I don't want to speculate on the total dead in this instance but I know the Charlie Hebdo shootings resulted in 12 people dead. It was big news at the time.

Now these things are common place. The supply of massacres in Europe has reached a stage where I find myself desensitized to them. It's almost a part of EU life.

This is what came to my mind when I heard about the truck driving into the Christmas market in Berlin.
I hope none of them were there.

Sad it's come to this. Our freedoms are being eroded more and more. Only read a report last night about european security forces being really worried about this very kind of attack.

Well folks it was hardly a lad by the name of Paddy Murphy ploughing his Coke truck through the people whilst blaring out "Holidays are coming
    Holidays are coming....".

It was when a Dublin bus crashed through a load of people standing at the 66 bus stop a few years ago. That driver had a heart attack.
And last year a truck rammed through a load of people in the UK when a guy who didn't know what he was doing was behind the wheel.

No-one is saying it wasn't a terrorist attack. People are saying that it might not be and it's sensible to wait and see. Just wait a few hours. If it turns out to be a terrorist attack then there will be plenty of time for gloating and rejoicing.

They've arrested the guy suspected to be the driver of the truck according to local media.

Those bloody atheists ! They have to be stopped .

No religion and people will kill others too, Pol Pot was a radicalised atheist and well over 2 million dead.
You are comparing one genicidal arsehole with an ideology that many people currently subscribe to.

Merkel and her ilk have made it part of EU life. You don't see these attacks in Russia, Dubai, Japan etc.. It's not rocket science.

Merkel merkel merkel merkel, all before we know exactly who did this, their affiliations, their nationality, how long they've been in the country, how they got there etc. Same every time.

What's with all these references to people gloating and rejoicing terrorist attacks? Don't see any of that here. Imagination running away with people again.

Christmas Markets have been overly policed this year. You would want to be blind not to see the cops walking around in plain clothes with sniffer dogs. You could read only last week that a 12 year old was caught for the second time in a number of weeks with a jar/nail bomb which he planned to place at a Xmas market in Ludwigshafen after contact with known IS supporters....suspect Merkel isnt telling us an eight of whats going on.

Anyways....local German press reporting at least 9 dead, over 50 injured and claims being made the lorry driver is armed (supposed to have fired a shot whilst leaving the scene) and on the run.

Unfortunately since this high level of policing is not sifficicient to prevent such incidents from reccururing somewhere on the continent every couple of months, I think we'll see more and more public event involving large crowds being cancelled in Europe (I assume some of them have already been cancelled at their early planning stages in the past year due to safety concerns).

Do you really think people are rejoicing over this? Because it might be a Muslim who did it? If you think people who disagree with you think that way, you're sick.

I'll tell you one thing for sure........
The longer it takes for the Main stream media to confirm the identity of the attacker, the more likely it's an Islamic Terrorist.

Could have been a lot worse given the size of the vehicle, when you consider the toll in Nice.

Wouldn't bother reacting to anything right now. There was talk of multiple shooters roaming around Nice after that attack.

Give it an hour or two, we'll have less hysterical information.

24hr news and social media are both blessing and curse. A generation ago, news outlets would have been able to just put out a short "breaking news alert" and had an hour or two to gather sources and info, but now they have to talk about the events live and constantly. Every theory, rumour and suggestion is then aired - with the "allegedly" caveat - but it really heightens fear and uncertainty at times like this. One channel was basically telling us the easiest ways to commit terrorist attacks a few minutes ago to fill time! Another said "there is, obviously, a massive manhunt for the driver" and less than 2min later, said "local media say the driver was arrested at the scene". It's impossible for them - but they also HAVE to report on it because we all want to know about it and we need reputable outlets to guide us through the social media storm.

What a day for news stories in Europe.

Regardless of whether the driver was a terrorist, a drunk or just lost control it won't change the outcome for nine innocents and their families. RIP.

I see reports of suspect arrested. Good news.

I think you are very much mistaken, people are just fed up of innocent people being killed in what is our backyard, and nations whom we share a similar culture with.
It is not that far away from us.

LePen will win in France and Afd in Germany are on the rise. What kind of Europe that will bring I don't know? The EU will likely break up but at least we will be in control of our borders. If the norm of Merkel, Juncker etal stay in power with their agenda attacks will increase. I can't understand for the life of me why Merkel persists with her mad unchecked immigration policies. There is something behind it and it's not for her having a good heart.

Oh **** off. I didn't even call anyone here "wacist" (because of course anyone who wants facts can't spell). There's a difference between immediately going "GUYS IT'S THOSE EVIL MUSLIMS" and "possible terrorist attack". We don't know the motives of the driver, their background, their nationality etc.

So please just **** off back home.

I've been to a lot of central european christmas markets over the last few years, there was always so much happiness. This year was different, I wasn't the most confident as I felt (over the last year stories of lone wolf attacks) someone might have a go at one of these christmas markets and today someone did :(

RIP to all that died and to the many that will have injuries for their entire life.

European hospitality and compassion is misinterpreted as weakness. It's time our politicians stopped offering it, because this approach is not working.

The whole continent will eventually be inflamed with this madness.
