I think it was just one derogatory term in there, I'm sure "eejits" would work just as well.
But I think we got the point of what you were saying and that you weren't deliberately trying to insult a certain group and their families.

Last thing I would want to do is upset anyone with a figure of speech, and apologies if I offended anyone...

I changed it to "great unwashed" for what it's worth... :)

Am I the only one who won't look at unboxing videos, UI, Zelda gameplay because I really want to be surprised by it all?

    Nope. Same here.

Despite my severe reservations and frustrations at some of Nintendo's strategies, I'm gonna wish all you crazy fan......s of Ninty well in these anxious days ahead :P

I hope the Switch absolutely cleans up and I can pick one up in a year or two with a vast catalogue of classics!

Merry switchmas you filthy animals. Gonna start severely glancing at this to avoid any spur of the moment shiny new thing splurges during hypeseasonmaximus!

It wasn't that word. I just have a lot of respect for people who queue up for something that they really want to get their hands on (apart from Garth Brooks fans).

Admit it Tipsy, you were one of the great unwashed I referred to who didn't pre book a PS4 and camped out all night on a deckchair outside Tesco until 7am waiting on one.... :P

I hope you pre ordered your Switch... ;)

Anyone know if Gamestop are doing a midnight opening?

I ordered in Swords myself so I'm not sure if that would open at midnight as it is based in a shopping centre.

    Swords isn't doing one.

From the creator of TowerFall, Celeste is coming to the Switch at some point this year.

Returning to the storage issue, unless you plan on never downloading any games for the Switch and are only using game cards, buying a microSDXC card is going to be an essential purchase. Right now, you can get 64GB cards for very reasonable prices (less than $30) but if you want a big storage boost, expect the cost to jump into the hundreds of dollars. Although Nintendo has stated that the Switch supports up to 2TB microSDXC cards, they aren’t on the market yet and the largest available card right now gives you 256GB of storage, but with a price upwards of $150.

A 128gb Micro SD is $40, but nope, let's not look at the fact that 256gb cards are insanely overpriced in comparison to other storage sizes, we're going to purposely quote the mad expensive ones. Completely ignoring the fact that you can double the storage they quoted for $10 more.

Jesus like, every other point he makes in sound, most of your own complaints come down to personal preferences, but some of this stuff is ridiculous.

I ran into it years ago, and felt like a fool because I'm working in the field of disability for nearly 30 years!
I used that term for a while until a friend of my better half told me her brother had cerebral palsy and it was very offensive.
Big apology and never used the word again.
    Lesson learned

Honestly Sligeach, if you set out to find articles on how expensive the Switch is you'll find it, and vice versa.
Truth is, as an initial outlay, all you need is a Switch starter set for €330 and a copy of Zelda BotW.
Nothing else is required, as an initial outlay.
A pro controller might seem "essential" but without trying the standard pad it's impossible to say, so it's not necessary.
If you want to spend your time and money downloading then your games then you'll need an expansion via SD but you don't have to jump for the priciest biggest card.
Heck, you can just pick up a cheap 64 GB to start with and expand later to a bigger one.

I will agree that the Pro Controller has no business being as expensive as it is and I'm hoping the 3rd party manufacturers will bring alternatives to market that will be a lot cheaper.

I didn't set out to find anything. Checked the latest news and that was right there at the top of the page. I knew someone would bite. Posted a positive article yesterday evening, nobody had anything to say, post a negative article and people just can't let it be. They have to find fault with it.

The Joy-cons don't have a proper d-pad, so it will be essential for certain games. And the Pro Controller looks more comfortable. Another thing, which I haven't heard anyone talk about is what's the HD rumble like when the Joy-cons are in the grip? Surely the HD Rumble is nerfed?

Buying a 64GB Micro SD memory card and then a larger one at a future date works out more expensive. The amount of different kinds and sizes of memory cards I have sitting around me here is unreal. When I buy a card, I'll buy one large card, no need for swapping then either. They'll be cheaper when I buy the Switch eventually, hopefully. Bought a 250GB HDD for the Wii U way back when. Sorted, don't need to worry about running out of space, even if I have it half-full now. I cursed Nintendo about that too at the time.

    Edit:

    :

Is there a particular reason, that when you post a negative article you fill the thread with 6-7 paragraphs of stuff, so that anyone tracking the thread has to scroll through one or two full screens of whatever you're quoting. But your positive one, was just a link dump. Still haven't clicked it, probably won't. Can you post the contents on thread to make them a bit more accessible like you do with the negative articles?

