The other day I ended up pulling out my old spindle of CD-Rs and burning some music CDs for the car. I've not done that in years.

I have been doing that alot over the past couple of years.

So the office radio has been turned from Today FM (to 2FM for now anyway). It has been on Today FM for as long as I have been here ..

I listen to Chris Moyles in the morning, but have completely changed to podcasts for all my other driving time. Literally don't turn on the FM radio anymore.

If I have a passenger, the FM radio will be on for a short journey, or a streamed playlist for a long journey.

As a radio enthusiast, that is worrying, as if I have taken these measures, surely the average Joe has done it long ago.

Unfortunately nobody in their right mind would invest in Radio/Media in general ATM unless they had some sort of ulterior motive. The profits are too low compared to other investment opportunities.

Best to just switch off and move to spotify/podcasts/cds like you seem to be doing.

Yeah I've switched to Podcasts and Spotify. The only show I now listen to on the radio is Dermot & Dave.

I've also started listening to audiobooks and Spotify with my 2 kids in the car. They'll have a completely different experience of radio than I did as a kid.

I don't bother listening at all now during the day.

Disagree with this point. the average Joe doesn't take as much notice and will put on the radio regardless of who is on. And I would imagine it is the likes of the average Joe where Today FM will get their figures from.

What the hell has happened to Today FM? Ian Dempsey is ok but after that it's just awful! Dermot and Dave and Fergal Darcy were already cr*p but Al Porter is a whole other level of bad. Has a radio station ever declined so quickly before? It's amazing how poor it's gone so suddenly. Like one day it was fine and the next they just decided to destroy it for no reason. What happened?

its the new "youth audience" they are aiming for. Whoever thinks this will save them is mad. No wonder people listen to spotify and everything else these days..

Lads, could anyone direct me to where I could download shows in the new app. I'm abroad and need to download the shows to listen back.

Also, I've only briefly opened the new app given the above and it's 1) full of nonsense and 2) seems to be overheating my phone. So if I do figure out how to download the shows I may not even be able to make use of it.

Not sure if you won it but if you did I hope you had better luck than I did. Entered a competition for a CD on Paul McLoone, heard my name read out was rang by Today FM but it never arrived. I have given up hopes of ever receiving it but one time I rang to inquire about it the lady said a strange thing "It must be one of those that went missing, we have had a few people who never got their CDs". A strange thing to say which makes me think there are more people out there who never received their prize from Today FM!!

Slightly off main thread topic but seeing as we're on about Today FM prize problems I had a strange one last year.

They were running a comp with Harvey Norman and Bose on Dermot and Dave, the daily prize was two Bose Soundtouch Speakers and on Friday the 5 daily winners went into a draw for the main prize of a Bose Soundtouch 20 speaker and a €1000 Voucher for the Harvey Norman electrical department.

Anyway I was lucky enough to be one of the daily winners and to top it off I also won the overall prize.

The following week I received the call from Harvey Norman to organise delivery of my Prize and they asked me what colour I wanted my Soundtouch 20 in so I told them and there was no mention of my daily prize of my two Soundtouch 10 speakers.
So I asked the lady and she said she only had details of the 20 for me and to contact Today FM.
So I contacted Today FM and it was Maria the shows producer that spoke to me, now let me just point out here that I was never confrontational or rude because I already knew how lucky I was to have won anyway so Maria said to me that the Friday prize was an upgrade to a Soundtouch 20 so I didn't get the two Soundtouch 10's so I pointed out to her that the way the quiz was advertised all week led me to believe you got to keep your daily prize and on top of that the Overall winner got the Soundtouch 20 and the voucher.

As I said I didn't want to get too pushy and didn't want to seem greedy but they advertised the Soundtouch system all week about having a Speaker in every room so it made no sense to take two speakers off the prize, I also pointed out to her that it wasn't really an upgrade as two Soundtouch 10s cost more that one Soundtouch 20s so they let me choose to Keep the two 10s and forego the 20.

These competitions are a regular thing on Ian Dempsey and D&D and from my memory the daily prize has never been taken back off someone.

The best example I can come up with is the recent 6 nations Competition they had where the daily winners won tickets to Ireland V France in Dublin and the overall winner won the trip to Rome to watch Italy V Ireland, if my situation were to be implemented here it would mean the overall winner would have their Ireland V France tickets taken back.

Anyway that was my issue with Today Fm competitions and before anyone comes on and calls me greedy or ungrateful, I never was and I stated this to Maria when I rang on numerous occasions and it was the reason I didn't push the point.

I've seen loads of cases of the daily prizes being dropped for the main prize before; it allows them to get more from a prize budget basically. Across multiple stations.

would seem to be a normal thing for most of their prizes. They don't advertise it very well though. The comp had 4 prizes of soundtouch 10 & 1 of soundtouch 20. 5 in total.

I would agree that is noramlly an upgrade but they need to mention that more often !

Is the station really 20 years old on Paddy's Day? Here's the latest video:

Normally when you leave your teenage years you begin to know who you are. Today FM is going the other way. Was listening to music all day today and didn't turn on Today FM once, it feels like I've lost a friend.

Al Porter has to have one of the most punchable smiles/faces in the history of mankind. I've never actually saw him on TV or heard him on radio but I despise the bastard.

Thank you. I'm glad someone agrees with me. I was going to comment on it, but wasn't sure how to put it across.
