I have seen some areas with 2 different green icons side by side on the map.
Small green dot icon says :
Fibre Broadband Cabinet is expected to go Live on 22-Feb-17

The bigger green plectrum type icon says :

Estimated date for first Live FTTH Fibre Services with speeds up to 1000Mb/s is Autumn 2017.

Does that mean I will be able to get fibre in a few weeks but will need to wait until Autumn to get FTTH?
It means you could get FTTC if you're connected to that cabinet and within a set distance..before presumably getting fibre later this year

Mine changed from "First FTTH connections going live Early/Mid 2017" to "Winter 2017."

It is currently Winter and it is 2017. Does that mean that they're talking about early 2017 or does it mean that they're delaying it...AGAIN...off to the end of 2017?

Some would say it's Spring now...so would say its end of...

Ive spent an hour going through the map and I've probably missed some places.

A few places which were meant to go live 3rd February got moved, some only by a few days and others by several months.

A few places which never had a date are now live and one of them has 10 extra homes live then the full original planned.

Lots of previously live exchanges got boosted with more live premises.

Roslevin in Athlone got added as well, Ive no idea if thats part of the town scheme or rural as it's not listed in the first 100,000 and doesnt have a premises count.

    Rural Blue Lines

Sixmilebrdige still stuck at H2 2017. Haven't seen any evidence of them doing any work around my area yet.

There is also still one Cabinet on the map as being planned.
The cabinet has been there for the past year - they probably put it in while planning existed and they were putting in the rest of the cabinets, just never bothered to connect it.

Edit: Ignore that. Chrome was still displaying me the old map.

Sixmilebridge is moved out to "Winter/ Spring 2018" :(

Rearcross is still Late 2017 ... no change there!

Edit: Sorry - it's never going to be an FTTH exchange, so not relevant to this thread ... but just saying not every exchange got new dates.

Swords also moved to Winter 2017 but its a mixture of urban and rural rollout it seems

Dundrum in Tipp gone from H2:2017 to Autumn 2017. That should be a good thing.
There has been some work on trees and hedges, and replacing and marking poles near me on the blue line.

    The Curragh is Spring /Summer 17 from early/mid 17

My exchange has not changed at all since they brought the time back from 2020 to 2018 ......
    Spring/Summer 2018

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 919 ✭✭✭Gwynston

Claregalway has changed from "Early / Mid 2017" to "Summer / Autumn 2017" which is a slightly worse nomenclature than some of the the others that were also "Early / Mid 2017" and have changed to "Spring / Summer 2017".

So basically I expect to now have to wait until Q4 at the earliest.... :(

I wonder will this have a knock on effect on the Kinvara exchange. The map still shows 'completion work being done', which has been showing since last September.

Local rep has previously stated that Kinvara was next exchange to be done after Turloughmore.
Does the 'completion' note indicate that fibre is on the horizon in this quarter, does anyone know?

I don't really understand because the Claregalway exchange has been live, fibre enabled for many months. So homes in the village and elsewhere near to cabinets have been getting FTTC service.

So I don't know why the Kinvara area would be going live with FTTH sooner when the fibre upgrade hasn't even been completed at the exchange. Have FTTH wiring works been completed in the surrounding area?

    another update on earlier.

Roscommon town was last down for 02 January for going live, this has moved to 2017/2018.

From the last update a total of 7 locations missed their target, 4 of them 3-6 months setback. Perhaps this was an error in the last update and these areas were not meant to be going live.

I missed a few exchanges in the rural blue line update and found another one which has 10 more premises than previously planned.

