Flicked around a lot and listened to a few CDs. In the few times I flicked today Alison mentioned her child sleeping with her, vegetables and kale..... it was like Ray was again. As poor as Fergal Darcey is in the afternoons at least he's more tolerable then her.

    NO!

I just flicked on the podcast of her talking to Jarlath Reagen...he's giving his brother a kidney and shes asked if they were close!. what a question. I mean I know just becasue hes giving him a kidney doesn't mena they are best of pals but lets assume they are and don't ask such a ridiculous question! " no Alison I hate him , he's a bollock"

God it's awful... I've flicked in a few times and it seems to be just Alison and Anton's former production team having a twee old time...

"I was nearly clipped by a car today"
"Oh, so was I... 8 years ago"
"I don't like car parks, tell us why you don't like them too"

"Someone farted on a bus today"
"Yes, and someone had an egg in their bag.
    "ugh how disgusting"
"We don't eat eggs in Canada"

    "I like sweets at Christmas"
"me too, it's all aboot the sweets"
    "Mince pies are bad."

"Let's not read the front pages, they're too complicated and sad... oh look here's a survey on Page 20 that says women should sleep on the left side of the bed!"
"I sleep on all the bed"
"I prefer to sleep with my daughter than my husband. He farts and eats eggs!"
    "Girl power!"

Abysmal. If possible, it's worse radio than both Breakfast Republic AND Lottie Ryan put together. Today FM will need a big chequebook to pay for both a new presenter and some redundancies...

    LOL

That's the best summary of the show I've seen.

I doff my hat to you, sir.

To be fair Anton had the eating eggs on a bus story on his last week.
    She is absolutely atrocious though.

I think the timing here is actually good for Alison and lucky for Today fm. Christmas time, so a lot more off work than normal, kids home from school etc. It's already starting to feel like her Saturday show everyday.

Imagine this had blown up in October, when everyone is stuck in work crying out for distraction, and Anton's brilliantly quirky questioning. Today FM now have almost 3 weeks idle time to make sure they get their plans right. And they better, I find myself switching a lot more - and Christmas fm my default lifeboat, will be gone when January's drudge kicks in.

The way the posters are able to manipulate every post on the Today fm Facebook page into something about Anton is actually gas.
Here's a sample just from the past 24 hours. It's gas. I don't check the names to see is it the same people over and over though, probably is.

In fairness to Alison she was grand when she did the 7-9 show, playing some chart stuff and some indie stuff. No interviews, no kid stories.

Decent music and a bit of small talk and it was grand.

Its bad...and I have no faith that Today FM will choose well for the replacement...the management there seems to have gone to the dogs...bring back Willie O'Reilly!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 340 ✭✭lookitsme

barring some mat cooper in the evenings I have totally abandoned today fm. once a 7am to 7pm listener I have moved the dial down a smidge to radio nova and so far so good. good mix of music, music that I havent heard in years and forgot about but as soon as the songs start I feel the foot tapping then comes the whistling. the station isn't as polished as today fm but for the moment I will stick with it.

What is Willie o Reilly doing now?

I agree with what posters have said. I have zero faith in todayfm management considering what has happened to Anton and the little peak behind the curtain ray foley gave us. I'd bet that the one person that wasn't in favour of ray coming back is the common denominator in all this. That's just a guess from the little bits I've seen the past few weeks.

At the risk of requesting a long post, what exactly did Foley say?

Ian on the way in, in the morning. Dont even listen to the last of his show.
    Spotify/Podcasts until 12
    Dermot & Dave until 2:30
    Spotify until 4:30
The last word for the last hour in work/drive home.

Used to listen all day when Tony was on and Anton of course.

This post has most of it, plus he said that he felt the decision was made by like 4 people, and of those 4, 3 were "just business", but the 4th (who I get the impression is the key decision maker, make of that what you will) did it for personal reasons.

Up to you to decide whether Foley is a reliable narrator or not, but I'd recommend anyone here interested in the saga go and listen to the latest episode of NTN as it does deal with Anton leaving as well.

Sorry, NTN is "The Night Time Network", Foley's (infrequent) podcast. Here's the episode in question:

He's been Group Commercial Director at RTE the past 5 years apparently! Before that he was with Today FM for 11 years...always gave the impression he had his head screwed on as a boss but could have a laugh too...and the station was a runaway success during his time.

What part of the podcast does he talk about it? I'm 2 minutes 54 seconds in and can take no more. All it's serving to do is to remind me of what an immature, annoying asshat Foley is. With extra swearing and belching because that's big and clever.

Don't listen to it then...easy solution? It gets to the Today FM and Anton part somewhere from about half hour in I think.

Well if I didn't like someone I wouldn't be bothered listening to their podcast...then moan about listening to it and insult them. Just me tho. You are welcome for the answer to your question tho.

I don't like Foley but I want to hear what he has to say about it. I don't want to have to listen to an hour and a half of swearing and belching and drivel to get to what I want to hear. Anyway we're not going to agree on this. All I wanted was a simple answer.

Well he talks about it on and off from 30 mins in, not sure where exactly he gets to the meat of the discussion to be honest but worth a listen if interested about the dysfunction in Today FM management. And I think Alan belched not Foley...the podcast isn't meant to be high brow...just two mates having a chat every now and then. You got the answer so Happy Christmas!

Discussion starts at 27:40, then it goes on for about 40 minutes or so, going into why they left Today FM, why things went wrong at 98, and the story about the supposed job back at Today FM. There's a tangent in the middle about Al getting an engagement ring, but tbh just skim forward to find where the tangent ends if you're not interested in it.

The old saying if it isn't broke don't fix it comes to mind. Ray said at the end of the today fm show that when they started they were given a blank sheet and told to go from there. That was during willie o Reillys time.

It just seems like parts of the today fm management are trying to change the dynamic and tone of a radio station that was extremely successful and in the process is damaging the station.

It seems staff are walking on eggshells. And the pettyness of them not putting up the whole third hour of Antons show the day ray was on shows it. It seems that the brass can't take a laugh.
