If you know the charges are so high for those calls, why do you make them on three?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,546 ✭✭✭jcd5971

Can you be really cheeky and cancel with three and then sign up again to the new contract and get a new phone or will they kind of blacklist you?

I'm sure you can. Your money is as good as any other new customer.

There is a good deal for public sector workers...less than twenty quid for free calls and texts to any network or landline at any time and also 5 gb of data.
You have to contact one particular guy about it though - george@threegovstaff.com ...the call centre staff won't tell you about this...I had it all set up and then I cancelled my contract. Saving 20 quid per month.

How dodgy does that email and story sound though....

Bizarrely, it looks possibly legit. Site is registered to some Irish telecoms facilitator company whose clients include 3

Just cancelled. Was a bit of a palaver but got there in the end. Gonna move to virgin for €5 a month and then €25 after that for unlimited everything. Just wondering, if I've to give 3 thirty days notice, I'm still with them for another month so when should I move mobile company? Just before 3 cut me off in a months time? No point in moving company any sooner is there?

The contracts go up on the 3rd April, so I'm going to say before that. But the correct date is stated somewhere in the forum somewhere.

Taken from the 3 website We hope you’ll continue to enjoy the great value Three offers including Three’s exclusive All You Can Eat Data service. However, if you do not accept these changes you have the right to cancel your service within 30 days of this notice without penalty. You can do so by contacting us on 1800 818 021 by 3rd April 2017.

3 told me that I have to see out the notice period with them, and told me that I should port out on the day my contract ends, or the day before. I'm going to double check, though. I'm happy to just pay my final bill and port out early.

Thanks! I have a phone but it's probably not gonna last me too much longer so I'm looking for a plan that includes a phone but (unsurprisingly) I haven't found any decent phones for cheap or free. Any recommendations?

I just rang three there, another year left on my contract and due an upgrade in 6 months. I'm clueless about phones but I got offered the next 2 months bills free at 60 euro to offset the increase I thought it was a good deal otherwise I'd be buying a new phone my self , the €120 will offset the new charges for 20 months . Can anyone tell me if this sounds ok?

You don't have to give the phone back if you cancel. In fact they'll unlock it for you so you can go to another network if you decide to, or you can stay with them on a SIM only plan that will still give you the flexibility to move when/if you want.

Up to you but I wouldn't tie myself into another contract for the sake of 100 quid.

That's a terrible deal. You can cancel your contract and go to sim only "3 Unlimited Flex Max" for EUR 30 per month which will save you EUR 30 per month.

If you want to get a discounted phone deal in the future, you're free to sign up to a new contract at that time with any operator.

Well they phoned me the other day after 3 weeks of my 'notice period' was up offering me a new contract with a new phone on a cheaper contract that I was on! Wasn't even a year into a new contract before I cancelled!.

Seems as if customer care is possibly a bit lacking with that deal.

A warning for anyone in my scenario :

I cancelled my contract about 4 weeks ago when this originally broke, I switched to a 30 day sim only 30 euro plan. I then purchased the 2GB add on for travel on the 15th of March. I then travelled in the UK from the 16th - 20th and got some texts over there telling me I was getting charged for data, the automated you've used 10 euro, 20 euro etc.

So I called them while I was there to see what was going on, the CSR told me to ensure I was on the 3 network as this was most likely the problem, from this call on I set it to 3 network or nothing at all, I continued to be charged for data, of course.

So I call on the 20th while waiting for the ferry home again, the CSR this time agreed with me that it appeared to be charging me incorrectly and that she would look into it and open a ticket and 3 would contact me in a few days, they didn't.

I called again today 8 days later, went through the whole story again, and he thinks it was related to the fact that I had changed my price plan at the start of the month, but he also can't understand why this would make a difference, he asked me to wait until my bill is issued, and then they can see the exact breakdown of data and to call back again for refund.

TL;DR, Buying the 2GB roaming add-on in the same month of changing price plan may not activate the add-on and you may be charged for roaming.

Has anyone that has cancelled their contract been informed that they will loose their number if they dont port or move to another tariff before the 30 days are up??

That's what's they said to me.

Just port to another network or 3PAYG on the last day your contract is up and your sorted, takes 5 mins.

And I was told the opposite, said I could do it a few days later. I'd be cautious and ask specifically on a recorded call/on print somewhere like chat or the 3 forum here if you're looking to wait.
