Just saw this on Cherry Sue's FB page with that picture that's doing the rounds of the guy sprinkling hearts or glitter or whatever (I can't post a screenshot from my phone, sorry!)- I don't really know what she means by it??

When I see Bloggers #Ad because it means they're unapologetically making BANK for the work they do!

She means that by being honest and using "#ad" they can make money from blogging and still keep their integrity. It means they're getting paid for the work they put into their blog, which is absolutely ok.

She has no issue with people making money from blogging (and I agree), but it should always be declared so that readers know exactly where they stand (plus it should also be declared for tax purposes). Transparency is key.

It may be a pain, but if your job is promoting something, typing #ad on a snapchat isn't a big deal IMO.
In comparison to what they are getting out of the transaction, you'd think the majority of them would jump at the chance to disclose considering they pride themselves on being a '#GirlBoss'

Considering each snap is 10 seconds long and if they are snapping for a few mins adding #ad to ever snap must be a pain. I imagine that's why most of them don't do it, I wouldn't think its them being snakey, though I could be wrong!

They could easily get around that by saying "this is an ad". Either way they need to let their viewers know! Typing two letters on the screen isn't that hard of a task! They do it to be sneaky and try to sell you something dressed up as them being your buddy. No other reason.

Also, they are well able to say when something is not an ad, and almost pat themselves on the back for it, so they are more than able to say when something is.

Anyone see the Snaps today from the escape room thing? Rosemary #ad while James Kavanagh (who even wore a camera) did not... hmm

I don't think I've ever seen James use #ad in any of his Snaps. Now I don't watch them every single day, but would watch his full story at least 3 times a week. There are so many businesses and products he's so clearly promoting, but never seems to declare it.

I see the appeal with him and he seems like a lovely lad but I had to stop following him for that very reason you mention. He used to promote tons of stuff but never in all the time I followed him did he ever disclose anything as being an ad.

Some one has said it before, a few people I think have actually. If they are able to put a filter on every snap which takes more then a few seconds they can type #ad!

If they only received payment when the #ad was used then you know they'd never forget to use it or consider it hassle!!!

Pippa is at it again today with the array of Bourjois and Rimmel products without a hashtag in sight.

A blogger who always discloses when a product is sent to her, if it's a press release, was gifted, if a salon or spa visit, dinner or hotel stay was disclosed as being a guest/invited - ok that's all above board. And actually writes log posts. Again ticking all boxes.

But if all her blog posts are the above, all are gifted, freebies etc. Doesn't seem to purchase items worthy of a review? I followed a blogger like that - the blog posts were good, nice photography, it just got to the stage where I thought the only reason you reviewed this product is because it was sent to you, you don't part with your money for products. And towards the end I found myself scrolling to the bottom of her review first for the disclosure and then this was colouring my reading of the blog post.

Sorry I'm probably waffling but TL:DR - if I blogger properly disclosed ads/free items but only blogged about these would you still follow?

I can 100% guarantee you that my readers would have no intention of going. My readers are based in Dublin. This hotel was outside of Dublin and anyone I've ever mentioned it to since has said "where??".

Edit: In fact, someone just pm'd me and then followed up with "Never heard of it" :D

believe it or not , people do travel outside Dublin , and guess what, they stay in hotels outside Dublin too!! So you would let people waste their hard earned cash and their time on a place that was horrible ! and you call yourself honest?? which blogger did you say you were????

Agreed. I think the reason they don't do it is because it will disappear after 24 hours anyway so it will be hard for the ASAI or anybody to catch them so the lazily leave it out

And it's so stupid to think that ASAI won't see it. For example: Amrezy's snaps last night. People took videos of them. It's really easy to do. So thinking that it's gone in 24hours really isn't the case anymore.

So Sue Me was on snapchat saying they can't find a hotel in Belfast with a ballroom. What in the actual hell? How can you not find a hotel in Belfast with seats for a few hundred people.
A few of them do this though.
Is this to get hotels to offer the use of the room and a bedroom in exchange for a few snaps about it? Or do they actually pay the hotels I wonder.
If not then the entire price of the ticket is going straight ito the bloggers hands which is incredible!

I wonder does anyone ever tweet her and the companies or Snapchat her and to say it to her.

I know this is off topic but does anyone know what happened to the event planned by Maeve Madden and Shauna Lindsay?
    http://www.ilovelimerick.ie/2016/bff-beauty-fitness-fashion/

It looks to me like it didn't go ahead but no mention of it anywhere??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 697 ✭✭✭Cria

Faces by grace promoting miss fit skinny tea again no #ad.
Also giving the balm a mention on how amazing the product was it was clear to see it kicks up a lot of powder she conveniently left that out.

Ya I didn't think they had a significant following to warrant a factory style show

    Who do they think
    They are charging them prices.
I don't just mean these two girls I mean like so sue and Rosie Connolly and even the goss awards.
Who are the people Silly enough to pay these prices.

    Yep, spot on.

Yes and it happens quite frequently. "Snap/tweet me with suggestions for xyz" and i guarantee they're getting people/companies in that industry contacting them with offers in exchange for coverage.

Unless there is a massive event in Belfast on the weekend she is looking, I'm calling pure BS on Sue not being able to find 1 hotel with a ballroom/events room big enough for her workshop thing. Shes definitely looking for a freebie or deal.

Dont get me started on those workshops/fashion factories....

Ugh! It's this kind of Don't you know who I am attitude that makes me literally cringe.
Marissa Carter was doing the for those asking, my coat is from Vero Moda.
Then a PR rep told her that the coat wouldn't actually be in stores until August and she seemed reluctant to admit that the coat was sent to her.
I really just wish they'd stop pretending. Personally, I think it's worse than saying 'I was sent'. Sure who'd begrudge you a baby pink coat with a fur trim hood! ;)

Agreed in fairness I don't mind bloggers being sent new products well in advance of them being available to buy in shops/online. I just wish they would admit that they get sent a lot of products to promote in their snaps/social media on a regular basis. Even adding #ad shouldn't be a big deal to do, but those who just plain refuse to emphasise just what a grey area it still is.

I agree that's why it's done. I mean it would only take half an hour for a secretary/admin/pa to do a quick search on google, trip advisor or hotels.com and filter the hotel search and narrow down to say 3 places. Ring each of them for availability and negotiations. An hour later venue booked! That's too much like hard work methinks!
