Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What's this new metal night in Bruxelles of a Thursday? Thought metal was finished with?

Just a DJ playing some Rock/Metal does not a rock bar make.

They really are getting desperate now.

Not to knock a new metal club, but "Nocturnal Nights". I think all nights are nocturnal.

Also "playing everything from Metallica to Iron Maiden" doesn't seem like a huge scope, but having more option for rock/Metal music in Dublin isn't a bad thing, I guess. We're pretty flush with options, on Thursdays alone.

Between the pubs/ clubs, DME putting on huge names, we have a decent scene here.

I just can't understand midweek club things. A lot of people including myself work and need to be up early during the week.
Might be ok if yer in college or whatever but doesn't work for me at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,347 ✭✭✭✭Grayditch

It all depends on what Bruxelles are happy with. If they think they can just have a rock crowd back just like that, they could be in for a disappointment.

If this night doesn't plan on catering for students, which involves playing must after 2005, Kerrang T.V hits and NEW METALLICA, as well as dropping drink prices, then the best they can hope for is post-gig groups looking for a drink after a show.

They're possibly the furthest "metal night" from Voodoo/On The Rox, Academy, Three Arena, geographically, so... they'll need some amount of promotion, I guess.

I used be one of them. Indeed i do drink at home and at gigs and various other pubs but Bruxelles can do one.

There was still a late 20's/early 30's contingent in Bruxelles up until a few years ago

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,168 ✭✭✭Grahamer666

When they started dictating to the DJ's what they could and couldn't play and hiked the price of their disgusting pints that's when i called time on it. I started drinking there when i was a teenager and used love the place. (I'm in my mid forties now).

It left alright. After the redecoration a couple years ago. Jukebox was removed and resident DJ's departed.

It was an insult to have Phil statue outside the door :(

Haven't been in quite some time but saw various social media posts, GnR press conference, fans drinking with Disturbed etc and it being referred to as Dublins #1 rock bar either they want to try appease that tag or just bluffin'.

Hard to keep up with the thread sometimes. It's on, it's off, it never left etc.. :)

I've been twice in recent months and both nights being a friday and there was a metal DJ all night, took requests and played them pretty much straight away, it was deadly!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,347 ✭✭✭✭Grayditch

I know that practically all the bars and clubs are doing a Black Sabbath "aftershow" on Friday including Bruxies. The DJ on there that night is very friendly.

Yer man just likes to be especially negative and dismissive of the place!

Apart from Fibbers, Gypsy Rose and O'Reillys.... is that it for rock bars really? I suppose Cassidys, Pmacs and Blackbird play good tunes too(bonus stinger bars)... But has anywhere new popped up?

Sin é usually has a decent mix of Rock/Metal/Alternative on Saturday nights after the live bands.

You mean The Pint? That's long gone.

On the Rox,Bruxelles has odd nights now only I think

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,347 ✭✭✭✭Grayditch

Lafayette's on D'Olier st has Thursday and Saturday rock/metal clubs. O'Reilly's is Saturday only and some speciality night, after shows etc.
The Gypsy Rose isn't um... an option anymore.

On The Rox is long gone too. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,347 ✭✭✭✭Grayditch

On The Rox still has a few planned gigs with DME and others, anyway. https://www.facebook.com/pg/On-The-Rox-1452952008340978/events/?ref=page_internal

No club nights I don't think, though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,148 ✭✭✭Passenger

They still do the odd small gig but as far as it being a Rock Bar, that is long gone.

    Ah, oh well

The Gypo is awful these days, I noticed they did up the basement in Fibbers recently or at least since I was last down there.

Lafayette is grand even times its not a particular night as such kinda has indie/mainstream rock playing which is imo more tolerable than your run of the mill boozer. Cassidys only a stones throw away too.

They posted on Facebook that they’re closed for refurbishment for a few weeks...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,080 ✭✭✭✭Big Nasty

Did they not refurb a couple years back?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,347 ✭✭✭✭Grayditch

I'm just saying closing for renovations a week before Halloween, the 'Christmas' of the rock scene, with bands booked in is not a good sign.

    I could be wrong.

Yeah, you were right. Seems it has been sold and will be reopening as something else.

Shame all the same. A Cassidys style spot to come, I'd imagine.

So is Bruxelles gone as a rock/metal bar as we know it?

Lived out of that place on Thursdays and Saturdays over the years

How many times does this have to be asked? Yes! Go and check it out for yourself for confirmation.

    No that's fair enough

However 5 or 6 times a year a random metal night is advertised there with a random DJ leading people to believe it's gone rock/metal again

Only one way to find out for sure - forget what people say and go have a gander for yourself. ;)

I went in for the first time in years last month on a Saturday and they were playing Slayer on the jukebox anyway.
