I have three dogs, honestly if it came down to it we'd be eating you op (well same as all the stuff we kill I'd eat the good bits like your bum and legs and I'd slow cook your shoulders and arms, but the dogs would get your heart and lungs and liver and kidneys and all the gristley bits. The cats would get your brain and other pryon bits and then we'd boil your bones for stock)

Knew of a lady who died alone in a council flat in the UK. By the time she found her, her feet and legs had been eaten by her cat.... The social worker who told me said, " She would not have minded at all.."

I feel the same way, looking at the three well fed cats atop my bed.

Dogs can survive on a vegetarian diet. Cat's can't.

So in theory dogs could have a very low impact.

But we live in Ireland where cattle are grass fed , so our meat and dairy products have low carbon impact. If you want empty calories then cereal has the lowest carbon footprint, but you need protein and other stuff and it turns out that veg may be worse at carbon simply because you need to so much more of the stuff to provide it.

Also cat's tend to be smaller than dogs. A wolfhound feed on steak will bleed you wallet dry.
