Sorry, wasn't fully sure. I'm not surprised. It would appear that she's not all sweet and wholesome as she tries to portray. Seems very poor at declaring ads and sponsored posts.

She had snaps showing the garnier stuff and i sent a snap asking if there should be a hastag spons on it and she came back very defensive and then i was blocked.....had i just been a new follower i would have assumed she purchased these.

I don't understand how they think that people won't notice? I've seen at least 5 people with garnier stuff on Instagram this week so it's obviously an ad. It takes two seconds to say so, and everyone would appreciate the honesty.

Did any of them use #ad?

    Press drops aren't ads!

    Yeh that's my point.

I really think there should be a sticky here that everyone needs to read.

If the person wasn't paid money then it's not an ad. Whether you think it should be an ad is a whole other discussion.

Adding to that I'd be very surprised if SJ's trip to LA isn't a paid collaboration. Not an #ad to be seen anywhere.

Why go into so much depth about a product if there is no benefit to your pocket be it cash or free product? Why show it or even talk about it?

I agree about the sticky by the way!

Because if they didn't PR companies wouldn't send them anything else.

    1. To look more favourable to brands (being seen promoting something encourages brands to send you stuff so you might promote that too)
    2. You actually like the product and want to show people (it's their job after all)
    3. To show off (she's showing her post so I'll show mine)

Regardless of being paid or not if you agree to promote a companies product it is an advert. I think what you mean is they are not required to use #ad if they are not paid.

I think the bloggers who get out ahead of all this will do well. Forget what you are required to do and start adapting to full disclosure.

    Not legally!

By the dictionary definition it is, but so is giving a positive review on any public platform of something you purchased yourself.

If they agree to promote a product positively with he company it is required to be #ad

Also I don't know did any of ye listen to the link I posted earlier. But it says that they should really let people know if they get products for free not for ASAI guidelines but for consumer law.

Most bloggers for PR post would say something like "i was sent this/this arrived in the post today" and theyre usually once offs, you can kind of spot them as opposed to when they are working with a specific product or company and they just show a product with a review. They dont mention where they got them or worse still they imply theyve bought it or its not an ad or collaboration

Would you think Grace got her gym membership for free? I wouldn't imagine they would be too happy considering every day it's "I've decided not to go to the gym as I had a long walk"

Whoever asked JK about whether the food sbaps were an ad, he's making fun of them now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,457 ✭✭✭livedadream

That's me. I'll link to what he said to me over snapchat when I'm on my laptop.
How two faced.... didn't seem to have a problem with it when he responded to me last night saying how fab it was... time to unfollow me thinks. And after all my defending him on here, more fool me.

Id be shocked if she paid full price for membership. She doesnt go often but she wears the hoody with the nsme on it. I dont know anyone who walks around with a hoody from their gym

The English ones I follow on Instagram do. So I'm presuming they have been paid for them?

Yes, saying 'before you start saying should this be an #ad' .....
Yeah I mean fair enough he says he's not being paid for it, that Gibson hotel asked him to come try the date night. But its still a freebie night in a posh hotel with cocktails. Nice unpaid work if u can get it. I don't begrudge anyone freebies but at least tell it like it is.

UK bloggers have different guidelines tho.

I thought that alright but wasn't sure. My point wasn't that it was necessarily an ad, it was just in response to someone saying should they not mention if they've been sent something and I was saying that they really should considering if you follow a few people it's quite obvious it's been a press drop so probably better to acknowledge that.

I understand that strictly speaking they don't have to, but for transparency sake

Edit: sorry I just reread my post and did say they should say it's an ad! That's what I get for not reading over a post :pac:

Assume she isn't paying for herself to fly that far to see a movie and home lol. Not a single #ad....

She said on her Instagram that Universal Studios Ireland are bringing her to LA to the premiere.
I don't think that's an ad in fairness. It's a perk of being a celebrity. And she is a celebrity now, really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 957 ✭✭✭MuffinTop86

Agree with the above. I don't think SJ got paid, but if Universal said come fly first class to LA with that guy who goes everywhere with you ( :P ) I'm sure I'd go too!!

I've noticed that a lot with her lately a lot of promoting and no #ad. I think she flies under the radar a bit.

I just got blocked for asking it.....i mean, why do that and for what,,,

I think if this forum is getting attention then brands will be watching it too. I know I work in PR and have learnt a lot from reading threads. It's interesting who blocks people rather than having conversations. As a brand paying for engagement, if you hear about bloggers who block because they can't be bothered to clarify an answer to a question, that doesn't show a strong interest by the blogger on delivering on engagement. It's not just about sticking up posts and that's it. It's the follow up work

Grace has put #sp at the end of her blog post now. From reading the ASAI guidelines doesn't it have to made clear from the start that it's a ad?
Yes it should be made clear from that start that this is an ad. I reported Grace to the ASAI on Tuesday because of this particular ad - I cited her blog, facebook page, snapchat and instagram as evidence to the breach of the guidelines.
The #sp appeared days after this ad went live.
