Im a massive Conor fan but if he fights Floyd its just a cash grab from the two fighters. Coming from a guy who doesn't give a crap what they make for a fight I want to see Conor fight Khabib next.

I know this is highly highly unlikely but could you imagine if Conor actually KOed him?

Conor couldn't make 147 with boxing procedure and early weigh ins I don't think. Pretty sure they do hydration tests, you can't kill yourself as much as in MMA.
Rehydration stipulations are usually contractual not regulatory.
Which means the restriction will come from Floyd team rather than CSAC.

Any thoughts on the awards tonight?

    Is he even in Ireland?

Any thoughts on the awards tonight?

    Is he even in Ireland?

    Thoughts:

Should win and favourite to win with bookies.

That statement can apply to Hillary Clinton, too, though.

He hasn't exactly campaigned to win it - I don't think he even put out one post on his own social media to try win it. The UFC pushed it on their account a bit and they lent RTE a lot of footage for the promo clip to that effect.

Given it's a public vote, he could have walked the award if he pushed it to his Gazillion followers across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. He's also had push-back from prominent people like Eamon Dunphy and a lot of people do actually listen to him - whether people want to believe that or not!

Judging by the recent poll commissioned by PSG (not the football team), then it's not clear cut.

He was named Most Admired Sports Star but lost in the biggest categories to the O' Donovans and to Ireland beating the All-Blacks in the Chicago Test (most memorable moment of year).

No idea if he'll fly home for it (or not) but there's a fair chance he'll be coming home for Xmas this weekend, so I'd say 'probably'.

My suspicion is he'll come 2nd to Paul O' Donovan and both Conor and Frampton will be overlooked. That won't be a travesty, as such, because Olympians tend to dominate Olympic years and Paul backed up his Olympics showing with a strong showing in the Worlds.

But, truthfully, rowing is a sport that a microscopic amount of people actually follow outside of the Olympics and the popular vote should go to McGregor, followed by Frampton.

I would truly worry about the mindset of Irish people if we award it to someone whose highest profile 2016 achievement is coming 2nd at the Olympics when we have 2 winners dominating their sports.

    Thanks for that.

Surprised he hasn't been on the late late yet.

Ryan always had time for him and I'm sure he would love to show off his two belts to the Irish public.

No sign of Conors belts on the table of tropies at the Sports Awards so doubt he is there. Unless he is wearing them at a table :pac:

Sorry, clicked on the wrong quote.Unfortunately McGregor will probably win, can't stand him or the immorally financed "sport" he competes in.That is not begrudgey,I just think the whole UFC thing is awful.
I'll drop a bit of knowledge from the MMA Forum and it goes a little like this:

"The Double Champ does whatever the F**K he wants".

I.e. Nobody is going to force him to attend any UFC event he's not part of

    Sorry WL couldnt resist.

Conor spoke brilliantly there. Very informative stuff for us UFC fans and a measured response about the nature of the sport. Really good stuff.

    Now win please.

Did he just hint that it wouldn't be an 8 month break?

That Clare McNamara is RTE's top sports journo.....I doubt they'd send all the way out there just for an interview, more a presentation too

And Conor wins it. Fully deserved.

Ffs, people on this board have spent weeks whinging that anti MMA bias would prevent McGregor from winning the award. He wins and all people now want to do is whinge about how other parts of the media might portray it.

The only thing worse than a bad loser is a bad winner. He won. He deserved to win. Be happy about it for ****'s sake.
