If you go into my games and apps now and choose memberships it will show you have a gold sub and show the current GwG titles.

Handy, but it just brings you to the relevant app, meaning it still takes ages to go into the EA Access app.

Seems to be a file explorer app there now if you go into the insiders app you can opt in. Haven't had a change to try it but seems to include access to certain local directories.

I was fiddeling around with the File Explorer, it doesnt give you access to anything on the console itself but if you attach your external HD, you have access to it as if you were accessing it from a computer though I dont see how that is different to just plugging it in and using the Media player to watch movies or listen to music. All I can think it might be good for is for jailbreaking/modding the console

Almost certainly not. Microsoft wouldn't let this anywhere near an Xbox One if they thought for even a second that it would encourage jail breaking.

Doesn't one of the football games require file access? Something to do with importing team names, etc? That's probably what this file explorer is all about.

I don't think you are looking at the bigger picture pal.
It's obvious that the only uses of a file explorer are to look for your vids and your docs.
As we already have a media player in the xbox now, the next logical step is one that most of us can't wait for!!!

Microsoft Office for Xbox One!!! :D

*I wrote that as a joke, but now I'm worried it might actually happen :o

It's fairly certain that it will be here shortly. The Windows 10 Apps of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, One Note, etc. could very easily be published on the Xbox Store because of their Universal App nature.

Universal apps like Microsoft Maps and Weather are already there.

It is looking very likely actually :D

Maybe they'll use having Office on the machine as an excuse to support keyboard and mouse, finally allowing FPS fans to think they own a PC :pac:

You mean we'll have to update our graphics and audio card drivers all the time and the spend 40 minutes tweaking he settings before finally settling down to a nice 2 minute gaming session? Can't wait ;)

    All that and then some!
That's the promise of project Scorpio :pac:

I hate keyboard and mouse myself! I'd be plugging in a controller to play a point and click game :D

    https://majornelson.com/2017/03/20/arena-and-fan-inspired-feature-updates-start-rolling-out-to-insiders-this-month/

New stuff coming to preview. Custom gamer pics and the ability to filter the activity feed. So back to friends only for that finally. May games and apps can be filtered by One and 360 filters too.

I wonder how they're going to filter out/police the inevitable penis pics.

Also, other than writing, I have absolutely no creative talent whatsoever, but I'd love some kind of boards.ie themed logo for the club.

I'd say they'd go as far as handing out lifetime bans on consoles from Live. Don't worry, I'll find a way around it.

It's been a thing on ps4 for a while. You have 2 pictures there. An avatar you pick from a list everyone sees and and profile pic only people you set as close friends see. Logic would say MS do the same...... maybe :D

Got the update and navigating is faster than before. Raging that Snap is gone though. It was very handy to snap TV during The Witcher's long loading times.

Some new stuff gone live in alpha ring. SO far I've noticed new sorting for 360/one in my games and apps and ability to set status from the guide without having to go to your profile page.

Snap was very resource intensive and not used much, apart from streaming.

They need PiP or overlay mode for TV and the video apps asap. I'm sure some of that is down to the app developers themselves, but Microsoft ought to have it for their own apps at least

From what the devs have been saying, supporting any kind of PIP mode takes too much system resources. Doesn't look like it's going to be happening anytime soon.

Pip/Snap - same thing. Takes too many resources.

Well, they've already built overlay mode for Cortana, Achievements and some other apps.

I don't see the problem really when a lot of people were happy to take the performance hit in order to use the Snap feature.

Alpha Ring finally has the option to get rid of all that crap in the community feed :)

Since the new dash it keeps trying to update all my installed games, and there's no option to stop the update just pause it. I unchecked the box saying keep my games up to date but it still keeps trying to force them. Pain in the hole.

The overlay isn't the same as running two full processes simultaneously.

A lot of people did like snap though, the decision to remove it was quite contentious.

It's not the same but I believe Skype essentially has PiP in its overlay mode currently (though that might just be on PC for now), so video apps should be able to overlay in a similar fashion. Its not the whole app I want, just the video part.
