We would then have the rather farcical situation of Anton interviewing people who his firm have taught how to not answer questions. His day job should really rule him out of current affairs broadcasting, The conflicts of interests are just too glaring.

    Very true.

How many shows has marian done in 2017? Youd need a weekend off after 3 weeks into the new year

Frankly , i hope she doesn't come back , she was a force in the 80's and 90's but is lost nowadays , why doesn't RTE TRY some new talent in this slot , for 295k euro per annum, plenty of bright new journalists could be given a try , some will fail and some actually might be good...nothing ventured . Is marion on an annual renewal contract does anyone know?.

The liberals on the show are nearly hysterical this morning talking about Trump, many octaves being broken with the high pitch.

I'm no fan of Der Farter, but this is getting like a kid running around the living room banging their Xmas drum.

I turned on an hour ago and they were talking about Trump. I turned on again just now and they're still talking about him. Is there nothing going on in this country worth talking about?

if Clinton got in, wonder how on earth they would fill up these slots. oh I nearly forgot - neven maguire.

The problem is that there's no talent coming through that can carry an important slot on a permanent basis.
Plenty that can fill in for a few weeks undoubtedly, but recent events at Newstalk have shown that outside maybe a dozen high profile names, there's a massive gap to the rest.

And here's a tedious spambot getting hysterical that anybody should ever question the golden boy of the far right.

Figures from listenership polls show increasing numbers 'turning back the dial' to quality radio. Marian has been at the top level of broadcasting for a little bit longer than your limited timespan would indicate. No wonder she was head-hunted by commercial radio, but was decent enough to avoid that particular chalice. May I suggest that you tune into junior rte and maybe find the next 'MF' and come back and tell us?

That's a highly 'misogynistic ' comment , someone sensible would keep a low profile for a few weeks after embarrassing yourself last week.

Listening to Morning Ireland and I see that Marian's old pal from the US - Ms McKeown - has been enlisted this morning to give us the low-down on Trump's latest outrage. I know she used to work for the Sunday Tribune but what's her current role? Maybe it's her tone but I never feel like I'm getting much more than a round-up of the US media reaction. Which anybody with a Twitter account could get for themselves, surely...

Terrific interview with young Joe O'Connor - a national treasure! Could listen to this all day...if I only had time :-)

"Nice talking to you and enjoy your trip to Cuba."

    "Ciao"

the ' national treasure ' suddenly was uncharacteristically stumped for words when some pro- Trump texts were read out (Miraculously), all the loquacious treasure could come up with was the cliches trotted out by the usual suspects " the Democratic party really has to do some soul- searching now ".He really is a 'treasure ' isn't he!.

"Kings... Of Leon will be playing here, and we have tickets for the upcoming gig. And I'm sure there will be a lot of interest in that"

i.e. I have absolutely no scooby doo who Kings Of Leon are.. They could be a dance troupe for all I know.

You'll find a lot of Latin Americans use that asa greeting although I've seen it spelled as Tchau.

He's an insufferable bore lapped up by boring, philistine people. RTE have given him a platform for years as his kind of guff goes down well with the Irish listener.

KOL to the "young" hipsters amongst us Peter.

They're a technically proficient rock band, some good songs if a bit samey. I did see them live once, might have been Lansdowne Road if memory serves, and they kind of bored me. No stage presence at all, i like my rock stars to prance around a bit, though not to make a t!t of themselves like that Bongo chap.

Agree there with Eddie too, but maybe his guff also only goes down well with the Irish supporter. :p:p

    .

It just annoys me the way that she says something like "And there will be a lot of interest in that", so as to pretend that she has any clue about what she's talking about.

Sorry to have to disagree with your annoyance, but as a long time admirer of some of our best presenters (National Treasurers - if you will), I don't think that I have ever considered over that time that Marian is 'pretending' anything. The only person to admit here 'not having a clue - (or was it a scooby doo)' was your goodself!!

Some reeducation in the english language is really needed for someone , there should be a ban on people commenting/ posting in a language they don't understand.

I wouldn't be shouting to ban anyone around here - even incoherent contributors - but I agree wholeheartedly if you feel re-education is of benefit to someone. Let's be gracious and agree on that much and it may be the start of a learning process.