    Rural Blue Lines

    Virginia – 570 / 750
    Carlingford – 530 / 570
    Ballyfarnan – 360 / 490
    Belcarra – 320 / 340
    Inverin – 480 / 690
    Athboy – 530 / 560
    Courtown – 710 / 870
    Killinick - 420 / 420
    Ballyboden – 230 / 250
    Rahan – 230 / 300
    Youghal – 320 / 330
    Dungloe – 540 / 600
    Ballyclough – 130 / 510
    Belclare – 270 / 510
    Turloughmore – 370 / 830
    Quigleys Point – 290 / 520
    Strandhhill – 240 / 260
    Blessington – 100 / 350
    Duncannon – 120 / 420
    Crosshaven – 110 / 140
    Dunfanaghy - 540 / 600
    Ringaskiddy - 120 / 160
    Annascaul – 100 / 510
    Ballybrittas – 130 / 290
    Brittas Bay Bridge – 170 / 440
    Clarina – 80 / 480
    Newbridge – 100 / 300
    Rhode – 190 / 360
    Oranmore – 170 / 850
    Roslevin – 70 / ??
    Dunleer – 210 / 1110
    Curracloe – 540 / 530
    Cornamona – 110/ 100
    Kells – 140 / 590

The towns scheme has had some premises added to the total but no new locations.

    Bray 160
    Greystones 1840
    Balbriggan 1070
    Drogheda 1850
    Dundalk 100
    Cavan 2180
    Monaghan 760
    Sligo 2810
    Letterkenny 5570
    Castlebar 1330
    Sandyford 2870
    Wexford 3970
    Douglas 840
    Ballincollig 130
    Carrigaline 1270
    Tralee 1500
    Ennis 1680
    Naas 3900
    Kilkenny 3840

Total of what I can find so far:

    Rural – 9,310
    Urban – 37,670

The blue line scheme is still well behind target but has shown a significant jump since last month suggesting that progress is finally starting to move a bit quicker. It's annoying that 7 locations missed their targets with 4 of them possibly total errors and shouldn't have been there in the first place.

Not mention the fact that in quite of few of those live FTTH exchanges, only a small proportion of the homes in the area have actually been passed.

When are the rest going to be able to get connected?

it varies from exchange to exchange and depends on far the completion has goten to when exchange goes live.

There are now 3 exchanges completed, 2 of them were completed in 1 go.

Some exchanges go live with only a fraction of intended premises passed, in a situation like that it could be several months after going live when exchange is fully completed.

My exhange (Kildangan) has been pushed from H2 2017 to Spring 2018 :( Ducting was put in couple of months ago but no activity seen since.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 206 ✭✭mcquaim

Emyvale and Glaslough are down for Autumn 2017 when nothing has started with FTTH for either.. Glaslough doesn't have broadband of any description apart from mobile so to believe that FTTH will be ready by autumn is nonsense I reckon..

I have seen pretty much no sign of KN or OpenEir anywhere around the north Monaghan area, outside of the town that is..

If this rollout was based on any kind of reality you would think they would try to hit more densely populated areas first - but it doesn't seem like it.

My local exchange Castletroy is down for winter 2018 - though all the more rural exchanges surrounding it are have dates in 2017 etc. Can anybody explain that?
When FTTC was being rolled out in Castletroy - it was very early compared to most of the country never mind Limerick IIRC.
That being said I have very little faith in the dates they publish considering they have Exchanges that went live that had no dates previously in that last update.

Killarney has been changed from "early/mid 2017" to "spring/summer 2017", not much of a difference but the fibre and splice boxes are up so it shouldn't be long.

Ballyspillane has been moved from early/mid to winter 2017.

Muckross has been given a more exact date of spring 2018.

Killorglin has been moved to autumn 2017 from early/mid 2017.

You know they are going for a land grab in order to make the NBP less profitable for any other bidder. Therefore they need to hoover up the most economical rural areas that they can, before the contract is awarded. So urban is barely getting a look in until the NBP is awarded.

Maybe i'm missing something but why is the Muckross cabinet/exchange situated in spot where there are no houses nearby

Our line (Cornafulla) has been updated to go live 22nd Feb, the Eir site still shows that it isn't available, do they wait until after the go live date before updating the Eir site.

4 years since the cabinet went in down the road and now they're telling me another 2 years all because I'm connected to the exchange like every other poor sod that lives in this area - they must have put the cabinet in for the craic because none of my neighbours are connected to it.

Just checked the Where and When website and see that my village is now pushed out yet again!!! Very pi$$ed off now. It was H2 2017, and now it's Spring/Summer 2018. FFS, that's the 4th time it's been pushed out now.

My area summerhill down for Autumn just hope it doesn't slip like it has twice.I can't see them hit the target of end of 2018 to finish rural rollout.
