Just thought I would post a link in here if anyone might be interested

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/bmw-3-series-1-9-for-sale/14639068

BMW 3 Series. Taxed until the end of April, It failed the NCT for Ball Joints - Offside/Front worn so this needs to be addressed before been put through again. I got a quote of 160 including labour for this and then it should be fine for the NCT.

I purchased the car 6 months ago as a second car for myself but I am now driving long distances for work so I bought a diesel this week for myself, it's a lovely car to drive, only issue is the one above that needs to be fixed. I kept her very clean.

If anyone is interested, send me a PM. Open to offers.

Lads, Why are those Mondeos so cheap now? If you look through any classifieds there are loads of them for a couple of hundred euros. They are a pretty decent car and many for sale are very clean looking..

The one above could have many expensive issues such as injectors and dmf etc.

    As above extremely informative ad....

Fuel pumps give trouble in them especially at the age most of them are at now.

    Ok one for the Fixerupper

    02 Golf GTTDI 170BHP
    nct out
    tax out
dual Fly wheel needs fixing to a single flywheel, about 300-400 I think to change, cheaper if you do yourself.
Front Discs need changing but he has parts already... saving you @100 if you can DIY.

    New brake pads in back
Timing Belt...DONE, so they say. (Did some of these GT models come with Timing Chain) or am I dreaming?

But it looks in great shape. leather seats etc...
    1000 gets you 170 bhp.

Fair to say it would only really offer value to someone prepared to break it up though?

I say that moreso on the basis of it potentially being an insurance nightmare more than anything given the year and the model. Then when it comes to the part where they ask you are there any modifications and you mention its being remapped to 170bhp (not a VW nut but pretty sure these GT TDI models did not come in 170bhp, rather 150bhp) I can't see many of them wanting to speak to you much further......

For those that have the space and are willing to break I'm sure the likes of those leather recaro bucket seats; GTI tails lamps; the rims etc. are worth a small fortune.

Because you are obliged to do so when they ask you if there are any modifications. You might be grand but then again you might find yourself in some hot water in the unfortunate event that there is an accident.....

Because it says 170 bhp in the ad? No?

It very well may be a case along the same vein as "Ignorantia juris non excusat"

    More like 130 bhp... (https://www.cartell.ie/ssl/servlet/beginStarLookup?registration=02lk6024)

In that case you're not braking the law - which this phrase relates to. In this case you cannot be accused of withholding a fact that you did not know about. Before reading posts here, I would never suspect that it is remapped.

But were told in the ad its 170 bhp. I can only assume it was remapped for this power increase. As I previously mentioned my knowledge of VW's is not super. I thought the GT TDI came with 150bhp only stock but as ever am open to correction.

Very much disagree. The very essence of the phrase means just because you are ignorant of some aspect of law it does not in any way excuse you in any from the repercussions of breaking that aspect of the law.

I was using the phrase metaphorically more than anything but I'll put it another way.... I wouldn't like to get into a situation of having an accident which is my fault when driving that car where I answered no to that question "any modifications?" when taking out insurance or even declared along the lines of "none that I'm aware of".....not sure this would be an acceptable answer. Either way I would strongly suggest that it falls back on you. The way insurance has gone in recent years I'd personally much rather do things by the book.

    Gt tdi's were first 110bhp
Then when pd came along they were either 115bhp 130bhp or 150bhp some 150bhp tdi's were badged gti from factory also.

Insurers do not look for mapped ecu's
They do however look for tuning boxes.

    130bhp tdi's can be mapped to 170-180bhp
    150bhp tdi's can go to 200bhp

The golf in question isn't worth €1000

It's worth well over 1000 quid broke. Leather interior ensures that.

Also GT TDI was for the vast majority of cars out there only a marketing scam and not what VW was selling.

It might be worth a touch over 1k broke but the market for mk4 tdi bits is slowing and the money comes in dribs and drabs. The arl 150bhp tdi's are worth more to break due to the bigger turbo, fmic, bigger injectors etc.

Breaking and fixing up are two very different things though. Hence why as a fixer upper it's not worth 1k.

Thats nearly the guts of 3k there parted out, and ive missed out on a good few things there :)

But I get where you're coming from the mark iv is a dying breed, and a costly one at that cos of the insurance AND tax.
Maybe it would be better just to buy it, fix it, and then garage it for 10 years......
then enjoy the classic insurance and looks from people as there will be f all mark iv around. Esp with 170bhp!!

€500 for a 130bhp PD? Are you having a laugh?

€300 for a steering wheel and €300 for a 5 door leather interior? €150 for rough S8 replica wheels with no caps? Your prices are WAY off the mark, like I mean totally on a different planet to realistic pricing

With the flywheel gone and being a 5 door with no test, that is a €500 car

you may have missed this part...

Ok you write out the list of everything that can be parted out from a golf Mk iv with the prices, and we'll see how much it is worth in parts.

There hundreds of Mk4s for breaking in the country. There is very little demand for stuff and it is worth practically nothing. You would have to put all the work in of stripping the car and be left with a mess and even on a car which parts are in demand for, there is always a lot of crap left over.

Trust me I've broken enough stuff over the years! A Mk4 TDI is not worth breaking unless you can get the price of the full car for the engine alone.

The interior, and the engine/turbo/gearbox will get you €1000 alone, guaranteed. Everything after that is gravy.

Jesus lads I don't know where you're buying or selling parts, but those prices are severely inflated!

A 130bhp PD engine is worth 2-300, a 6 speed box is worth 1-150, the turbo is worth about 100 and the interior 150-200.

Good condition leather armrests are making €150 on it's own.
