I know what a bigot is. I've seen it in this thread and elsewhere. I accept bigotry exists. I wasn't speaking about bigotry though, was strictly making a point on political correctness. EOTR said political correctness doesn't exist. I'm showing him/her that 96% of people on here say it does. Care to respond to that statistic end of the road?

Tbh I wasn't sure what your point was. I get you now. I voted yes. Obviously it exists or at least it exists in posters minds. Someone suggested ethnic cleansing here. I say it's bigotry and hate speech but the poster would suggest that it's pc gone mad. Now is there political correctness there or am I just stating a fact. It's all in the eye of the beholder.

If anyone was realistically calling for ethnic cleansing they're a fcuking scumbucket. No two ways about it.

I'm waiting for the announcement by the government for the establishment of a 600 acre reservation for the travelling community with a tax free status akin to what the Seminole Indians enjoy in the states .
    The latter justly deserved .

Technically the law sees them as both. Travellers are protected under racism laws now. I'm sure that will open up a whole new debate because most people think you have to be a different race to the person you are being racist to. If this were the case English couldn't be racist towards Irish but obviously they can and we are protected in the UK under racism law

...and nobody did. It was (a possibly poor taste) joke. But a joke nonetheless. Certain posters simply chose to interpret it literally for the purposes of furthering their spurious arguments in favour of our anti-social, tax avoiding, social welfare scamming etc. etc. friends.

I've seen posters on this forum suggest that travellers should be rounded up, culled, sterilised, placed on an island (that was a popular one for a while), forced to assimilate, placed on a reservation (a recent one, top marks for originality) and so on and on and on.

I guess in that context, it's hard to spot irony in the latest "let's brutalise an entire people" suggestion. Haven't seen the poster himself argue that it was just a bit of banter, has he argued this point in the disputes forum or where did you see it?

when you see the way the native american reservations are organised and run in America, I wouldn't wish that on any group of people.

I have had many dealings with travellers over the years up here, Most of them not good, But I can't see why the big scream here is all about ? And some of the remarks are just shameful .

They have been classed as an ethnic group, that's it, they have not been given immunity ,It's up to Goverment & law enforcement to make sure there obeying the law of the land and if above are not doing that then the question should be asked why not.

As for the crimes they commit, Most of the crime committed in this country is not from travellers, sure aren't our jails filled with the same people from the same areas years after years,

Good luck to them I say and hope it improves there responsibility and respect they have for the rest of us, as it's not to long ago that we as a country had not that great of a reputation either when across the water there, that has changed over the last few years so hoping that travellers can do to.

This post is so full of delusion....where do i even start. You obviously have no experience of travellers whatsoever. You think they are just going to clean up their act just like that because this box has been ticked? they already have a great deal of immunity as it is and this further crystalises it. I heard of a story in Cork where a traveller leaped the counter in the social welfare office to attack a woman and her boss done a martial arts move to restrain him and was subject.to an investigation over it.

Not all, but far too many of these people are just bad bad news. They have a problem within their community and before they ask for rights they need to address the issues

The likes of Enda Kenny and his cabinet love to be seeing making these cheap PR gestures for the media but they would live no where near a halting site. Big Phil Hogan even tried to stop travellers from moving into a site in Kilkenny

End of the road would you mind commenting on the thread's finding (linked above) that says 96% of people say that political correctness does exist?

You've commented and thanked posts since, including one of mine, so I'm sure you've seen me ask you? I'd really like to get your take on that 96% figure. You do go against the grain quite a bit and sometimes I find myself respecting your opinions and I do agree with some of them. However I feel you avoid hard hitting questions at times. Poster to poster I'm asking you to engage here on this question.

how is the post "full of delusian" and how doesn't he have experience of travelers? because his experiences aren't the same as yours and he doesn't agree with you? that's not "delusian" nor does it prove he doesn't have experiences of travelers, i'm afraid. he says he does, you won't be able to prove otherwise, therefore he has experiences of travelers until proven otherwise. travelers do not have "immunity" from anything. if the authorities aren't enforcing breaches of the law by travelers that is down to simple failure and lack of resources. nothing more. the boss at this wellfare office was investigated as that is the course of action followed in a situation where a worker would restrain someone .

if my opinion is supposibly going against the grain so be it. my opinion is what you will get, take it or leave it. i believe people seem to believe political correctness exists but it really doesn't. it's in people's imaginations.

I'll take it. Trust me I'd rather have someone give me their honest opinion over a yes man anyday. As for going against the grain, I can respect that too. Thank you for answering. I've no problem with that being a belief of yours. I can accept that a lot easier than a cold hard fact-like statement of "PC doesn't exist".

I watched back different statements by Tds in the Dail last night on recognizing Traveller Ethnicity, the most ludicrous came from Mick Wallace I thought, " Harmful laws which discriminate against Travelers such as the trespass act should be repealed- Mick Wallace " as to having a law against Trespassing onto someones land or someones private property is somehow " Discrimination " is beyond me, Im at a loss at to how people voted for this guy given he is this PC .

Mick Wallace got voted in because he is a good man who cares deeply for the people. he is a man of the people and isn't pc as pc doesn't exist. i disagree with him on repealing the trespass laws.

mick wallace is a fraudster and a crook , i also disagree with repealing trespass law , which is actually part of the public order act or theft act ,

why would it benefit travellers to repeal these laws ????

    FG/FF/Lab: Travelers are great.

FG/FF/Lab: We don't actually like you as you know we have always supported the apartheid style living arrangements that keep "you" away from "us" but enjoy our PR stunt.

They'll always be tinkers to me.

And old Wallace is quite the T(ar)D.

    Wallace is a gobshte
There are e loads of nice travellers, they are tough people but they have a code and you can respect them
The criminal elements of the travellers are easier identifyed than the not travellers but both are dangerous
Assuming all travellers are the same is like assuming all people from east Dublin are the same you will assume a like of guilty people
But you will also assume a lot of innocent people

This is not something that happened in the last few day. I heard of this about 8 years ago. Mary White for the Green party brought it up. It would mean they would be recognised culturally as a minority. They would have special protections. They would have places reserved for them in the Police, Judicary civil service and defence forces and would have political representation like a TD or Senator.

This was pushed for by the UN and was many years in the making. I guarantee while this was going on .... Dennis OBrien was stealing the sprinkles out of your 99's. This is just a side show while some bigger is going on.

You have no personal experience...I, personally, heard of a story from Cork...

It's been in place for 20 years now in NI.

How many travellers in the judiciary and politics up there? Are they in the majority yet?

Or could this be yet even more hysteria?

Incidentally what happened to the poster who said they took over the BBC?
