One can only hope....silver linings I guess :D

He'll still be touring he said and developing TV shows so sounds like a side gig for him really which makes it an even poorer move by Today FM management.

It must be really disheartening for staff like Muireann and others who are working hard through the group, and somebody with no experience and a high profile in another sector of entertainment is appointed to this slot. Surely Muireann thought the recent moves in the schedule would have been her opportunity.

I used to really dislike Al Porters style and found him annoying, however, seeing him on that "Living with Lucy" and Brendan O Connors show, he actually came across really well, and seems like a nice guy. Having said that, his previous radio time with Colm Hayes was absolutely terrible. 2FM threw him in there to try and save the slot (instead of replacing Colm Hayes with another experienced radio presenter). Eventually it failed, and they were indeed replaced by an experienced radio presenter, who seems to be doing well in the slot.

How do Today FM think it will be any different for them? He will need a serious team behind him to make any sort of shot at it, but even at that, his busy schedule is surely going to interfere.

Ultimately, it's not a good sign when the new presenter is unveiled on a national station and in their opening interview they say "It's my first time doing a radio show on my own, so I hope the listeners can bare with me"

She's not awful now, seems to have more freedom in the music choice and her inane chatter/"bantz" is greatly decreased.....I Think she was put into the wrong positition at the time

I really enjoy her show now when i get a chance to listen. She plays some really good music too.

I'd say unlistenable from 6am-4.30pm to be honest.

At least you like the first hour of Paula's show then.

I can see Ian replacing Ronan Collins on RTE Radio 1 and Ronan Collins replacing Gaybo on Lyric at weekends

Once Anton left, combined with the mandatory 30 sec ad on tunein radio it stopped me listening to TodayFM for the most part. I still always listen to Matt Cooper, just about, nothing wrong with his show but again that repeated advert on tunein app is not doing the station any favors.

It seems to be only that station that gets the constant ads. Am i right?
I dont get it when I listen to radio 1 etc

Actually listenership figures went up for 2fm drive after Porter joined Hayes and fell again by 7000 after himself and hayes were taken off.

Facebook fallout has turned pretty negative after an initial mixed reaction, but then, it's Facebook. People are always going to bitch and moan in the wake of a decision. It'll die down like the Anton furorè did.

I'm trying to suppress my own opinion on the appointment, because I don't think I'm the type of person they're aiming for with the show, which is fine.

I genuinely hope it works out. I'm sure there were people in 2005 (I think) who were saying replacing Phil Cawley with Ray Foley on lunchtimes was the death of the station, and that worked out pretty well.

I'm actually curious about the ad on TuneIn. I'm getting the impression it's the stations have to pay TuneIn to get rid of it, because the BBC stations don't have it, but almost all the Irish ones do.

(And the stations don't get revenue from it btw, or at least the station I work for doesn't)

I guess the threasd title is not misleading. There have been pretty major changes in 2017 thus far.

Does that ad just play once, when you connect? or is it the same for everyone that it constantly reconnecting thus playing the ad repeatedly? I was blaming my internet connection for the constant reconnecting!

Seems like the most logical place for Dempsey to go if he were to leave Today Fm, he is too old for 2fm and too expensive for the likes of 4fm & Nova. Darcy replacing Mooney would have seemed a lot more unbelievable 3 years ago.

Think that's your internet tbh. I've never had that issue on TuneIn. (I have had it with Today FM's website and their own app though... :P )

Moderator: we get that you're not a fan of the decision to bring in Porter but you need to cool your jets.

    Thanks.

That ad is so grating. It's not just on tunein, it's also on the Irish Radio App too.

Bar Paul McLoone, I'm done with Today FM. I'm a lone worker in the community, radio is like a colleague to me. I've acutely felt the loss of TXFM, Dermot and Dave in the lunchtime slot was some solace, though on the whole their music was dire. I'm left with nothing now during my working day, until Dublin City FM in the evening. I've tried streaming 8radio.com via my phone onto my car radio but it's a bit of a disaster not to mention eating phone battery and data.

I am not exaggerating when I say I despair.

Is it an indictment of TXFM or of Today FM, that when a station in the same group closes with the loss of an entire roster of DJs, they had to (or felt they had to) poach a comedian from RTE with limited radio experience (and who's experience mainly consists of being a sidekick on a drive-time show with Colm Hayes which utterly tanked) to fill a prime slot?

Its pathetic that Irish radio stations are unable to locate female presenters of any sort for peak hour shows. Its at the point of being ridiculous.

Absolutely. Cathal Funge or Joe Donnelly could very well have flourished in that slot (as could Claire Beck, who capably bucks the "annoying female presenter" trend but is gone travelling afaik)

Mod: Banned for 24 hours for continually making personal attacks and ignoring a mod warning.

Folks, criticising the decision is fine. But out and out flagrant abusiveness or petty name-calling will not be tolerated.

Not sure about Tunein on a desktop or laptop but on a android phone it is the same 30sec ad each time you connect to Todayfm. That is bad enough but leaving a wifi area into a 3g/4g area, the ad repeats and vice versa once there is a connection change.

That put me back in my box! :D Unreal that the figures went up.. Colm and Al were painful to listen to. Really some of the worst radio I can remember..

Although I don't enjoy Eoghan McD either, at least he has radio success and experience previously.
