Looks like Gamestop in the States have sold out of their preorder allocation (across 3,900 stores).
I suspect if you haven't preordered here yet, you may have trouble getting one on March 3rd.

Pre-ordered online on Gamestop and kinda worried that it will go through for day 1. Weird that it was a €5 deposit rather than the €50 in store. Wondering if I should just go with Smyths.

Ive ordered them separately, in the same store. Dunno why they decided you cant pre order both at the same time.

that's interesting as GameStop were a bit pushy trying to get me to preorder a game with it.

The form factor of the system, the franchises that have done well for Nintendo on both their handheld and home consoles, these are games that, alone, will sell a lot of systems.
And a big system in Japan will make for a higher profile in the west, with the titles as mentioned having an impact worldwide, from Dragon Quest to Monster Hunter, from Resident Evil to Fire Emblem.
Me, I can't wait to see what Kirby game is incoming, after loving both titles for the 3DS.

Monster Hunter will be huge on this given the gyroscopic possibilities while battling monsters in handheld mode. Resident Evil too if you are walking down a corridor and the console in handheld mode is treating your movement in real time meaning a monster could be following you from behind but if you turn about it is in front of you, some great possibilities for games such as these and project zero/fatal frame too.

that would make it seem like the people who have paid the €50 deposit would get preference over the click and collect ones.

unless the click and collect orders aren't taken from the individual stores allocated consoles.

Yeah if you're looking for launch get in and pre order asap. There's huge shortages with only 2m units worldwide.

There's also 4 high profile RPGs coming to the system that will be exclusive and Dragon Quest XI, which points towards Japan getting on board with this as the new handheld.

Also lets not under estimate how big a deal Dragon Quest XI is for Japan. It's the most popular gaming franchise in Japan and has cache with both the young and old over there. It might also be coming to the PS4 but the PS4 is a disaster in Japan and the small, tidy form factor of the switch is far more appealing to the Japanese audience due to cramped living space and the commuter nature of life in Japan.

I think they should hold off on release a dock-less Switch, at least at the moment. I think it will confuse your average person, especially mams and dads and the less confusion surrounding this the better. It certainly didn't help the Wii U.

In regards to successor tot 3DS Reggie has confirmed this isn't the successor to 3DS but instead it's next home console. The line up for 3DS will be announced at E3

Regarding expectations for Mario Odyssey, there has never been a terrible Mario 3D platformer, even the poorest rated one, Super Mario Sunshine, is streets ahead of anything on it's console peers.
I don't think we'll have anything to fear from the game, even with the "real world" hub it appears to have, the actual levels appear to be pure Mario challenge and fun.

I'd go so far as to say Other M was a good game. The writing and the story though were absolute ball bags.

Metroid has never sold that well for Nintendo and isn't that popular in Japan, mostly selling in the West.

I don't know what it is and it looks weird but it's a Nintendo EAD game and everything they touch turns to gold so I have high hopes for it.
