I just read SJ's blog about LA and this immediately jumped out at me!

'To be the only Irish blogger to be flown out with Universal to attend a celebrity bash and to report back my thoughts on the film, was such an honour too. I won’t lie.'

So basically we were right, she was flown out, all expenses paid so she would 'report back her thoughts on the film' but she never mentioned that it was a sponsored trip.

Where does it say 'I was flown out AND paid' ?

The quote said she was asked to flown out to attend the premiere and report back on the film.

Money may not have crossed hands, but she had an all expenses paid trip including business class flights to LA and back. (Flights for 2 midweek is around £15k and the Ace Hotel stay is $950 not to mention the premiere party and tickets to the film)
Why would Universal send her for free without anything in return? They wouldn't and they didn't. It was a sponsored trip.

    You are wrong.

If they didn't give her money she doesn't have to #ad.

I never said ad. I said sponsored. Therefore it would be #sp would it not?

She's not going to turn around and say the film was crap if she is working with universal. So yeah, she would have to #ad it if they were flying her out knowing she was going to write a good review......

She copied and pasted the same exact post to her instagram and facebook. Same wording even down to the emojis. Seems like something Universal gave her to write. Hence, the told her to what to write which was a good review. In my opinion anyway... :P

I agree with this! I also found it hilarious that she said that she was a huge Fifty Shades fan having read some of the books. There are only 3 :pac:

#sp and #ad are the same, same rules for both. No money, no hashtag required

I'm afraid your wrong. If a review is written for a company, where it has been prearranged to be positive. This needs to be #ad.

So, say someone is flown first class and put up in a 5 star hotel and posts what basically looks like a pre-approved review and media blurbs. This would be #ad.

Would anyone know if the waxperts owner (not a blogger, but acts like one) is in powerscourt for free? She did a room tour, spa etc and its all very similar to rosie connollys stay there.

She seems to be promoting / mentioning products a lot now.

Also to quote a tweet from Rosemary from June last year which was featured in a post on Evoke.ie from last week talking about the new changes.

'No, sorry, blogger buds, when you say "a collaboration with" or "working with", what you need to say is: #ad #sponsored or #spon'

So is it safe to assume that SJ needed to explain that it was an #ad or #spon. This is why I am confused

Yes if she is doing a tour of the room and amenities then she got it for free or was paid ..
she is promoting a lot lately ..
I'm not a fan of the people with their own business like Marissa and Ellen promoting and behaving like bloggers it turns me off them and their company.
    Something unprofessional about it .

When she first snapped it I thought it looked as though they had gotten it for free - but she did mention something along the lines that they had paid for a movie package on the TV, which made me think they had probably paid for the whole thing? Also she was just on complaining about the dinner which she surely wouldn't have done if it had been free.

Just wondering would SoSu and Pippa have to hashtag #ad when they promote their own range? like Pippas always going on about her POCOs and SoSu constantly shows off her eyelashes make up range! So would they constitute as ads I wonder?

To be honest I think people are really starting to get sick of this whole blogger thing. I used to follow most of them but the only one I find interesting and good is Retro Flame, she doesn't overdue it with the snaps and seems to put in a lot of work as regards blogging/vlogging etc. Shes also doing quite well in the USA.

As someone who used love Grace, her snaps dont interest me anymore, constantly going on about coffee, breastfeeding non stop etc. and setting up an instagram account for her newborn child was a bit OTT. And then you dont even know whats an ad or not! Then you have MUF whos obsessed with the gym in there what seems to be 24/7 surely shes working with her gym as shes always snapping in there? so that should have a #ad aswell?

And Love Lauren seems to be away every weekend in a different country....I wonder if shes paid/working with someone for that or is it just her going away on her own accord?

Cant believe the comments about Just Jordan! always thought she was genuinely nice! but blocking people from asking if something was sent or not...wtf??

I reckon these bloggers will be forgotten in a year or 2, wannabe celebrities is what most of them are.

Yes I agree. I used to watch everyone's snap chat stories daily but now I find I don't watch any of the popular ones. Too much snaps to flick through, 90% boring ones. I do still watch Rosemary, Laura's views and doireanns snaps regularly.

