them.

Will do. I expect it is the wishbone but maybe they'll replace bushings this time rather than just greasing it.

    Hi Joe
If you remember all the problems I had with my 132 3 door this became the 2nd biggest ballache. Basically they greased the wishbone bushes which was a fix for 1 day then after I went legal the entire front suspension came out and had all bushes, bearings and mounts replaced.

Jaysus! I hope it doesn't come to that! As I said it is pretty subtle, its barely noticeable some days and very obvious other days. And definitely only from the passenger side.

I thought mine was the passenger top mount as there was loads about this on early Gti on UK forums. Not sure what the real cause was as by the time I'd had the touch screen and controller done I think they just wanted rid of me

I had the strut mounts replaced on the GTI. That was a different kind of noise though. You'd hear it just turning the wheel when stationary. This noise is different... I hear it when coming to a slow stop (say at a junction) or when moving slowly in a carpark. Doesn't seem to happen when going over bumps and I never hear it once on the move.

Similar to you though, the grease "solution" was far from permanent so I'll be reminding them on Friday that what they did last time didn't last. I usually find them good for warranty stuff. Touch wood.

Does it happen when you have it on full lock when you reverse. Sounds like a light thump

No, don't think it does it in reverse or on lock. More so when driving fairly slowly (forwards)... and turning right - e.g. turning into my driveway, I turn right, into the drive and as the weight shifts to the left I hear it groan/squeak a bit.

My other half kept telling me she was hearing noise from the front when parking and reversing etc. I didn't notice it till it became a light thump. Ended up with a left wishbone which didn't cure it then I had a new steering rack. That was on the 151

You had a fair share of annoying issues between the 2 cars so Dave. Do you miss the GTI now that you're in the BM?

95% of the time I prefer the BMW. Traffic on my commute is getting heavier every month so there's more comfort in the BMW. The last decent drive that I truly enjoyed in the GTI was new years eve 2016 down onto Achill island to stay with friends. I was late the roads were dry and empty and and it flew.

There's a thread on www.golfmk7.com 'Noise From Suspension' for the last few years it looks that the suspension top mounts plus bearings is the main culprit .. The other thing mentioned was steering rack bearings (the ones for the pinion) according to a poster also they were of slightly different design ..

I asked for opinions a few pages back about Gti vs Leon Cupra.
Just wanted to say thanks to all for the helpful comments and thoughts.
After driving both and my thoughts going back and forth more than once, I have just put in an order for the Cupra.
Guess I am now banished from this thread!!

Is it the new facelift version? They're coming in at around 300bhp aren't they? What other spec does it have?

I had been waiting for the face-lift since Xmas when I first read about it so yep tis the new model. It's called the Cupra 300 but bhp wise I think it's actually 296.
Fairly good spec as standard. I only felt the need to add Active Cruise and an alarm. Had no need for navigation or upgraded sound. Only other upgrade I did consider was the winter pack as it includes heated seats (have those on my Polo) but in the end decided against it. Oh... And it's DSG of course.

In a perfect world I'd have gone for the Cupra ST with the awd option but it's significantly more money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,554 ✭✭✭JoeA3

yeah it's probably 300ps and 296bhp. The manufacturers tend to use the PS number cos it's a bit bigger I reckon ;)

What colour did you go for?
And are the wheels in the pic below the standard cupra wheels?

    They are class looking.

Well I had the car in today and they replaced (rather than lubricate) the wishbone bushings but unfortunately it didn't cure the issue. So they're taking it in again next week and replacing the suspension top mount. I had those mounts replaced in the GTI and it did cure a creak/squeak in that car but I thought that was a slightly different type of noise tbh. I'm not hopeful it'll fix this problem but we'll wait and see.

Hard choice between that red in your pic and the dark grey. Went for the grey on the end. Those wheels are part of the performance pack which is silly money. I stayed with standard ones.

Is it that bad Joe for the inconvenience of dropping it in?
