They even took a close up of one of the correct wheels. Ad also says the car has 298bhp via a power upgrade (remap?). Either way I couldn't buy that car with an odd wheel, it would drive me mad every day.

You'd have to insist they get you the correct replacement OEM wheel - which is not cheap!

Neither does the car have xenons. Criminal omission when you look at what else was spec'd on it.

I'd be very wary of a remapped one claiming those figures too. The turbos in the early MK7's were known to be weak..

All that and its at least 5k overpriced.

The other GTi they have is identical right down to the colour and spec except is has the standard 18" GTi wheels.

Nav looks bigger in the odd-wheeled one

    Jesus those wheels are horrendous.

Doesn't look like there'd be any point speccing the bigger radio unit in the facelift.

Not really. The new "basic" screen is the same size as the outgoing pro nav.

However I'm not sure if you get the Nav maps on the active display between the speedo / tacho without the pro screen. That is the case with the Tiguan afaik.

Are there any Clubsport S's (plural?) in Ireland?

Not an S, but I saw a 171 Clubsport on the M50 this afternoon. Looked very nice.

Two lovely spec 141 GTis for sale in Howth at the moment. I think the asking is a little high at 30k but Im sure there'd be some room for negotiation. Also, one seems to have 3 Santiagos and 1 'something else' which I find surprising to say the least- or maybe its just my eyesight!

You would be insane to spend 30k on a 3 year old car when 6 or 7k more would have you in a new one (and on PCP so less interest thus closing the gap on cost too).

The 30k asking is kinda irrelevant... it won't sell for anything like that imo. At 25k it starts to make more sense.

One with a spec like that would be closer to 45k than 36k, but even at that, asking 66% of original list for a 3 year old car is pricey

    Yeah.
The new GTI-PP is a touch over 40k now. Add the options on that car (leather, big nav, keyless(?)) and you're quickly into 45k+. So quite a bit more than "6 or 7k" more tbh.

Saw a 2016 black 3dr GTI this morning with the 19s I like on it. Looked class.

Anyone having any issues with park pilot? This week I've had three occasions "park pilot not available" message on screen.

I suppose I'd look on it a bit differently as I'd rather a new non-pp for 7k more than the additional spec on a 3 year old car.

I've had it 2-3 times in 12 months. A reset of the radio fixes it (press and hold the power button for 7-8 seconds until it reboots).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

There is a software update for the park pilot error.

The theory as to what brings up the error is the parking sensors being activated before the radio boots up, generally.

I'm confident I'll win an "award" for this achievement but look what I managed to do today....

I was having a bad morning. Lost keys to the house. Generally cranky and my daughter was roaring in the back seat. I thought my sunvisor was rattling so I gave it a a good ol fist thump. This is the result of my stupidity....

    5098A9A3-425D-4191-BCC3-698CD0C2DA82_zps4txr0ul3.jpg

I got the bits of glass out and now it looks like this...

A new sunvisor is ballpark €120! Good job I'm not big on checking myself out.

On a side note, I spun up to Dublin today and I was 20 mins in convoy with my 3-door identical twin driving through Dublin traffic. Several people gawked at us like it was a deliberate convoy...

Drove a 7.5 GTI today, manual. Plenty of poke in it, there was only 20kms on it so it felt a bit tight but low down torque etc all felt right. Much more involved type of driving compared to what I'm used to.

Dealer won't know til April 1st what sort of incentives VW are doing for July which is when a factory order would arrive.

The upgraded seats with the WL4 code are now €1200 instead of €800 and they've a different name, honeycomb something I think.

Not sure what to make of the digital display to be honest. I wouldn't be against needles sticking around for a while!

So I added the upgraded seats, innovation pack, sound system upgrade and 19" wheels, in 5 dr. Torn between a 3 and a 5 if I was to go for a GTI.

They have an R in indium grey, 3dr, DSG, parked up in new stock waiting to be cleaned up. Looks well.

GTI would be a fun car to live with, no doubt. I'll sleep on it all for a week or so anyway.

@MarkN - what dealer was that if you don't mind me asking? What colour was it?
The previous Alcantara upholstery upgrade on the Mk7 was €900 afaik and given the VRT increase on the new model it's not surprising there's another price bump. It's bloody hard to justify these increases though when VW UK aren't charging anything more compared with the outgoing model.
That sounds a lot like my planned build spec, minus the 19s, in 5dr PP.

    Frank Keane Liffey Valley.

The changes are a bit strange alright, I know someone who bought a 1.2 highline last week, that has keyless entry and a nice push button to start, a 44k GTI in facelift doesn't have the same thing!

The outgoing highline is loaded up with kit. Keyless is around 400 quid option now. Maybe it'll become standard again in time or added to some new 172/181 pack. It's a great feature imo.

Had a look at a few Golfs today myself. Really don't like the look of the new headunits to be honest. The 8 inch one reminds me of an aftermarket fitment tbh, the glass is a smudge magnet and the lack of a lot of the shortcut buttons means doing certain things takes longer. They are quicker though and the resolution is great. Those new DRLs that look like LEDs on the halogen lamped cars aren't LEDs either.

Had a spin in a pre-facelift GTE too, much better than I expected. Relaxing to drive and surprisingly fun to drive. Would be tempted but the boots pretty small and it didn't have a few bits of spec I'd like.

I know what you are saying about the head unit looking aftermarket but I prefer the more filled space so think it's nice especially when is on. To me, the digital instruments would take more getting used to.

Yeah, the digital instruments are nice but the more I looked at it the more I thought having actual dials looked crisper. If they made better use of the blank space between the dials I would have preferred that too. It's nice but given the choice I'd have old school dials i think.

I didn't mess around with it but I assumed the middle bit would show range or consumption or I dunno. Seems a vast blank space if not!

It'll show the Nav maps too but as I mentioned earlier I'm not 100% sure if that works with the standard Nav.
I've seen videos where the speedo/rev counter dial size grows/shrinks depending on what's shown in the middle.