I think snap chat has been so saturated. Then when you see someone promoting on snapchat with no # but on instgram or FB, they have it, it irritates me. It's laziness to say it's to much effort to do it on snapchat and I don't like that.

What about payment in kind, that does have to be #ad.

Someone asks before if they need to #ad for their own ranges and the answer was no. I wouldn't expect them to like it's pretty obvious they are going to promote their own brand! I think, like a few others here that pippa and Suzanne will both veer away from blogging and just concentrate mainly on the business end! Maybe rather then blog have a website sumilar beaut.ie, bit of everything!
I doubt the makeup fairy is sponsored/paid by her gym she only says where it is once in a while. I really think she is going to do one of those fitness models like oh fitness is. So rather then going all the time (11a week!!) to promote the gym I think it's for a genuine reason!

She got a lot of stick over the food complaints and tweeted this. So maybe it's not a freebie

Why are people giving out that she complained about the food?! That's just ridiculous. She paid for it and wasn't happy with it. Some People are very strange! If you give a negative review you're attacked too!

I don't see why someone would have to # their own products - isn't it obvious that they're ads??
The problem lies where we don't know whether something was an ad or not......
Certainly think these threads have been useful in that sense, although some have not caught on yet! ;) They will!

I also think MUF is training for something like Siobhan OH is. MUF obviously works incredibly hard at anything she puts her hand to. How does she motivate herself to do 11 gym sessions a week?!
During the week, Siobhán OH had complaints about using paper plates for her dinner (bad for the environment) and claimed she didn't have time to do washing as she doesn't have a dishwasher?? A dishwasher, for one person? Have we lost our marbles? She has time for all the blowdry and nail sessions...!!

Sometime you just can't win - everyone gives out cos all we hear in positive reviews and then there's more moaning because someone said something neagtive but honest, Ellen paid a fair price I'm sure for a Saturday night in the Powerscourt so she can snap what she feels like, no one bats an eye when the woman says x,y or z is fab.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 63 ✭✭GradGirl27

Tbf she's well within her right to snap whatever she wants, it's her snapchat. We're all so used to being spoon fed this whole everything is amazing crap about everything by most snappers, which most of the time we don't know whether we're only being told that because cash has lined someones pockets or not.

I for one thought her meal didn't look nice before she came back on to say so. The pizza looked reheated and not fresh and the bhuna (which was €15!) looked super dry. Powerscourt is a 5* hotel and I'd expect a much higher standard of food from their room service regardless if she was being sponsored to stay there or not.

I loved her coming back on to let people know. I think it made her more 'real' in my books that she would come on to tell us about a bad experience, also she wasn't saying it to just be rude to the hotel she was just commenting on how Cooper would be going to bed soon and she was disappointed because they didn't want to wait for another meal to arrive.

Anyways to stay on topic I remember Ellen said herself a few months ago that she doesn't do sponsored posts or work with other businesses in the blogger way because she's not a blogger and because she has her own business. I know she mentions POCO everyday but thats because she (so it seems) actually does wear them everyday and her and Pippa are friends. She has purchased her own pairs, has shown herself ordering them etc. I think she's always genuine when she has recieved something like earlier Conrad posted that Cooper was sent a handmade canvas print and they mentioned he was sent it and then showed the persons details.

I'm in shock! SJ has actually used #so for a post today where she is naming that Rubicon drink! Is she actually starting to comply? If so, great but about time.

On snapchat? I watched a few of hers this morning and she was going through the "goodie" bag where the drink got a few snaps. Was there more? :o

Grace had brunch at the Marker hotel today. On her instagram she says thanks to the hotel for the invite. Presume she didnt pay for it then...she also doesn't mention it was an invite on snapchat

I didn't think that was a paid gig at all from her snap chat. The opposite, I thought it was one of the few times she took a break from paid work. Really disappointed about that. I have zero trust left in faces by grace as a blogger or an influencer

Well i don't know for sure but it wouldn't be usual for a hotel to invite you then expect you to pay. I say this from experience working in travel booking. I suppose her defense would be that she's not being paid, they invited her for a brunch but they didnt pay her as such. Thats usually her line when shes called out.

Has anyone messaged grace about which products are ads or anything? I'd love to hear what her response would be but she'd probably go back on snapchat with the crocodile tears and labelling anyone who questions her a bully
