As a kk supporter im not to bothered about the league.just looking hor some of the talent bubbling under to push through.that and the return of ger and mick should see us
bang there again.kk supporters really looking forward yo this year.

have you any views on what the full back line might be?

Murphy obviously but it will be a big ask to replace the other two in one league campaign.

No1 really knows except the management team and thats what makes it so interesting for us supporters.Paul murphy, buckley and padraig walsh are 3 certainties but we won't know if he'll persist with joyce and holden at the spine of the team until later in the year.If holden is left at 3 he'll have to get more protection.I'd expect 3 newcomers this year to try and fit into the team

McGrath states he is not going for the league this year and that this year's winter training is reflecting that. He said he is going to try out a few new guys but we won't knw til the kilkenny game. Getting Relegated or being in the relagation playoff would be a disaster and as 1A is very competitive a min of 3 wins is a must for a qf place

This league campaign may give us a chance of finally winning a game in Croke Park when we play Dublin there in round 3. It's a good bonus for us Waterford fans to get a game in Croke Park this early (and a chance to see a repeat of last years football final on the same night too)

A lot of sense being spoken by Give It Fong and Blueflame. Attack is the best form of defence. We will never win an All Ireland with this management team.

The problem with our team is that we are very slow to change an underperforming team or a player. You'd nearly know the championship team after two league games. Like was posted here the best way to develop newcomers is to have experienced guys with them. Any new forward would love to have the brick around them throwing a ball out for a confidence boosting score.

    True

What team would you put out for the opening league game ???

Think all teams in div 1 want to stay there.after that everything is a bonus.as for kk full back line I think we will stick with joey but change pender
Just my opinion.lennon will be tried at centre back and also think jason cleere will be given a run allong with evan coady.upfront we still have plenty of options with the likes of walsh bolger maher and ger coming back to add to walter colin tj richie kelly blanch

I don't know per say but I'd like to rest a few ( brick, Moran, Connors) . like to have three full forwards at all times.

Well it's not like that at all its January number one they were looking at new players from Waterford not what club your from. Are you trying to suggest that this management team sees the east as a hurling stronghold which is ridiculous. I can guarantee all the management team see is players not clubs isn't it great that smaller clubs are getting looked at and that the days of having to transfer completely gone.

As a county we really need to move on from this bloody east west bias I support Waterford I don't just support the lads from where I am from. You might be here on the wind up but even to think this is what is holding us as a county.

The best thing we have done in recent years is make the under 14 16 and minor all county if only we follow suit with junior and intermediate and eventually get rid of the divisional boards. It seems to be people clinging to what ever little can get. It's 2017 we need to start moving on at this stage.
Couldn't agree more. You have me all wrong anyway btw

On the fullback thing, I think Coughlan will remain first choice as long as the system remains in place. He hasn't done much wrong over the past 2 years (arguably he gets a lot of protection from due to the bodies around him). But if we take a more attacking approach I think he will be exposed.
For me the glaring long term solution is to bring TDB back there. He has played there at underage and colleges level and he is the nearest thing we have to a natural full back. He had an outstanding year in the sweeper role in 2015 but last year the cat was out of the bag a bit and he was closed down very quickly, as a result his confidence dipped and so did his form. Half back line will not be an issue for us in the coming years, but fullback will be.  He certainly has the attributes to be a long term full back and could be the one to plug this hole that has really been open since the nearly naughties.

Never ceases to amaze me the staunch opinions formed in January, not just on about Waterford here either.

No offense meant here Blueflame, but saying you wouldn't read too much into the game and then writing four paragraphs about why it was very disappointing is a bit contradictory.

This doesn't get enough credit I think when people talk about the underage successes. Even say the thought of going from one of the County to the other playing teams I think is something young fellas find exciting and definitely raises the standard across all groups. Extra games obviously a big plus too.

Long term i question TDB place on the team...
Imo while good rrader of the game....decision making is erratic at times....and deffo has a favoured hand.....and could be exposed for pace

But if was up to me atm...id love to see a HB line of dara five, gleeson and de burca

Everyone a ball winner and powerful.....a full back line of fives, couglan and conor gleeson....

Imo thats the strongest defemders wanlterford have atm (connors prob better but questions over his pace??)

I can't see us beating Kilkenny in Nowlan Park on the 12 Feb for the start of the league. Kilkenny are going to go for this league and are out too prove a point, where they may be too strong for our lads. The week after we play Tipp at home which could go either way depending on how interested Tipp are in the league (the last 3 league games vs Tipp we won 2/3).

kk have never gone for the league, not officially anyway, this is like limerick and clare going for the munster league, if you have that attitude yyoure at a loss already consolation prizes are no prizes

News and Star had a write up about all the management changes in Senior clubs this year but it was very poor. No real information. Was like something you'd do as homework. No thought into it just hand something in cos the idea was good.
The article could have been very good and was great to see them trying to raise a bit of interest in the club scene at this time of year. But as I said there was no substance to the article. The way it was written they could just as easily listed the clubs with the names of new management beside them.

Some huge scores from teams today in the hurling

    Walsh Cup round 2
    Laois 4-27 DIT 1-17, Rathdowney - FT
    Kilkenny 6-27 Antrim 0-19, Abbottstown - FT
    Westmeath 1-14 DCU 0-13, Kinnegad - FT
Carlow 0-14 Wexford 3-19, Netwatch Cullen Park
Offaly 3-14 IT Carlow 0-23, Birr - FT
Meath 1-19 Kildare 1-18, Pairc Tailteann - FT

    Munster SHL round 2
Limerick 1-16 Cork 7-18, Gaelic Grounds
Kerry 1-14 Clare 2-17, Austin Stack Park

We really really need to be scoring like some of the teams playing today, we certainly have the players. Next game is Cork in mallow next weds night

Footballers lose to Limerick 0-9 to 0-7 in the McGrath cup

Limerick shipped 7 goals against Cork. After scoring 0-17 without reply against us it really shows you can't pay much heed to any result this time of year

Fair comment, i did go on a bit, - however in my defence, my comments were less about the game and individual performances and much more to do with the team set up and selection - while games or results at this time of year may not mean much, especially given the condition of pitches and the stage that training programmes are at, - the fact is there seems to be no attempt from management to change the approach whatsoever and this to me is very alarming -

Played a strong enough team against Offally up in Tinryland last Wednesday night.
Playing Cork in Mallow on Wednesday a good few lads being left out of this one and almost sure we play a challenge the weekend against Cuala.

What was the score in the Offaly game ???

looking at the pre seasons cups are the college teams really bad or are teams like Laois, Offaly, Westmeath etc after improving a lot ???. Laois scored 4-27 yesterday vs DIT and 3-18 last weekend against NUIG

Kilkenny beat Antrim 6-27-0-19 and a lot of the big guns were playing. This signals they will name a strong team against us for the league opener on the 12th Feb
