Pixelgate has now made its way to BBC.

Nintendo Switch owners complain about dead pixels

Thousands of owners of Nintendo's new console, Switch, have complained about dead or stuck pixels creating distracting and annoying dark squares on their screens.

Finally got a refund from gamestop for mine, took over an hour in store and a call to Nintendo UK to pressure them into it.

Just have to wait for more neon stock elsewhere now.

What did you get a refund for?

    Dead pixels?

Think Earthwormjack was the owner experiencing really bad Wi-Fi problems.

Brutal WiFi performance even at 1ft distance from router and for some reason my storage space was stuck at 10.3gb with nothing installed so I couldn't even download zelda from the store again.

First ever hardware I brought back, I'm one of the unlucky launch day buyers this time, unfortunately.

Nintendo support were great though, dealt with my problem instantly. The guy from Nintendo was pissed at gamestop actually, told me to ring him back when I was in the shop and he'd tell them to swap/refund the system there and then.

WiFi performance was awful, I was getting half the speed of my other devices while being 1 foot from the modem. So I was factory resetting it to return it to gamestop.

Thought I'd see after a reset if I missed any Internet settings and noticed I only had 10gb of space without a game installed.

My Switch WiFi is terrible when connected to my router (Huawei B593s-22) so I decided to make a hotspot on my Nexus 6P and what do you know I saw a massive difference!?

Basically, when connected to my router the Switch ALWAYS stuttered when playing even basic videos trailers videos from the eShop but the same videos when played using the phone hotspot were silky smooth!?

Does anyone else have the same router as me?

    Thanks,
    M

    That sucks man,

I'm having a few WiFi issues also but that kind of thing is most likely firmware IMO, once that gets an update I'm sure a lot of these things can be tweaked....

The storage space thing is obviously dodgy, I think I saw Boogie 2988 or other YouTube guys talking about their friends getting that one...

Hope your new one works a bit better...

Anyone else still waiting on parcel motel delivery from amazon? Mine arrived with them Friday morning and still not delivered. Beginning to think they "lost" it and some parcel motel employee has a new switch as a result . Never again

I bought the official Nintendo case that comes with a screen protector for €20.
Had no intention of using the screen protector until I read the reports about the dock scratching the screen, threw that 1 on anyway and so far so good...

Exactly the same as you, I had not wanted to use a screen protector but the dock scratching BS convinced me!!

I've pre ordered the anker tempered glass screen protector from amazon. Release end of march. They're known for good quality so I'll go with them.

Sony weren't particularly receptive to dead pixels on the PSP back in the day, so not exactly Nintendo being especially difficult or mean, just following the industry norm.
    https://www.cnet.com/uk/news/sony-answers-psp-dead-pixel-gripes/
but then that wouldn't make as good a headline.

Apparently the Vita was no different.
There was no exact Sony policy but some stores accepted the device back as faulty, and issued a replacement.

Nintendo is actually far better than anyone when it comes to dead pixels. They will take back and replace any device with any number of dead pixels while the likes of Sony will only take them back if they have a certain number of them.

So it's a totally fabricated story. 'I con't believe Nintendo would produce LCD panels with dead pixels!'. Frist Nintendo don't produce them and second it's an inherent flaw with production of said panels, it happens just not as much as it used to. Also Nintendo will replace defective units so I don't really see the problem??

So, why the fup does this story persist?
Is it the usual muppets trying to undermine the brand for some ill-defined reward?

It's all a bit ridiculous, isn't it Ted?

Bad news gets more clicks with new hardware is what I've always felt. People see 'switch screen is great' think OK no big deal, see 'switch screen has dead pixels and Nintendo doesn't care' will have people thinking I gotta read this!

    Yes. Unfortunately.

I suppose there are a lot of really lazy journalists who just want a "sensational" story.

What grinds my gears with the Switch is the constant reporting that it's not as powerful as PS4 or XBOX. I know it's a fact that it's not as powerful but it feels like someone constantly telling me that my motorbike doesn't have as many wheels as their car.

Seems an awful amount of issues with pixels, scratches, WiFi, the wrist straps being able to be put on backwards, the big elephant in the room which is the joy con signal being problematic at best.
It's clear that they rushed it to market & it still confuses me that Zelda is smoother in handheld mode than it is docked. I bought one last week but I know the machine ain't perfect & is going to be easy to improve on.

313,700 week 1 sales in Japan according to this tweet

    https://twitter.com/ynakamura56/status/838933524321189888

That's not bad given it's March. Still early though, let's see how it sells through 2017, especially if Mario stays on track for Christmas

Within 10,000 sales of the PS4 on launch. Not too shabby Nintendo, must keep it up now.

There's definitely a few problems, I've been on the receiving end of them already in regards to the switch, so much so I had to return mine today. Just the media loves to jump on the slightest issue with anything really.

I've seen some valid complaints and stupid ones since release.

Think I'm going to see if WiFi improves with the first system update, if not I may return myself...

I can't see myself playing Mario Kart 8 out and about tethered if I have one bar with my phone in my pocket... :(

Just because the switch version of chardee macdennis has been put on hold indefinetly, doesn't give you the right to rag on the switch.

I'm not ragging on it, I literally just bought one an hour ago. Just seems odd for them to have it on the site if it's not their policy!

A switch CharDee MacDennis would be amazing though....

It makes perfect sense for them to have a pixel replacement policy. Everyone does. If someone like Sony or Apple don't, that is your story! Having the policy doesn't mean you will always adhere to the letter of the policy, it's the minimum level of expectation. They are free to exceed it. However if they don't have a policy, every time someone complains about dead pixels you have to get independent arbitration to define what is a reasonable expectation for the consumer to have. And that's time consuming and expensive. Of course, if you have a massive batch of faulty product that is within the spec of what your panel manufacturer considers acceptable, and you don't want to absorb the cost of replacing all those panels, well you can make the call to fall back on the policy and tell your customers to suck it up.

It's a non-story. But sure, Ninty refuse to talk to us about future developments for the Switch, VC, online, what the account system means for long time Nintites or any of that good stuff, so of course people are going to have to scrape the small print of FAQs for a story.

Tl:DR; The written policy is a belt made of pig intestines and barbed wire, but you are forgetting the divine angel-hair and baby-breath braces of how they actually behave, hidden beneath their cloak of not-communicating-with-customerbase.

It sold over nearly 10,000 more units than the Switch and the 3DS sold nearly 90,000 more, but that is just a reflection of the Japanese gaming market and their preference for on the move gaming.

According to this Famitsu article, the Switch sold 330,637 units. That's more than the earlier reported number which was from some Twitter account.

Absolutely flocking raging, reserved a neon last week from Argos was told it would be available from Sunday to today, heard nothing back left chasing them today only to be told there was an error in their system and none available. This is a long shot but ideally need one this evening for a birthday present. I'm based in Dublin anyone know anywhere one might be available?
