After Hours' Dry January?

My liver, my scales, and my bank balance have suggested that I try a dry January.

I'm perfectly capable of not drinking, I just happen to love a nice wine or drop of whiskey!

I spent a good chunk of last year on the dry but made up for it in 2016 so think it's time for a break.

Anyone else giving it a go?

Yeah it's the birthdays that get you. There's the option of not drinking booze if you're out but of course you'll probably be nagged to take a drink.

    my scales,
    Eat less you greedy feck.
    and my bank balance
Shop in Aldi/Lidl and buy wine in boxes rather than bottles.

    Sheesh… amateurs.. :mad::D:D

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I'll be in Eastern Europe for four days later in January and I don't plan to be sober for a single second of those four days.

I will eat less also as well :p

I actually have loads of drink there so I wouldn't have to buy much but I feel it would be beneficial for me to not drink for a few weeks :D

Also means if I go out on nights out I'll drive and save taxi fares!

Dry January? Ah FFS, I barely get the chance to have one bottle of beer a night over a weekend what with a 2 year old and a new job. My advice - get yourself a life, not a drinking habit. If you feel you need a dry month, just go off the stuff for good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,785 ✭✭✭KungPao

I did it once...worst month of my life.

Ah no. It was a good month. I remember sleeping very well after the first week, and being very chill. I suppose all the ups and downs with drinking mess with your chances of serenity.

Might do it again this January.

Match of the Day on Saturday nights wouldn't be the same without some Lidl whiskey buring the inside of my sad bastard mouth.

They help regenerate the liver, they are bought in health stores.

I don't think I would stick to a dry January so no point pretending that I will. I will though go back on low calorie alcohol to cut down on weight and avoid all takeaways and eat a lot more home cooked food. Good luck to anyone trying.

Sure I'll give it a go! I don't drink a huge amount but I could do without the expense, it's a long way to pay day!!

    What's the event?

I'm doing a triathlon in June, a half marathon in July, possibly another Tri in August, and hopefully a full marathon in October :/

    Ouch.

Or you could drink everything in sight for the next 5 minutes. It doesn't count as long as you drink it this side of New Year!

I've been sober for eight months. One more month won't kill me, and out of lack of choice (kinda), I'm in too.

    Just a powerlifting debut.

But it will no doubt precede some running or rowing event.

    I'm in.

I want to run a half marathon in a few months and possibly a full one in October. I just want to be fitter/healthier in general.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31,152 ✭✭✭✭KERSPLAT!

If I can do a 10k before the summer I'd be delighted! Best of luck with the marathons :)

Not much of a drinker but it might force me to become a bit more inventive than "Scoops?"

The only running I'll be doing is to the fridge to get some party food. Fair play to the fit folk.
