    My liver,

    my scales,

    Eat less you greedy feck.
    and my bank balance

Shop in Aldi/Lidl and buy wine in boxes rather than bottles.

    Sheesh… amateurs.. :mad::D:D

The AA advise there is two (yes! TWO!!!11!! ) units of alcohol in beer and loads of calories

so....... whiskey is the answer, one unit of alcohol and half the calories
    My liver,

    1 Unit vs 2 Units
    my scales,

About 200 calories vs 100 calories

    I am in.

But only until the 28th. That last weekend in january is just too far away. Staying dry up to the 28th is a lot more doable.

Lord, no! Everything in moderation, including moderation.

Nope, I had enough cold turkey at Christmas :)

Actually I didn't drink too much this Christmas. January is one of those in between months where there isn't much going on so normally I wouldn't drink that much anyway. Ill still have a small few at home on the weekends and that.

If I can do a 10k before the summer I'd be delighted! Best of luck with the marathons :)

Jesus you absolutely could. If you're starting at the very start it would take a bit of work, but you defo could do that :)

Went out for lunch and was about to order a glass of wine when.... "fcuk it, that thread was a bad idea" :p

A wise old man tried to convince me that it shouldn't start until the 2nd but I thought it better to stick to my pledge.

I'm in. But I think on Feb 1st it'll be case of:

    Marge, I'm goin' to Moe's.
Send the kids to the neighbors.
    I'm comin' back loaded.

But I need a break from the booze. I only drink light beer and I don't go on benders, but I do drink too frequently and the numbers add up quickly.

Don't forget everybody, if you feel the cravings kick in, have a pint of fizzy orange or something...the coldness, bubbles, and sugar will help quench that thirst.

My beloved thought it was a great idea to have a hot mulled wine with lunch. The smell of it was just divine.
But temperance wins. Only 27 1/2 days to go.

I finished the 4 bottles last night so going to give this a lash. Going out tonight to a comedy show in Dublin so I'm bringing the car and staying on the britvic55.

It's probably worse for you than beer however. I find non alcoholic beers work as a good placebo for me, the Erdinger one isn't bad, but they're bloody expensive.

You're right, but good luck drinking 8 pints of rock shandy, wouldn't be possible. But I mean in the early days of abstinence...your body will be screaming for the lost sugar and calories, if you regularly drink beer...so treat yourself to the Fanta and peanuts, will help for sure for the first few days off the sauce.

I drink way too much but when I quit for a week or whatever I don't seem to get any cravings for sugar etc.
Why does beer have to be so delicious, a few frosty bottles would really soothe my hangover right now...

Mi Wadi with San pellegrino in a wine glass was my drink of choice when I trained for the last marathon. Only fooling myself of course but it worked!

Be very rare I'd drink a soft drink.

San P is for fairies, the bubbles aren't harsh enough. The cheap tesco stuff etc tends to have giant bubbles that cut the throat off you. Sparkling water seems to be love or hate with people.

Dry January, meh. Why make an already miserable month even more miserable with a half assed pledge to convince yourself you don't have a drink problem or some nonsense like that? Most people don't last.

Everything in moderation I reckon. Life is for living.

I'll be on crutches from mid-January and crutches and alcohol aren't a great combination, so I'm buggered if I'm going dry before then.

Admitting it is the first step.

Not sure what the next step is.

Dry January my ar$e. This is the best few days of the holidays for me, all the hosting and being hosted is done, nobody wants to go out the depressing pubs, time to hunker down and listen to some good music real loud, drink some drinks and actually relax for the first time in two weeks. Ignore all that January health advertising on the media noise box, just another way for companies to make further money once christmas is over. Never go from one extreme to the other, your balance will be f**ked
