So they off loaded season 1 of the annual. Shame, I thought they'd have to go and get the leftover stuff pulped.

Yeah, I always like his stuff on LOI or the FAI.

McDonnell is terrible. Offers no real insight. On the rare occasions that I listen to the show, I turn it off if he's co-hosting.

Eh, are we talking about OTB or Second Captains now? This is the second captains thread right?

    Brian Kerr.

Dion Fanning is also far more insightful on the FAI.

    I really didn't like Vol.1 so didn't get vol.2 this year.

I can't say I've noticed this drop-off, OK, the 90's book guy wasn't the most interesting of guests but in general I don't think there has been any decline in quality.

On reflection that's absolutely fair, I think my view has just been coloured by over-familiarity and the relentless plugging of the book recently!

The plugging of the book is fair enough, but I just wish they'd say "The book is out, it cost's €x, free delivery to Ireland and UK" instead of all the jokey, we're above plugging our wares sh*te. I can't imagine anyone begrudging them trying to sell a book.

I can't say I've noticed a drop in form recently, but I've always enjoyed their long form pieces and having on authors with different perspectives.
If all I wanted was the scores I'd look at teletext(is that still a thing?). I understand they have to strike a balance to keep as many people as possible happy though.

The all sports show tends to go to a bit stale for me this time a year, when the only non soccer games are rugby, but I'm sure plenty of people say that during the summer when it's %90 gaelic football and hurling.

I would have been more inclined towards buying the book if they didn't plug it insistently.

That history ended in 1996 segment was turgid

Got both Vol 1 & Vol 2 Annuals this year with that 20euro deal. Perhaps vol 1 was a little out of context this year but wasn't impressed with either book tbh. I get that they are going for a jokey jokey self-depreciating style but both books just seemed quite bland. Not like the podcast at all. Or perhaps that particular style just works better through the podcast medium.

I just see the book as a way to support the podcast. I think i flipped through it the day it arrived, read one comic strip and haven't opened it back up since. Something that would be more interesting to read in a years time anyway.

Ken, probably in ultra contrarian troll mode, talking out of his hoop about the Giroud goal.

Top, top WUMming from Ken. I wonder did he have in mind a particular individual whose head he wanted to melt.

Murph is a better foil for Ken when he's in contrary-for-pay/chuckles mode, IMHO

Decent football show but again an over dependence on analysis of manager's post match comments, in fairness Pep's strange behavior deserved analysis

I haven't listened to the show yet, I'm keeping it for my 3am drive home from work. I think the pep thing has been done to death now...I'm very bored of the subject anyway.

Listened to this and couldn't enjoy it. The two of them waffling on and on and on about nothing in particular.

Ken not telling him what team he supports. Away ta f**k...

Ken comparing Mike Dean to a 1920's silent movie slapstick comedy actor was the highlight of the Football show.

Murph and Ken are a good combo, sometimes when the three of them are on the Football show it can be a bit overcrowded, it works better with two voices, a straight man for Ken to bounce his mad theories off.

Absolutely loved Ken's interview with Jarlath

yeah i thought it was very good, Ken telling a bunch of journalism students to start a fake news site was funny. And also telling them to just get ahead by telling people in their articles what they already believe was fairly on the ball i thought. A lot of journalism follows such a mindset.

Also he discussed a bullsh*t Joe Brolly article that I alerted him to on twitter so was interested to hear him discuss that.

The issues of Trump and Apollo House were only discussed briefly thankfully.

I thought the interview was quintessential Ken and it also made me to feel to an extent that Ken's talents are wasted to some extent on the football show.

Yeah I thought the same - pity cos I expected that the long form interview would have suited him.

Had to fast forward past Miguel Delaney, lost patience.

The Irishman Abroad interview was fairly good - I get an illict thrill when I hear Ken cursing like a sailor. Jarlath is an awful bootlicker though - one of the main reasons I originally stopped listening to him back in the day. Says he spends hours supposedly listening the podcasts and yet it really sounded like he had never even heard of the Fairview when Ken mentioned it. Hmmmm.

Maybe it's not intentional but I always think he sounds like he's smarming all over his guests.Yuck.

Bit harsh on Jarlath. I dont think it sounded like he never heard of the Fair View, not sure where you picked up that feeling.

The what does he think of Brendan rogers and Steve Staunton bits didn't really go anywhere. I thought he should have asked him about Jose Mourinho as Ken and the rest of the SC lads seemed to have made up their mind that they absolutely hate him.

I also would have paid money for him to be asked does he ever envisage ever been back on Newstalk for a Sunday paper review or are those bridges totally burnt?

I thought it started off really slow, as if Ken didn't really know why he was there, or didn't want to be there.

But Jarlath brought him out and by the end I was laughing out loud at a few bits, particularly the part where he says that he was a chronic mansplainer in feckin primary school and the Johnny Giles bit
