Agreed and it isn't a difficult process to make a complaint. Same with Sue and red velvet

The only declaration of something bring paid for or being sponsored in Fairy's case that I recall are the Cruise last year and some boob tape where she included #sp

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,089 ✭✭✭✭LizT

I think some bloggers are just really lax when it comes to snapchat because they know the snaps will be gone in 24 hours so nothing can be said to them by ASAI.

Make up fairy had snaps up today about needing clothes for Dubai and asked companies to get in touch with her if they had suitable items. No doubt she'll be sent a load of stuff free of charge and it will be all over her story without #ad

Actually think that's so pathetic to ask for clothes. #begging!! She possibly did the same for the cruise last year. Not sure if any of you noticed but all her outfits matched the decor of various restaurants or bars or areas of the ship. It looked like all the outfits were pre-planned so possibly sponsored too maybe?

Nail on the head there. Its gone in 24 hours so they think they can get away with it. Some are really lax on other social media but snapchat is definitely the worst.
Rosemary is the only one i follow that actually bothers to do it on every relevant snap or use #affiliate.

You would swear some of the regular offenders never make any money.....

I actually don't think Lauren is by any means the worst offender in the blogging world. She nearly always uses #ad #sp or #spon for all posts whether it's for Penneys, Proper Corn or a stay at the Gibson. Regarding her regular trips away, I'm not sure. But her trips, if suspected of being paid.or sponsored, rise no more suspicion than Sue's trips or as she likes to say #suetravels. In my opinion, lots of her trips look sponsored and /or paid for but never a mention of it. I think Love Lauren is one of the more transparent bloggers, maybe not everyone's cuppa tea, but has been declaring ada and sponsored items for a long time before this thread even got going.

I unfollowed her, like I'm not really sure what kind of blogger she is meant to be. I thought she was fashion but she does nothing other than show snaps of her lovely weekends away and what a great life she has. Good for her if she's making a career out of it but I don't know how people sit down and watch this everyday on their phones.

I also watched some of Graces snaps yesterday when she was telling people having a baby is easy and to go for it. There are young teenagers following her who may be easily influenced by her. She should think before she speaks.

That was exactly the point in the other thread.  There's so many things bloggers say that are irresponsible.  It's like they hit a point of losing common sense.

Don't you just know that they'll turn up on Depop. Did we ever figure out of she should be profiting from these gifted items? As for her latest posts......

Completely agree about Grace - such a flippant comment about having a baby. It's not a breeze and it hasn't been a breeze for her as we know from numerous occasions when she has snap-chatted herself in tears about her motherhood journey. Also the financial side of having a baby that she may or may not realise fully - I assume a lot of the baby products she has have been gifted but due to her lack of transparency we will never know 🙈 I just hope her younger followers don't act on her advice to 'just go for it'

Irresponsible behaviour from her...how is she getting away with it is beyond me....and as for her snap the other day saying she was all set to go to the gym..but then had a pain in her tummy and ended up in bed taking a motilium but then a ffew hours later is putting on makeup and heading out for dinner... She is so inconsistent with the gym...i really hope they havnt collaborated with her on this...then comes out with the best line yet"im doing slimming world"
She is not commiting to anything lately

I thought it was quite irresponsible of her to say that. Like I get that maybe she was saying it from a good place, but the regular Joe soaps that work 9-5's aren't gifted items left right and centre, aren't recieving cash for mentioning a few things on snapchat. Most have mortgages, or renting and have long hours in work.
She is very lucky that she can leave her baby with her Mam when she's doing all these press events or she has an easy enough 'job' to be able to bring her daughter everywhere with her.

Not everyone can get free stuff from Bella Baby or get sponsored by formula companies.

Regardless at all that. This isn't a dig at her at all btw, it's just she makes such flippant and irresponsible comments (skinny fit tea for example) not everyone has a good pregnancy or a good stable home life. Any way that's my 2 cents.

I will say, MUF begging for clothes for Dubai in return for her posting the details on the blog?! How is she getting away with that

I know! Isn't it desperate? Like, it actaully is begging, albeit in an indirect way. And then won't even declare it any way probably and sell the clothes on for full profit possibly.

If she gets stuff for free and mentions it, is it regarded as an ad? As she's advertising the clothes/boutiques in return for free items? Hopefully she will disclose.

With regards to indirectly begging for items, I don't think Fairy is the only one doing that? Sometimes Su will put out a request for e.g. does anyone know of someone who could do a blow dry whilst she's at one of her workshops, or does anyone know of a hotel in Belfast suitable for holding a workshop. To me, that always screams of code for - I don't so much want a recommendation but moreso the said item/service for free. If achieved for free or at a discount and followed by positive reviews, there certainly isn't an declarations of #ad/#sp/#spon in the past.

I've definitely seen it happen across all the top bloggers. Personally I find it disingenuous and makes me trust them less when they do mention prouducts

Well she is saying that they will feature in her blog so id say it will be a ad or sponsered in some way!

Very interesting couple of comments here.

Firstly I think the advertising rules for bloggers should be changed and everything they advertise/promote/review should be considered an ADVERT. If they pay for it out of their own pocket, they can use the #bought to show they treated themselves! Whether cash exchanged hands or not seems to be irrelevant; if a person receives a gift and then mentions/shows/brags about this gift then this is surely considered an advert. I really think the ASAI need to assess their guidelines/rules and evaluate if they're corresponding with the changing nature of advertising.

Secondly Sue spending €60/€70 (she wasn't sure!!!!!) on a PLANNER?! Yet she had the despatch note in front of her - would the cost not have been stated on that?!?

Finally MakeUpF gets sent clothes and then sells them on depop? Do I understand that corectly? If so, this is so so wrong.

I really really doubt that these bloggers are adhering correctly to revenue standards also and wouldn't we all have the money to spend €1000 on a handbag if we didn't have to buy makeup or for hairdressers etc? They certainly seem to have a fine time of it - visiting hairdressers regularly for blowdries, curls, hair extensions and getting their talons done.

And please, stop promoting your babies. One or two snaps is cute. Every second snap - the poor babas!

TL:DR Advertising standards should be changed so that all snaps should be considered an advert unless stated otherwise, because it's clearly not working the other way around. (No time for #ad yet time to apply those dratted filters????!!!!!)

Agreed. And personally I find it to be pathetic behaviour. People give out about people begging on the streets in this country and yet the bloggers can do so in an (not so) indirect way and it be ok? It's shameful behaviour and stinks of desparation. If you're looking for something of this manner, at least have the decency to be honest and say so upfront rather than pretend to look for 'recommendations'. And if getting for free in return for a postive review, then declare this.

That's an interesting point about selling on items you got for free...

I know there was an article here a while back about bloggers having to pay tax on free items they're sent possibly being introduced soon. I don't think bloggers should have to pay taxes on items sent because they're BIK because they obviously can't control what they get sent. But if someone is asking to be sent free stuff, uses it and then sells it on for it's retail value or close to it, that has to be a bit dodgy?

I've never really heard of bloggers selling on free samples, I presumed most of them just did giveaways or gave the stuff to friends and family.
