Whats the most expensive retro item you bought? Bought afew games and an Amiga 600 recently of Ebay, cost afew euro but nothing crazy.

Spent about nearly 400 on Psychic Killer Taromaru and the same again on Hyperduel when I was in Japan. Spent about that on Gimmick on eBay. I went bananas on that Japan trip.

Still have mine, it's a monster of a machine and paid the same price, got it at a midnight launch at smyths in town.

I got mine a year after launch from the US and saved about 100 euros.

    Thought it was a bargain.

By the time it had a game worth playing on it and I actually turned it on it was significantly cheaper :/ such an awful machine in those early years but at least it redeemed itself.

Snatcher CD for me, damned pricey game that one.

    Jaleco Pony. €1400 :pac:

Three more cabs in the €700 range.

Fairly good after that, Sonic Crackers was probably my main moment of madness game wise at about €300. Everything else tends to be sub €100, bar PCBs of course. (I think Ibara was the guts of €300?)

Although I bought most of that 5-10 years ago, so you can't get most of it for sub €100 anymore

Would love to get an original Street Fighter 2 and Alien Storm arcade machine, she would kill me if I did!

It's better to beg for forgiveness than to ask for permission as the fella says.

Drop €2000 on a Star Trek pinball machine and then we can all talk :P

Where could even buy an arcade machine even if you wanted one! Anyone play Mad Dog McCree in the arcades, I Spent a lot of cash on that on holiday back in the day, it was awful.

It was always way more expensive than everything else so I avoided it. It was pay for one go of the game that looked great but looked insanely tough or get two goes of Lethal Enforcers :)

Lethal Enforcers wasn't great either, still better than the Terminator 2 shooter. Never played Operation Wolf in the arcades, I think it was meant to be ok. Just looked at Ebay, nearly 3 grand for a Time Crisis 2 arcade machine, it looks awesome.

I spent a few bon on my 3DO back in the day, bought it at launch, swapped it out for a NTSC model the following year. Still have one, just a superb machine, with some great games though not enough.
It's also a console dense enough to stop the direct energy attacks of Godzilla.... which is nice

Never played one but I remember the price for it was crazy, think Need for Speed and Road Rash were launch titles for it.

I'm afraid to even think about the most pricey retro thing I've purchased. Game wise I'd say my Darius Alpha collection/sickness. I think the most I paid for one was about 2k euro(it was an especially nice version). I've got 12 of them now(would have had 13, but traded one a few years back for access to other retro goodness) didn't pay 2k for them all by the way :)

As for consoles, arcade stuff and other hardware, I can't bring myself to talk about it here :D

My girlfriend encourages me to get these things as she knows I love it. I'd hate to live in a house where I have to explain or hide stuff I'd bought. Plus, she takes delivery of most of it when I'm away, so no way to hide it anyway :)

I think mine was pulseman on the megadrive and a steiff pikachu teddy (I think it was around €300 or so!)

About 120 i think on Castlevania vampires kiss. I've been fairly lucky with picking games up though. although i have bought a couple of repros for 10 - 15 quid from china because i couldn't bring myself to miss rent to buy snes carts.

I got the Japanese version for 15. Exact same game or close enough with English text and a wee bit more reasonable. Sometimes there's easier ways to play these games, unless it's the collection aspect that you want them for!

It's worth a hell of a lot more now at least!

Biggest single item is about 60 euro for a Divmmc for my Spectrum. Lot of small spends (which have seriously added up) on games.
I think I'm the same game wise, although Persona 5 is on the way and I'm getting the nicest pre order for it, it's like 70 or something.
Being into other stuff I can't put it all into games or consoles lol.
Rule of Rose still on my wish list but I think I'll get the Japanese version at this stage just to have it, extra few bob to get the soundtrack.

    Dear lord! :D

I wonder what percentage of known copies that is?

Probably the Neo Geo MVS for me. But it was still a pretty good deal at I think at €350.

It used to be very hard to get your hands on, but if you search now there is usually 2 or 3 on ebay. They have them at crazy prices these days so probably they stay up for sale for months.
Most you see don't have the letter that came with it in the post and they still ask for over 2k for it. It's about 900-1000 just the cart on its own.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭DinoRex

Consolised MVS. But it did come with about 6 carts including the big multi game one.

I see Sega have their own Spotify channel now, free music to balance out the excessive prices of retro games.

So, according to the trolls, Nintendo will be getting a Spotify channel any day now?

We'll probably be charged for each new device we want to play it on.

They didnt have camera head tracking working the last time I tracked though, just rotation.

Sorry thought there were better breakthroughs recently.

Just saw that they have since added camera tracking but its pretty poor, something that could take a lot of work to get right.

If this developed into a usable device for PC though, and isnt too hard to configure for each game id consider getting one!

After a conversation on the Retro Games Forever facebook I was introduced to the Powerbase Mini FM adapter, that lets you play SMS games with FM sounds on your Sega Mega Drive! Boy was that a mouthful!

You can also get kits to add FM to a Master System 1.