Although the tone of that article was clearly someone being negative or the sake of being negative, I have to agree that the extra joy-con sets are IMO expensive. I remember when I first got the Wii having to fork out for extra remotes so the whole family could play Wii Sports. At their current price point*, I don't see myself doing the same with the Switch, which is a shame.

*i accept there is a possibility that the price will come down over time

That's not fair. That's just how it worked out there. Sometimes I'm busy and can't post it all or it may be too long or it's late and I'm tired. There was that one I posted a few days ago where it was so long and full of images the site asked me if I was a robot. Maybe it's a safeguard against spamming. I've embedded many full positive articles here before. That last article was easy, it was just a bolded headline with a relatively short body of text.

It's fine Sligeach, I've no problems with the articles you have posted that have a negative spin, it generates debate and discussion. And, to give you your due, I'm seeing more positive articles too and you've done a bang up job with the BotW thread.

But, the D pad on the Joycon, I've no idea what they are going to be like, they look sh1te but, if anyone can make that thing work it's the company that invented them and have yet to fail to deliver one that works well.

I know we're not exactly spoilt with options for a Dublin launch but what do we think is the best place to hang out and meet fellow gaming/Nintendo enthusiasts for the launch?
My local Gamestop store aren't doing a midnight launch so I'm going to make my way to town. My pre-order is locked to Gamestop Newbridge so I'll just try to be early in the queue and get one of the ones put away for people who show up .. well that's the plan.

    https://www.meetup.com/Nintendo-Switch-Dublin-Meetup/

I'd be careful about that my local made those extra ones available as extra preorders and they were snapped up within an hour or two of it going up on facebook

so maybe give them a Ring beforehand and check i'd hate to queue up only to find out that there wasn't even a chance

Bit sh!t that they've put the ones that were meant to be for walk-ins on pre-order instead.

Anyone going to the Smyth's Carrickmines midnight opening? Hoping it's going to be a arrive at 23:45, sit in the car until 00:01 and then rock in and part with money :).

It's a bit silly considering I very much doubt every Switch that was preordered will be collected on Day 1 or 2. I also would have thought that it would be smart business practice to keep half a dozen or so consoles for the non preorderers but this is GS we are talking about.

they did announce it on the store's facebook page which isn't so bad

I actually think queueing up in the hope of getting one of the unknown about available is worse

imagine being behind the last guy to pick up the "spare" units after waiting in the rain for a few hours

Fair enough, for the second time, I apologize for being bitchy towards you. The last line was uncalled for.

I don't have a problem with anything you post, it's not my place to tell you anyways. When you said people can't resist jumping on the negatives, my first thought was that you're, not quite shoving them down our throats but they seem to be more 'accessible' going through the thread. As you say, it's how it worked out but that was obviously the comparison that would have leapt out at me.

You've quoted me, so there's no point editing.

Anyways, I try not to have a go and keep it objective but it was too contradictory to stay quiet, for me anyways.

You're looking for a way to justify a launch Switch to yourself aren't you? There's no way you'd keep up so up to date if you were set on waiting a year to buy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,820 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Remember too that Gamestop said that you need to pre order any games that you want from them on launch day as they won't have games on the shelves. Sounds strange.

GameStop, confounding the needs and wishes of gamers for decades!
    Game...Stop!

I mean, if they offered value and the products we wanted when we wanted them, wouldn't they be called GameGo?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,397 ✭✭✭✭Digital Solitude

Nintendo and GameStop should form a partnership.

They'd just make daft marketing decisions that confuse everyone and make no sense but still make a hat of money.

Hey now, Nintendo don't own the exclusive rights to dumb ideas!
Remember Knack, the PS4 launch game?
The godawful sky high price of the PS3 on release, and it being justified by Sony because the system was so exclusive?
The whole Xbox One/ have to have a game unpaired to your system so you could sell it on, and being charged a price for the privilege?
    32X?
    M2?
    CDi?
The original Wonderswan screen? (Blurry as fcuk)
The Gameboy Color screen (you had to sit on the planet Mercury at midday to see it properly)

    Friends forever?

I have my opinions and no qualms about sharing them but I don't want to enter dickhead territory, which I felt I was approaching.
