Discover Weekly is reasonably good. It creates a playlist based on your listening habits.

I'm not sure how to use Spotify. I've had the same 32 Gigs of music on my phone for a few years. Can I learn from what I have in storage or will I have to teach it or just let it find new stuff for me?

Don't know if it can learn anything from your existing music. But you can create your own playlists, listen to Spotify created playlists based off a song of your choice or listen to playlists created by other people or Spotify themselves.

I created a playlist last week using this site. You put a song in and it comes up with a playlist - press a few buttons and hey presto, the playlist is in your Spotify

Yeah, think there's a second series in the works too.

Are you asking me? With my wide-ranging use of modern apps and social media? :p

I thought that was just a new music playlist created by Spotify. Didn't realise it was based off your own habits - that's excellent news

I thought the same until I actually bothered listening to it last week and realised it was tailored for me. I have quite a varied taste in music so the playlist is a bit all over the place.

When you download stuff on Spotify it's not like downloading from ITunes, is it? I'm not getting charged for each song, it's just how you listen offline?

Nope, I just never really learned how to segue from a specific reply to a general query.

Just looked at the calendar there. My next day off is the 17th of April. Will just spend it looking after the kids anyway. Not sure if I'll burn out or die of boredom first.

It won't learn anything from the music you have on your phone/in storage now, it's mainly a music streaming service to get rid of the need to have huge amounts of music in digital storage(you can still download songs through spotify to have access to them offline) so you'll have to start from scratch unfortunately. You can build new playlists and access music through their software.

Their discover and browse features will suggest songs/playlists to you that you may be interested in.

I'm currently condemned to spend 15 days working in Belfast in January.

At least the mileage will be good.

Must look up this spotify, my new phone doesn't have a radio and I'm with voda

While I would never obviously have downloaded anything illegally, hypothetically had I done so I would have stopped doing so once Spotify and Netflix came around. Have had Spotify premium for a few years - would go mad without it at this stage really.
Netflix has the benefit of 2 people using it at once which I in no way abuse by sharing a membership which alas Spotify doesn't have. Still weird to me that spotify is more expensive (or at least was til recently) but I'm still happy to pay it at that price.

This is exactly how I feel about everything

    Same.

I know there are issues about Spotify and how much artists actually get paid but I would be inclined to purchase a physical copy of anything I listened to an awful lot anyway.

I'm pretty sure there's a spotify premium family or something like that available that allows multiple users.

If your new phone is a smartphone you should be able to download a free radio app through the play store/app store.

Tis, but tbh, it is fairly rare I use the radio due to how much I travel.

Turns out I get spotify premium free on my vodafone plan so am going to try that out.

Remember to stick an SD card in your phone and download all your playlist before you go up north. In Spotify settings you can choose to put them on the card and choose extreme high quality.
