I actually like Alison in her normal role which was on a Sat morning I think. A couple of minutes talking then a few songs, nothing deep or long. But she is not suited to a 3 hour mostly talk based show.

I was thinking exactly that this morning. I used to like her on the early morning show before Dempsey and then wherever she moved, I always liked the music she played and the light chat etc.

The magazine show with so much chat and interaction with different people is not what she's good at and she is being shown up in this slot. It's a real shame as she is perfectly good at her job but looks like a rank amateur now.

When is Anton back from holidays ?

Agree with the posts above. Alison is a good enough presenter, not my favourite by any means but more than capable at her job. Not inspiring in her current role though tbf.

That said, every presenter has their niche. Former TXFM listeners will remember how poor Joe & Keith were in the morning and how good Joe was in the afternoon on his own.

Presenters also evolve in their roles and one you hate listening to initially may often become one of your favourites. Anyone remember the 'Richie Ryan Wrecks My Head' thread on the Phantom forum?

He is gone from the airwaves. Get over it.

I bet he never had to depend on that gig for a living.

    But I wish him well.

Be interesting to see if he ever does a media gig again, or just sticks to the mammy and daddy PR business.

Haha, two sly digs at him yet wish him well, nice insincere post.

I had noticed every fb post being bombarded with bring anton back comments too.

Nadine O'Reagan was on with Matt Cooper earlier, along with Pascal O'Donoghue, who I will unashamedly admit I really enjoyed listening to, and I thought she was excellent. Would she ever be considered a candidate I wonder?

I liked Alison when she did The Last Splash back in the day. That might be the sort of show she's best suited to. I'd say the same thing about Tom Dunne. I thought he was awful when he had that morning radio show on Newstalk but now has a better late night program.

To me and this would be a personal issue view Alison's show on Saturday morning is horrendous. Constant babble about children and shout outs to 7 year olds dancing around the kitchen isn't my cup of tea. Therefore I'm biased already against her mid morning show now but the bottom line is Anton is a far far superior presenter to her. For those of us living away from the cities the choice of shows however bad is very limited. Mid morning radio is now dead to me.

This is the best description of how to use her, she's had a good play list when she used to cover the 7pm show for Colm Sullivan, and kept the chat/"banter" to a minimum, she's not suited for a talk show....Same could be said for Louise Duffy (whose grand when she has free reign of the music and cuts out the ramblings)

In fairness, they seem to have found a market nobody has captured before on Saturday and Sunday Breakfast...often it is parents hauling kids off to some activity or pottering around the kitchen etc. The show at the weekends has been successful for her and that is where she should, and most likely will, stay. She got thrown in the deep end as cover so can't be too harsh on her, she won't get the slot permanently and possibly doesn't want it either with a busy family life.

    Email I sent to todayfm- am sure it will fall on deaf ears, but felt I needed to have my 'spake!;

You must have your differences, but he is one of the ‘gems’! How and why is he not on Todayfm anymore?

We listen to Ian Dempsey on our way to work/school/college and look forward to Anton - his wit, humour and integrity - there is not another presenter to equal his talent.

I am so disappointed that you have made this decision - but please do know that today fm have now lost 6 listeners, in an age group ranging from 13-50. There is no reason to tune into todayfm.
I admire Alison Curtis for stepping up to the mark- but ……
From once the dial is tuned out from todayfm, there is no reason to tune back in.

Good luck to whoever fills those convivial boots…..

Yes, maybe they found one market but lost another.

I rarely, if ever, listen to that show on Saturday morning. Plus I think their lineup has lot a lot of its 'cogency' - whereas every radio I had was more often than not tuned to Today FM and I used the app when traveling, now I'm much more 'promiscuous' in my listening habits. Before, if I was working from home or driving to the other end of the country I could easily start listening to Today FM before 7 and still be listening 6 or 7 hours later, now I flick away from Dempsey and maybe flick back to D&D if nothing else is holding my attention on another station.

Maybe they have 'replaced' me with more listeners, but in my case with the loss of Anton's show it just means another few hours where I won't be listening to the station.

It says a lot about my own lifestyle choices that I cannot fathom why anyone who isn't a parent would be listening to the radio on Saturday/Sunday mornings! :pac:

As such, I hadn't even noticed that her show is particularly focused on kids but it may well be. I kinda think that's fine though, the vast majority of the audiences at that time on weekends are surely parents and young kids?

It's a tricky balancing act, it would appear. Anton was knocked by some for revealing absolutely nothing about his private life. Then when a presenter does, they get knocked. It never harmed Gerry Ryan's career back in the day.

To her credit Alison massively increased the listenership after taking over from Martin King who was the first of the older presenters to be removed. That increase has probably peaked at this stage but quite obviously there was a parents with kids market to be tapped into. She'll remain covering for the moment I'd say.

I think its unusual to not have any podcasts of the show on the website. They just have Antons last ones.I would have thought that they would want to delete any trace of him at all?

Anton and Eanna (among others) made for great listening for me, but it's was not as good today with the female David Attenborough..............!

She sounded utterly uninterested when interviewing Eanna. Just answered with the odd "um" and "yeah". Antons interaction with her was more fluent and he seemed genuinely interested. Did anyone hear the "is a fox afraid of a bee question". Wasn't that one of Tommy Tiernans jokes on the D'Arcy show Saturday night?

Ah no we're not. Seriously hoe could you not notice the focus of that show?

The way the posters are able to manipulate every post on the Today fm Facebook page into something about Anton is actually gas.

I've been listening to Podcasts since Anton left. I'm running out of Adam Buxton episodes though. Anyone any other recommendations (I hate Jarlath Regan and listened to a lot of WTF but got a bit sick of Maron)

you could try Timeghost by Armstrong and Miller. they're about 8 or 9 years old though, so what they're talking about is dated, but if you remember as you go along, they're hilarious.
also, you could try Adam and Joe's old podcasts.http://www.adamandjoe.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=607#p5206

Interesting to see that David McGowans Quirky Glamping have been putting up all of his interviews with Anton today. Watching them back made me miss Antonio even more

    Saw that.
Much of Alison's program is chatting with her girlfriends and it makes for awful poor quality radio.

I find her interviews shallow and lacking in any real professional connection.

Thankfully I'll be taking a two week break from early morning radio but I do hope she's not there in the new year or I'll be turning the dial away from Today FM, but to what I don't know.

They must be haemorrhaging listeners from this timeslot now.

I've listened to a total of about 5 minutes since Anton gone. Been listening to podcasts mainly as Irish radio is pretty poor from 9 - 12

Got the 1001 Albums to Hear Before You Die and making my way through that from 9-1, lunch break, Moncrieff and then back to the albums.

Flicked around a lot and listened to a few CDs. In the few times I flicked today Alison mentioned her child sleeping with her, vegetables and kale..... it was like Ray was again. As poor as Fergal Darcey is in the afternoons at least he's more tolerable then her.

Alison is so bland IMO. Too nicey nicey to do anything of interest. Listened for a week and then out of there....

    "oh, that's so lovely"

"they're great at that age aren't they"

    "I love books"

"Oh my God, that must have been amazing?"
