Rang the GameStop store I had chosen for the click and collect and they said they would have no record of the pre order on their system and would only know of the pre order on release when they get a print out.

I'm still undecided about getting it at launch but I'd get in touch with the store you pre ordered online with if you 100% want it on launch day.

This sounds like Online preorders are handled separately before launch by adding numbers to consoles shipped to that store. So two of three days before release the shipment arrives, they get a printout of preorders, separate them then have the remaining for in store preorders and reg stock.

I don't work for Gamestop but did and have for pretty much every other retailer at some point. It's the only thing that makes sense.

The no record in store for preorders online could be due to the two systems being kept separate, the online ones being part of one shipment the offline being store system based and they would have a figure.

They probably even have a set amount set aside for online preorders and another for store stock/instore preorders .

Grr... Smiths will only let me pre order the console but not Zelda yet. I'll just pre order that online then.

The form factor of the system, the franchises that have done well for Nintendo on both their handheld and home consoles, these are games that, alone, will sell a lot of systems.
And a big system in Japan will make for a higher profile in the west, with the titles as mentioned having an impact worldwide, from Dragon Quest to Monster Hunter, from Resident Evil to Fire Emblem.
Me, I can't wait to see what Kirby game is incoming, after loving both titles for the 3DS.

I like the idea of the switch and I think it's a nice looking piece of kit but I'm not going near it anytime soon.

I think the price is fine actually, I'm fairly sure I paid around €300 for a 3dsxl, although that did come with mario land.

I've preordered Zelda on the wii u. Hopefully they didn't do a hyrule warriors job on it where it's unplayable on the old tech. The e3 footage from last June looked promising.

This time next year if the line up looks decent I'll probably take the plunge. It'll be hard to resist when mario come out. Begs th question why didn't they wait six more months to have a decent line up of original games?

Cos it was supposed to be out in November and they had to release by the end of the fiscal year. Supposedly anyway.

They should have marketed it as a handheld instead of "home console first."

that'd make sense alright but I wanted to be able to pay off a bit at a time so the online pre order didn't suit me.

if that was made clear either in the confirmation e-mail or in store I would have been happier.

that's interesting as GameStop were a bit pushy trying to get me to preorder a game with it.

I'm holding off to see if GS release bundles

Ive ordered them separately, in the same store. Dunno why they decided you cant pre order both at the same time.

Pre-ordered online on Gamestop and kinda worried that it will go through for day 1. Weird that it was a €5 deposit rather than the €50 in store. Wondering if I should just go with Smyths.

So whats all this about GameStop asking for a €50 deposit in store? I pre-ordered mine a couple of weeks ago for €20. No one has rang me about it.

Looks like Gamestop in the States have sold out of their preorder allocation (across 3,900 stores).
I suspect if you haven't preordered here yet, you may have trouble getting one on March 3rd.

Has anyone who did the €5 pre-order online with Gamestop been in touch with them since?

Some people earlier in the thread did, might be worth popping in to ask them what the situation is.

Noticed on Amazon, Switch is showing as unavailable. I pre-ordered the day it was announced and used parcel motel so hopefully I will get one.

Digital foundry aren't impressed. They think it's good as a portable games device but poor as a home console.

I didn't know they are using the Street Fighter 2 game from the Xbox 360 and charging $40 for it... Wow.

That's a major concern for me, I categorically won't using as a mobile gaming device :(

After watching that I am certainly worried about the capabilities of the switch.

Why? Won't be able to watch it till tomorrow but what were their main concerns?

    Watched the video there.

Yeah they seem underwhelmed by the home console aspect of it. Basically saying there is not a huge difference graphics wise between Switch games and Wii U games.

They were really impressed with the handheld aspect of it though. Wii U quality games on the go is really impressive they said.

Makes you wonder why they didn't market this as a 3DS successor that you can play on your TV. Surely the next logical step for the their handheld would be Wii U quality graphics.

Both of them did enjoy "Arms' though so not sure what to think of their opinion now :P

The worst part of it was the treehouse presentation hyping it up as a brand new game

Very early days but that's the impression it's giving - it looks like a premium handheld that will also act as a home console with the same as or slightly better performance than the Wii-U. It shouldn't be marketed as the other way around imo.

Even though I'll only be using it as a home console (whenever I take the plunge), I'm still not sure if it's performance will bother me or not - it depends on what type of games they plan to bring to it I guess. I'd imagine/hope that first party games will run great on it and that's really all I buy a Nintendo machine for. Never had any issue with the performance of the Wii-U games.

I'm glad the build quality looks very good and it seems those joy-cons also handle better than they look. A pro controller would be a must buy for me though. Looks like a really nice bit of kit. :)

Any indication how easy or hard it will be to replace the battery? The USB port makes mobile battery charges the main option when travelling but I always found it nice to carry a second battery for my PSP back in the day.

Damn I did the online preorder back at the start of December, I'm not sure the next time i'll be able to get down to gamestop to see what the story is.

I am a bit late to the party, due to busy work schedule, but I managed to watch that presentation and that digital foundry video. So just my 2cents.

I am getting a feeling it will end up for me same way when I bought first 3ds on launch. I will have a cool device with nothing to play on it. Trade it in, then pick it up after almost 2 years and playing bejaysus of monster hunter, then putting it away until next one.

None of the games interested me at all and I was expecting to see a lot more local multiplayer games. Even something like Nintendo land when wii u launched.
Right now I like the aspect of handheld and it would be the most form I would use it. At home in bed, while misses watched TV or reads. Or just when I have my normal insomnia and I don't want to play ps4 in bed while sje tries to sleep. The docked TV mode would be fun to play for all all 3 of us. Local multiplayer, which 7 year old would love when me and misses would play with her.
I agree with digital foundry. Nintendo again ****ed up with marketing and in a way pricing. It should have been handheld with ability to connect to tv. At 300eu plus it's a **** TV console when you cam pick up ps4 and xbox one for same or cheaper with games. Those two have very mature library and lots of sales with decent pricing. Nintendo games always very expensive.

Bottom line is: my birthday is in March and I wanted to get switch, but now I will hold off it until a game I want appears on it, Monster hunter. Until then I am buying third controller for ps4 or xbox one and my family will play games together.
Nintendo became Amd of console world...
