    Disagree.

Say its shipped with CNPost. CNPost Pay Acme Postal to deliver from China to Ireland.

    CN scan it in China
Acme Postal Scan it in China
Acme Postal Scan it in Ireland
    ..
.. Period while An Post do nothing
    ..
    An Post Scan it
    An Post Deliver it

Just because AP havent done intake doesnt mean its not here. The cages before AP process an item is a bit of a no mans land.

Who are these third party companies (Acme Postal in your theoretical example)? Surely they should be approached for their take on the matter.

Im not sure who exactly is used but it'd be the big logistics firms. AFAIK DHL have a fair number of cargo routes out of DUB so it wouldnt surprise me if they're involved.

In the same way that if your packets to a server in France are slow you contact Eir/Virgin/etc not Level3/Cogent: its not really the partners problem. They're offering a B2B service to the national mail carriers, the mail carriers are consumer facing and under service obligations.

Do you believe An Post is engaged in a conspiracy to delay certain packages for whatever reason?

    No conspiracy. Just ineptitude/indifference.

At the end of last year we had 11/11, Black Friday and then Christmas. This would cause a surge. 11/11 got the Minister for Post in Russia fired previously remember.

AP could have hired extra hands to deal with it, or put some overtime on to work the backlog down. Instead it appears (I cant waltz into the DMC to check) that they're dealing with current arrivals as normal and very very slowly processing the backlog of Chinese packet mail when they have spare manhours at the end of a sorting shift.

Perhaps you're right but as long as I've been purchasing from China (over 10 years) I've been experiencing these delays at all times of the year. I just think it's unfair to lay the blame on An Post when we don't know the logistics of how the packages actually get here.

    Conspiracies in Ireland....hell no :D

Did the police have a conspiracy to destroy whistleblowers.

Did the banks conspire to defraud the Public

Did the church conspire to cover up abuse

Did charities conspire to scam the public.

Just a sample of the better known ones haven't time to go through the thousands of others.
No sireeeee no conspiracies in Ireland...nothing to see here :pac:

Surely theres someone on boards working in the dmc or another mail centre that can give an insight as opposed to the local postie, as when ive asked my own hes told me the local unit is generally cleared out daily, so theres no cages of backlogged post sitting there.

Im dubious to container loads of packets from china sitting in the dmc given the volume of post that likely comes in from there, of course they could hold it offsite (iirc they still use the old anpost/sds site on the naas road at clondalkin for sorting at christmas) but still i edge on navis theory of it being the third party agent who chinapost use being slow.

Having sea shipped post items from asia before, 3/4 months can be the norm depending on ship schedules with the transhipping agents, so its not uncommon for large delays on the front.

With the volumes coming out of China these days, they are likely using containers, either full or part loads, via Rotterdam or Antwerp. These container ships leave usually twice a week, but can be affected by weather conditions en route etc. Same system from the European ports, departure on certain days of the week.
There are times when there is an imbalance in trade too, with too much traffic on certain routes, leaving no equipment or space on other routes. Things like Hanjin Line going bankrupt puts a lot of pressure on existing routes and equipment, as they were South Korea's biggest container line.
With the cheap post, it's probably not going to get priority over other, better paying cargo. Arrival into Dublin, and you have AP not paying overtime to sort Chinese post as they have already paid out for the November/Christmas rush. They couldn't dedicate more OT to parcels they get a pittance to deliver.

I'm sure customs are very busy too. Someone may have suggested that too much low value product is coming through and should be checked more thoroughly. It happens that they blitz certain channels at different times.

As the items seem to come much quicker to the UK is there any sort of mail consolidation service that you could say send 10 Ali items to and as each one is delivered to a UK address they are stored and then once all 10 have arrived they are all packed into one parcel and delivered for a reasonable fee?

If this was regular it would not be delays, but regular shipping times. But no, I've been ordering things for many years too and have never experienced anything like this before. Someone pulled the lever.

I think you may have misunderstood. I meant that I have been experiencing sporadic delays (>60 days) over all the time I've been ordering from China. I don't believe it is solely a recent phenomenon though the increased volumes may exacerbate the issue.

Sporadic yes, systematic no - that's new.

Well possible, but last year (except for Q4 when I ordered nothing) I was receiving my items as usual within one month, no problems.

If you look at the data analytics the average time took a big jump in Q4 last years but seems to be back to almost normal now.

Is it systematic though? Data from 17track for registered mail R#***CN shows that the average delivery time peaked in October 2016 at 36 days and has been falling since.

Data from 17Track is no good when:
    A. The packets arent internationally tracked
    B. The numbers expire before delivery

AP dont scan the packets anyways so many that are delivered never track as such.

I avoid untracked mail from china. its even more of a lottery. Any registered packets i receive show as delivered on 17Track. They have to be signed for and scanned on the postmans machine. I cant remember the last expired package i had.

Its not though. Thats the point of the thread. I've used it for years and its now that we're all having problems. Its slow yes, but its always worked.

I cant remember the last expired package i had.

Its never happened to me before, I now have 4(2 Delivered, 2 MIA).

