Luke McClean at 12? I thought he was a winger

Reckon I've seen him play in every position in the backline for Italy. I think he started out as a back three player, got stuck at 10 when Italy were playing everyone with an Italian passport there, then got shunted back to 15 once Haimona, Orquera, and Canna showed up. I'm guessing O'Shea wants a kicking/playmaking 12, McClean was the best he had. Started at 12 and played pretty well against South Africa to be fair.

This is a massive long shot, but Accenture published a big spreadsheet of stats for all players last year. Breaks, Metres, Tackles etc. Anyone have it, I can't find it anymore.

Gordon D'Arcy might be able to get it tracked down if you ask him nicely

Ah, here, you have to down your drink for a penalty try. It's only the right thing to do.

    Kruis out for England.

Lock supplies becoming increasingly stretched, though they do still have Itoje, Launchbury and Lawes so not a disaster just yet.

Owen Farrell named at inside centre for England...Best 10 on these islands and Ford starts ahead of him...think Eddie got a bit of concussion when he fell out of the shower

How does everyone see the bonus point situation affecting how games go?

In a way, I can see it benefitting Italy and Scotland as teams may now turn down shots at goal to go for the corner allowing them to stay im touching distance for longer. In saying that, the Italian team really does look dreadful and I think they could easily concede 30+ tries over the course of the tournament.

England team to face France: Mike Brown; Jonny May, Jonathan Joseph, Owen Farrell, Elliot Daly; George Ford, Ben Youngs; Joe Marler, Dylan Hartley (captain), Dan Cole; Joe Launchbury; Courtney Lawes; Maro Itoje, Tom Wood, Nathan Hughes.

Replacements: Jamie George, Matt Mullan, Kyle Sinckler, Teimana Harrison, James Haskell, Danny Care, Ben Te'o, Jack Nowell.

Very interesting selection. Counting on a lot of cover there from the starting team with no lock or outhalf on the bench. It gives them a lot of impact though in terms of to flankers coming on as well as Te'o and Nowell against a tired team.

Good to see Daly finally getting just reward after knocking on the door for a few years.

They played that pairing pretty much all last year and won every game.

Ben Te'o getting the call up he rich-ly deserves...

Johnny Sexton shouldn't be holding off on making holiday plans this Summer because he certainly won't be on that plane to the land of the long white cloud.
He ain't getting inside Farrell, Ford, Biggar, Russell and soon Jackson.

If you're that confident you should be sticking money on him not travelling, or inversely sticking money on Russell, Ford and Biggar. Right now Paddy Power aren't even offering odds on Jackson.

Another great prediction! Not a great track record on those but we'll see how it goes.

He's the best player in the position on the islands when fit but not when he can't stay on the pitch for more than 20 minutes. I hope the suggestions (which seem bizarre at face value) that he's in 'the best condition of his life' are true and we see him play out the 6 Nations and stay fit until the tour starts, if that happens there's no chance he doesn't play for the Lions.

If Sexton can stay fit he'll start for the Lions. He's still the best 10 in Europe when he plays.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,696 ✭✭✭flangemeistro

Thanks for that. I'll put that on the same slip as my Scotland, France, Italy accumulator for this weekend.

Wales have picked ther team for Italy match. All as expected really. Only slightly surprising call is Nicky Smith starting instead of Evans.

I still prefer Williams at FB and halfpenny on wing and would have liked to see Thomas Young in as backrow sub. I hope Sam Davies gets decent game time as a good 6N even off the bench could see him as a Lions bolter

Wales: Leigh Halfpenny; George North, Jonathan Davies, Scott Williams, Liam Williams; Dan Biggar, Rhys Webb; Nicky Smith, Ken Owens, Samson Lee; Jake Ball, Alun Wyn Jones; Sam Warburton, Justin Tipuric, Ross Moriarty.

Subs: Scott Baldwin, Rob Evans, Tomas Francis, Cory Hill, James King, Gareth Davies, Sam Davies, Jamie Roberts.

he has to more than stay fit, seen as to who the coach is
