    That Newstalk segment was wretched.
"I have a WiiU gathering dust, no games came on it though I did get Mario Kart 8, don't judge me" was the effort from one alleged tech guru on there who was about as knowledgeable about videogames as my Uncle Ed, whose last arcade game was a one armed bandit on a ferry to Holyhead.

Wait, wait, didn't he say he got a WiiU for MK8 "because I'm only human?"

    Or have I gone insane?

Nope I can't find anything. I can see Shrines way way off in the distance in inaccessible areas but nothing in the Great Plateau.

Christ I can't be using guides in whats pretty much the tutorial area.

Pin them using the sheika slate press (press down on R stick) when you see them from tower so you can see them on the map.. 3 are straight forward enough to get too, one you need to work your way around to it

No, you're right, I was paraphrasing a shockingly bad segment on the radio that I was listening to and, simultaneously, trying not to listen to.
Between sh1te like that and the right wing dingbat Hooky and turned into, I'm finding listening to Newstalk becoming a chore, and I've been tuning in since the start.

Do a walking lap of the region, you'll spot them.

4hrs into Zelda and not even a sniff of those
shrines the Old Man sent me to find.

Forgot how easily frustrating Zelda games can.

    :p:p:p

There's literally one right beneath the tower in a small swamp. Just look for the orange glows. Good luck when they start actually hiding the shrines behind waterfalls and ****!!

Tried playing Zelda today without the joycon holder. It's way more comfy to just use them like you would the Wiimote and nunchuk.

Seems like the switch is Nintendos best selling console ever in its first two days on sale in America.
Breath of the wild is also the best selling standalone launch title.
Maybe Gamestop US weren't spinning when they said it was a great lauch.

Seems to have been a much larger lauch there than the UK(where it still did double the wiiu number).

Interested to see how it did in Japan now.

I think when I get used to the button layout I'll be doing the same. Still have the PS4 "X" button wired in my brain. And "A" caused me all kinds of confusing for the first few hours.

Not sure it did all that great in Japan. Plenty of places it sold out but Japan has become so mobile focuses I'm not sure it will do well outside of a big monster hunter or dragon quest 11 launch.

It's the way it should! For some reason western developers changed the accept/cancel buttons on the PS1 and its caused confusion ever since. It's a pain the arse jumping from a western PS game to a Japanese one or else a Nintendo console.

313,700 week 1 sales in Japan according to this tweet

    https://twitter.com/ynakamura56/status/838933524321189888

That's not bad given it's March. Still early though, let's see how it sells through 2017, especially if Mario stays on track for Christmas

Picking up my Switch at lunchtime, couldn't be more excited. I know the afternoon will drag on massively now.

I've seen people talking about the screen on the switch not being the greatest, easy to mark, etc.

Any suggestions how to counteract that? I see argos selling a Hori Premium Nintendo Switch Screen Filter Protector. Anyone got one of these, are they worth it?

I'd probably avoid that one going by the thread above.

Anyone any idea where I'd pick up a link amiibo from super smash bros? I've searched online a few places and found one on Amazon for fifty quid.... That's nuts!

I threw caution to the wind and bought it on Saturday morning. Pretty much solely for Zelda. There's really not much else that appeals to me on the horizon, at least not in the next few months, so I figure i'll play it till i'm done with Zelda, and then probably sell it on.

Used it as a handheld this morning for the first time, and it's a fantastic piece of kit. Zelda looks amazing.

I bought the official Nintendo case that comes with a screen protector for €20.
Had no intention of using the screen protector until I read the reports about the dock scratching the screen, threw that 1 on anyway and so far so good...

Thanks. I imagine my Switch will be doing a fair bit of travelling as I'm up and down from Cork to Dublin a bit, so probably smart to pick up a travel case too.
    Cheers! :)

How you finding the screen protector?

Is it bubbling when the Switch gets hot in handheld mode?

Reports the Hori screen protector is doing that ...

Nope no issues at all and ive mainly been using it in handheld mode im only docking it at the moment to charge it. I think I may have read that it can get hot while playing in docked mode and can cause issues with the screen protector melting but ive only played on the tv once so cant comment too much on that.
There seems to be alot of "reports" going around aswell I wouldnt be so sure of how valid they all are tbh...

Gonna buy the Snakebyte travel case I think, not mad about the look of the Hori one also it has zero straps to hold it in the case.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,120 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

The official Nintendo one doesn't have any straps either, at least so far as I've noticed! I'd just opened it, had a quick look and applied the screen protector.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,561 ✭✭✭Rhyme

Just be sure to clean your screen before applying the screen protector. I didn't (having never applied one before) and it sealed in a load of tiny dust particles that came away with the protector when I tried to fix it, were impossible to remove and thus leaves me without a screen protector :/

Will have to see about getting one by itself as I'm not buying another case. Do Nintendo sell their screen protectors individually at all?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,491 ✭✭✭✭RobbingBandit

Did anyone buy that €31.99 set in Argos, carrier bag with a removable case, those strapless fake Pauls Boutique bags not looking so stupid now are they, why did I have to bury them, oh yeah because no one wanted 10,000 of them until now. :D

Just applied the screen protector I got with the case as I've noticed some smudge marks at the bottom from the dock, only one piece of dirt under it and its near the edge of the bezel.