There are no ebay announcements of problems with shipping anywhere in China. And ebay makes such announcements so their customers know what to expect and whats going on.
Last time I saw one was maybe about 2 years ago informing customers that items shipped via Shanghai could be delayed by one to two weeks for a short period.

Also I have surfed through feedback on the ebay sites and everything seems normal, the usual high rate of positive feedback and praise for fast delivery, with just the usual 1 or 2% of negative..no big upsurge at all.

Only place there seems to be a problem is here..there is no hint of any issues anywhere else.

Received something that was shipped at the end of January today. It was the package with the tracking number that said it was in customs for the past month. Funnily enough I fired off an email this morning to customs to see what the hold up was. They were very helpful. It wasn't in any of mailing centers in Dublin or Portlaoise. Then it was on my door step when I came home from work. Coincidence or what?

Unless you emailed at 2AM then not related. It would have to go out overnight to be in time for todays route.

x2 on that one, Your tracking number on 17track and aftership for SYBPL02415565 show's it left Malaysia on the 10th Feb and arrived in Ireland on the 11th Feb, fat chance of that happening!

As an aside it's not a number anpost will track either as it's not registered mail, so some of the confusion is boiling down to these number's making people think their item's are sitting here for week's on end when they likelihood is they are still on the other side of the world.

Recently three packages from Hong Kong, from three different sellers are disappearing after they leave Hong Kong, and aren't arriving to Ireland?!?!

First package left Hong Kong mid January and disappeared. Tracking shows it took a week to leave Hong Kong.

Second shows leaving Hong Kong mid February after a week of being posted and it never arrived to Ireland.

Third package left Hong Kong beginning of March. Poof! Gone into the either. Never arrived in Ireland.

Normaly it would take two weeks, four weeks max to arrive. They are all shipped by registered post. Do they just arrive to Ireland and then set aside? Or are they sitting in another country? One of the items is €150. The other two are only around €10.

I ordered stuff at the end of January and it's only today that i got it. I have no idea what the delay is as it took 6-7 weeks. I never had to wait that long. Delivery used to be half that.

I'm also waiting on another package that was shipped two weeks ago andd it's up on an post tracking so it's in the country already. So i can't make sense why some things are taking longer.

So your telling me they are just directing countainer loads from China into warehouses and leaving them there for months? What is there are important letters or packages in there?

I payed €15 shipping for the €150 package thinking it would come sooner.

There in lies the reason for the problem, An Post doesn't get a cent of that €15 so Irish begrudgery kicks in.

What are they going to say? Some of the over 36.5 million containers (2015 numbers) that left Shanghai got delayed on the way. Do they even talk to the public about delays?

So why is nobody anywhere except Ireland complaining about massive delays...and why no ebay announcements of any problems in China.

And why on earth would the Chinese ship this mail by sea when the entire lot would be liable for refunds long before it arrived...in effect shipping it by Sea would be giving it out as freebies...and the Chinese ain't that stupid.

The problem has to be Irish..NOTHING ELSE MAKES SENSE!!

If you think all this vast amount of produce, the majority of which has free postage, is being shipped by air then you really need to check with any of the major couriers and see the prices they charge for air mail.

If you think ebay care about Ireland, or China cares about Ireland then you are mistaken. We are an insignificant market on the periphery of Western Europe.

Anyway I am not going to convince those of you who believe An Post is at fault so I'll leave you to your unfounded speculation.

When is the money (including lost growth) Michael Noonan took in the Pension Levy going to be paid back?

We're part of a larger supply Chain, they dont fly Shenzen to Dublin. We're an extra hop from Heathrow where this is likely to land.

Shenzen to Rotterdamn is 22 days by ship, so some of it may be surface. That matches the 5wk max users here often see. It doesnt explain the 18wk waits we're seeing now. Mail is getting to Antrim and London just fine, its only that last hop thats problematic.

As the USO AP need to announce if theres a problem, not just pretend its not happening because it doesnt suit their budget.

There are hundreds China Airline flights into Europe everyday....what other airlines charge for air mail is not relevant.Postage rates in China are kept artificially extremely low by the Chinese Government.

The Chinese government sponsors export shipment, because it keeps China working and brings in prized foreign currency.
You cannot compare China's hybrid communist/capitalist system with Europe's pure capitalism.

There may be hundreds of flights from China, but they aren't going to accept low paying cargo for the sake of it.Do you think they would leave off pallets of Samsung, Apple, Sony etc to put cheap low value product? The common theme from the chinese sellers on the likes of eBay seem to suggest "up to 45 days" before opening a dispute on losses, so they expect it to go by seafreight, not air.

Re addresspal, ive not used it due to lack of tracking so i tend to stick to parcelwizard but same setup, im still down 2 packages from october and so are some friends too. Last tracking on them is from the 30th december leaving malaysia but no sign of them in the uk since.

Given none of them are using anpost but all originate from china is why im wary of pointing the finger to anpost. Incedently ive just ordered 2 items this week from the same seller, one sent direct and one via PW, so will be interesting to compare delivery time differences.

I posted in the Aliexpress thread that my local postman told me there's literally mountains of stuff in the sorting centres as it arrives via container and they get paid feck all if anything for postage so it is way down on the list of priorities for An Post.
