I have to say that I am gonna miss Muireann - and I do hope that they bring her back soon...maybe she could replace Hector? I avoid TodayFM like the plague when he is on! So yeh bring back Muireann!

I think that would be a great idea, replace hector with Muireann, i have to say i've really enjoyed Muireann at lunchtime over the past few weeks and i'm going to miss listening to her, shes a solid option, a good professional presenter, maybe a little bit over enthusiastic at times but shes easy to listen to and shes great on the 6 o clock show with foley, its a puty she couldnt have got the lunchtime gig full time

I reckon she will take the lunch time slot when Al gets sick of it. The fact that Lenny is also working on the new lunchtime show makes her in my opinion the favorite to cover when Als off doing other things.. infact she's probably the go to swing jock now at Today fm

Yeh I can't imagine with other work commitments that Al will last longer than a year. Plus I'd say she is the stand in DJ that will be called on when Al is "sick" or has something more important to do.

What is it lately with comedians becoming djs/presenters? PJ, Neil and now Al!

its a steady gig away from the now crowded comedy circuit

She's been everywhere for a good while. I mean just going on her Snapchat and today Fm's and 98fms one she is never out of those stations. I mean Saturday at six is grand but did she say that it's a permanent slot for her ?

I'd hope she gets a permanent show on today fm and stops bouncing around from station to station as a fill in. She's too good a presenter for that being perfectly honest.

Didn't Muireann do the 6-9 gig on a Saturday before? Or, was that one of the slots that replaced Friday Night 80's? I will miss her in the afternoons now. She was great to listen to. I don't think my colleagues are too interested in Al Porter starting. This morning, the station had been changed to, what I think, was Spirit FM. Though, I can't see that lasting in the office!

Personally Muireann is everything I want in a radio presenter. Easy to listen to, inoffensive, and able to get from a to b without making a slot all about her or being overly obnoxious, but she still manages to be very personable and warm. I don't feel the hours going when I'm listening to her and that can't be said for those in slots before her or after her. I enjoyed listening to her over the weeks, her Saturday slot is a show I won't be tuning into just because I'd never listen to the radio at that time but hopefully she'll be back at a more mainstream time in the future.

Are we listening to the same person..?! Her evening show on 98 was some of the worst radio I've heard in this country. In my opinion she is the epitome of everything that is wrong with Irish radio and definitely not deserving of a local gig never mind a national.

    "Takeaway Tuesday" anyone?

Yeah cant understand the love for her. Used to listen to 98fm when Foley was on, she joined him on brekfast and added nothing to it. Always found her to waffle waaaay too much. Just play the tunes and park all the chatter.

After 15 years I have finally stopped listening to Today FM .Its the end of an era .KC on Red FM is better than Dempsey .Ive turned to Ryan Tubriddy and then Pat Kenney for mornings. Then George and Sean till 4 .I never thought I would tune out of Today FM. Even their app has been deleted from my phone. Regrettable but inevitable

Not a funny bone between the 3 of them.

I presume Phil Cawley is no longer the super sub of the station ? he used to fill in on every program apart from the last word.

In fairness, if you're going off to listen to Pat Kenny, George Hook and Sean Moncrief - then it seems you're more interested in talk radio. Today FM is never really going to be like that, and concentrates mainly on music for most parts of the day (apart from Matt Cooper)

True. He should have been given the weekday afternoon slot where he used to be, a safe pair of hands.

Bob Conway is seldom heard now. Martin King hasn't been filling in for at least a year and where is Derek Flood?

Other fill-in's who left (or otherwise) recently: Tim Kelly, Jim O'Neill.

I heard recently that Derek Flood is now working in a mobile phone shop

Nothing would surprise me. It now looks like you're only going to survive for so long on a national radio station before you're put out to grass. After that, your only hope is a gig on a smaller radio station and there are only so many spaces to go around. If you're a DJ on a radio station, you really would want to have other irons in the fire.

Looks like the station has been shooting new promo shots for all shows around Dublin today to be rolled out next week I would imagine as part of a more edgy "cool" branding strategy. I notice they have redecorated the studio D&D broadcast from with blue and yellow walls...looks f*cking awful! And the new wall they seem to be using for all guest pictures when they come in has slightly updated Today FM logo and branding http://www.todayfm.com/Amy-Huberman-Just-Wants-A-Signed-Jersey-From-BOD

    Oh Christ...I hate it already...http://www.todayfm.com/Al-Porter-Kicks-Of-Today-FMs-New-Lunchtime-Show-This-Monday

"Al is genuinely interested in people and loves nothing more than discussing things that matter, not the big news of the day or current affairs, but the day-to-day things."

    Utter nonsense then

Christ almighty, the headline in that article:eek:

It should read 'Al Porter Kicks Off Today FMs New Lunchtime Show This Monday.'

It's basic literacy or, at least, it should be.

I'm not normally a grammar Nazi but that's a national station and the headline writer cannot spell!

Ugh. "Kicks of" is repeated in the body of the article. And there is a semicolon just randomly abused in the third sentence.

That really annoys me as it's dickish to use a semicolon in informal writing, double dick points for doing it incorrectly.

The only reason I turned to Tubriddy and Pat is Anton left and there is no morning magazine style show of any quality on the airwaves. I miss my mix of music and chat but what can I do

I'm sorry but that comment really pïssed me off. All that was missing was the suggestion we start tuning into Ronan Collins on Radio 1 for our daily mix of Joe Dolan and Foster & Allen. People of my age (35+) aren't joyless old fogies who do nothing but listen to current affairs and talk radio all day. Unfortunately no radio station in the country seems to want to know us now. The two music based national radio stations are aiming for a much younger demographic. I hope you're not dropped like a hot snot too when you get a bit older.

Speaking of Martin king I saw a tweet yesterday from Q102 which said he'd joined the station.

Al Porter has the most annoying, nasely voice

I will not be tuning in.

I never heard the chap before until I saw a clip of him on The Late Late the other night. Then, I saw and heard promos for his new show. Jesus Christ, what a voice!

Saw him comparing himself to Graham Norton in the Indo today and saying he is ahead of where he was at this stage of his career...then went on to say:

"I'm not doing it to swoop in and be some sort of ratings hero. I've never cared about YouTube hits, Twitter followers, Instagram followers, you name it. I would suspect it's natural to shed listeners to begin with because if you're a radio listener you're loyal and you become accustomed to a certain thing. It's comfortable, y'know? If you don't like Al Porter, you're just going to turn the dial."

That last sentence is something I expect many will do, I would not be surprised to see the slot dip below 100,000 by years end. And I would expect Today FM won't be pleased with the first part of that given that hits and followers is what they seem to be tripping themselves up over lately.

How do they measure the listenership figures? I'm going to give him a chance but I really cant see it lasting long.

I'll be switching at 2:30 regardless, whether I do it 2 and half early or not will give it a few days to let it settle down and see if the show is any good.
