I can't think of a more ridiculous concept for a game than the rubbish showed in the 1-2 switch trailer.

    Anyone have anything?

I see E3 is open to the public this year, tickets for it go on sale February 13th for an early bird price of $150. Tickets will be $250 after that. 15,000 tickets available.

I've always had a tablet and use it semi regularly but don't bother with android gaming. I was actually hoping this would enable me to get rid of my tablet and have a multipurpose gaming/browsing/streaming device.

I'm a bit torn now that it's simply a console.

it will have a browser and netlfix and such just not at launch.

It really is shockingly bad. Embarrassing. Nintendoland is like a work of art compared to that brain dead trash

Surely they could have done an updated warioware title. A lot of the games seem about as fun as flicking a coin

And that's all that matters tbh - that you're happy with your purchase. The same way others are happy to wait it out. :)

Personally I don't mind if it never has a browser or Netflix - add them in down the line as an optional download if they want.
Lads I've emptied my piggy bank and I have €250. To Switch or not to Switch that is the question.

Isn't it €330 or thereabouts? Before you factor in any games or accessories.

I still got an email last night from Gamestop saying to preorder the Switch.

And think they said before that they plan on allowing video sharing functionality later

Why would they? Nintendo will copyright claim any videos posted to sharing sites, so you're limited to essentially posting a small clip on twitter or something.

1,2, Switch is a casual game/tech demo for families/parties. I don't get the consternation over it, some of the games look bonkers and bizarre/stupid for sure. Having the biggest game Nintendo ever created alongside a game like that at launch is just a balance. I don't have to think it's good or buy it but it's not aimed at me in the first place. It should have been packed in for sure though although that would have raised the cost.

A friend of mine who only decided to get the switch in the last couple of days emailed gamestop today to ask if he ordered today would he be guaranteed the grey console for release day delivery and they said yes.

Seems to be the red/blue one that's not guaranteed.

[saracasm]I'm buying the Switch on launch day. I'll cancel my preorder though if they don't have a browser, Netflix or Plex on it on day one!
I want to be able to have movies, tv and a Youtube video open on ALL of my consoles at once in my living room. What's this about the Switch playing games though? I think this an unlikely developement for what is ultimately a multimedia device.... will it have a killer app at launch, like Adobe Acrobat???[/sarcasm]

That Foxconn leak that came out ages, which ended up being right about quite a lot of things like the Joy con colours, battery size and even the correct weight of the joy-cons etc, is all the more interesting as well because of a second, more powerful unit that was mentioned in the 'leak'. There's a long thread over on Neogaf about it debating it but it's pretty much a sort of dev unit that was produced to about 2000 units, had an external gpu and a second processing chip which apparently made it quite a powerful machine. All rumour and speculation of course but that patent ages ago for the 'Supplementary Computing Device' is all the more interesting now.

Disagree, I think its damn stupid of them not to have a good browser in there, could be the deciding factor for a lot of people that they could use it as a tablet aswell. They should have gone the other way and had it work as a decent browser and ebook reader aswell, just keep the emphasis on games in the marketing.

Speaking of it acting like a tablet, have they ever shown the Switch powering up? Does it take long to boot I wonder? Presumably there'll be a sleep function like on a proper tablet or the 3DS/2DS.

God imagine, wanting FEATURES on your console. Christ on a bicycle these consumers and their unfair demands. Imagine playing games for a few hours and thinking i would like to take a bit of respite and watch some Netflix or watch YouTube on my TV, THESE. ANIMALS.

You're doing it all wrong, my voice has a much deeper timbre to it, like the vibration of a matchbooked slab of quartersawn mahogany. Well, two can play at this Saracasm game, unless you go back and fix the spelling and then it's just me...

["Saracasm"]I'm cancelling my pre-order if the Switch does anything else other than play games. Browser? CANCELLED! Netflix? CANCELLED! Power button? I can't play that. CANCELLED! Bowser? CANCE... Oh ****! Wait! Come back! I thought you said something else!

I've decided not to get it as it doesn't have a coffee maker attached to the side of it.

The only internet browser I've used on a console is the PS3 browser, mainly cos it was the only device I had capable of web browsing at the time. If there's a demand for a web browser, we'll get it.

Aren't the majority of TVs over the last ten years or so smart TVs, with Netflix and youtube built in? I get that it'd be nice to have these built in, but if you've to use a smart phone to access online functionality outside of the house, then what really is the need? I'm sure a Netflix app will come along in time, but I really don't see the need for a browser or a YouTube application on a device with a screen that's just a tiny bit larger than a smartphone in the first place.

Not sure i understand the throw the baby out with the bathwater reactions to the lack of such functionality either.

I think its the idea of stuff being in games/consoles, rather than using them. Like how every game and its dog had online multiplayer at one point, despite no one playing them.

Why do people want the features?
It could be that they're trolling. Or that they're greedy? Or that they have expectations that an entertainment purchase *must* meet.

And I'm not saying none of those are the case, they probably all are to a greater or lesser extent.

but some of us want the features because they would be bloody handy and should not be difficult to implement given they are - as someone else pointed out - on every other bloody device out there.

Why just yesterday I used the 3DS browser to look up egg groups for a couple of Pokémon because it saved me the bother of putting my 3DS down and remembering where I left my phone (it was in my pocket, no panic!). Is it a good browser? No it's ****e. Did it do the job and save me time? yes it jolly well did.

Having those options does not dilute the purity of the gaming experience.
Wanting those options does not make me less of a gamer than you.
Giving those options does not cost them anything. Except licensing and development and distribution and icon design. But you can factor that in to the cost of a joycon, and look! They already did! They're getting Leonardo Da Vinci to design the icon, that would explain it.

The browser is such a simple function, Nintendo are being quiet about things like this because they know how the reaction will be and has been. The Wii U browser is great, I prefer it over my smart phone. You can have a video streaming on the TV while you browse on your gamepad. The Switch can't do that and it's a convoluted setup. It's handy to press the 'home' button when you're stuck in a game and search for a solution or just to take a break.

Anyone remember the old folk story of "Stone Soup" from when they were a child?

G: Is there any possibility for Final Fantasy XV to be released on Nintendo Switch?

HT: There are no Plans, it wouldn’t run…

G: It wouldn’t run at all?

HT: It might run… But we haven’t conducted the proper tests on whether it would run properly on Switch or not, so I cannot say for sure.

G: So there is no plan at all?

HT: There are no plans for Switch at the moment, but overall, there is interest in the platform among the development team. We do have lots of Nintendo fans inside BD2.

Incidentally, I think that Switch would be really cool if it could run Android apps on its portable screen…

you say all this as if nintendo has said it will not have a browser. it will have a browser just not on launch day. they prioritised the getting it to run games first and will then add this once they have figured out how to stop the hack that was exploited on the wii u

So they rushed the console to market? Yes I thought so.

And please don't use the Wii U as any kind of example of competence.. saying things like "the Wii U didn't have Netflix day one!" Yes, but the Wii U also failed miserably.

Christ don't dare be unhappy with something Nintendo does or you're going to get mocked to high heavens

    Bloody hate fanboys man.

Look i am one who does not care if it has apps.

    ITS A GAMES CONSOLE.

If i wont to go on the internet i go use my phone or laptop. The phone is with all people at all times.

Netflix who cares. ITs on my smart TV and other games consoles.

I wont it to play games thats it and i am happy :)

The lack of a butter churn function is making me question my preorder.
Plus there was the cheesecake feature that never materialised.
I am disillusioned with the lack of non gaming features on this games console!

Actually, if the Switch happens to have a casting feature it would immediately negate a lot of the browser/non gaming app concerns.
