    I knew a girl called Penny years ago, who I always assumed was really Penelope. Nope, Penny was on her birth cert from the 1970s, so it's not necessarily a new thing.

    Does it not seem weird, when you think about it, that if you want to call someone Freddie, you'd put a different name on the birth cert?

    Same as Ollie or Bobby I suppose these days. My own cousin named his kid Jimmy. That's the child's actual name like. He's in prison now.
