Matt Coopers show has become so depressing. Its just a drag to listen to these days.

Both Cooper and Dempsey while radio heavyweights and very good at what they do are both over 50 and by extension way too old for the new young image Today Fm are trying to sell. Even Dermot and Dave are the wrong side of 40 which jars with the new brand and playlist. You'd have to include Paul Mcloone in that category as well.

Today fm are licensed by the bai to be a "National Broad format service" not a youth service

    I agree.

With all of the radical changes, there are certain areas that now look seriousness out of place such as the last word and the business show.

Tell that to the program directors then.

    Who should go so why
Only reason I have it on is its background noise during the day

But you have to admit Today Fm are basically a youth station now, their licence means very little. Sure 98fm have a licence for 20-44 year old based on their classic hits format, but today none of their music would appeal to the over 35s

Rather than who should go, it's an attitude change that's needed. I rarely listen anymore as I have no interest in the playlist, having been an avid listener previously. Today FM was my go to station from early 20s, now in my early 30s I feel I have no station. Loved D&D at lunchtime, have briefly listened to some of their podcasts but have no interest in them doing relatively serious interviews. My lack of interest in the Porter's TV appearances have carried through to his radio show. D'arcy, don't get me started.

Really loved dermot and Dave don't mind al porter has an easy way about him
What's wrong with Darcy I'm finished work by three so have the radio off

Al Porter is summing up everything wrong with Today FM. A pure celebrity appointment and an attempt to be 'edgy'...sh1te music, sh1te faux banter, and just generally sh1te! Far from Today FM turning the tide of declines I think they will erode listenership further with the amount of people 25 and up who will turn off.

I think because the rest of the day is so depressing, from D & D, Porter, Darcy - by the time i get to Matt Cooper, I just cant take anymore!

I sorted the Al Porter problem this morning, downloaded a Linkin Park album and had something interesting to listen to!

My god, Al Porter must be terrible altogether if Linkin Park are better than him :p

Having a Vuvuzela blown into your ear would be more enjoyable than porter or d'Arcy at this stage

The last word was much better tonight with Gavin Reilly hosting, fed up of Cooper and his anti Trump agenda

Cooper and his anti Trump agenda

I would argue that it's hard to be objective with trump when he's obviously the idiots president.

As Cooper said, why wouldn't we keep talking about him when he's the gift that just keeps giving.

Heard Al Porter at lunchtime today for the first time.

It was like a cringey uncle performing "stand up" for the family at xmas.

Heard bits here and there of about 5 shows since he started, I always think of students setting up a radio station and trying to be funny for their friends only rather than working to make a good show across the board when I hear him...

Today fm used to be content driven, now it's about "personalities", even if you didn't like the presenter you had content that you could hook into.
The station had a cohesive voice and this has been thrown out to try and get a different demographic, what was wrong with the demo they had?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 494 ✭✭Duggie2012

jeez normally i don't mind hector but hes getting on my nerves filling in for Ian. stop throwing in bits of spanish or portugese, so annoying. maybe its just me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,850 ✭✭✭ILikeBoats

I'll listen to Ian and D&D and then it's podcasts after that. Very disappointing having listened all day for past 10 years

It's no wonder 2fm give him the axe, this station will be 20 years old on 17/03/17 the last 19 years have been brilliant, this year it's gone to pot

I can only assume that someone somewhere crunched numbers and decided that people in their 30s onwards aren't a lucrative demographic. They're the ones most likely to have large mortgages, childcare costs, ageing parents and less disposable income than the shiny twentysomethings.

Dempsey and his constant Bowie references means i dont tune in before 09:00 (hector when filling in wouldnt do much to change that)

    D&D ... love their show

Cant be doing with the next few hours till Matt Cooper.

Once i get home i turn off.

    Fairly dire selection imho

I realised there towards the end of Hector that I was getting really excited for Ed's Songs of Praise and I'm not dissapointed! :)

Been a loyal listener of Ed's weekend show back since it was on a Saturday night around 4 or so years ago. Never disappoints.

Right...it may just be because Al Porter is so terrible but I am finding Fergal Darcy to be more bearable lately...and he is playing better music than the rest...certainly today by a long shot.

The other day I ended up pulling out my old spindle of CD-Rs and burning some music CDs for the car. I've not done that in years.
