Slane is an absolutely cracking venue. But it's a total disaster to get in and out of. We know someone down that way thank God but I can fully understand the hate for it

Looks like virgin internet has died all over Dublin ? Mine is down, twitter showing loads of people in Dublin with issues.

DNS issues, google dns will work (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)

Just came on here to moan about how shìt virgin are. Wife signed up to Netflix tonight and we can't watch anything. Checked the speed and it's 36 mgbs.

I really want to smash that horizon box with a hammer...It's beyond useless.

Go here, follow the instructions on how to change your DNS

    http://www.geeksquad.co.uk/articles/how-to-change-your-dns-windows-10

Enter 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 . Your laptop will work for the internet, you can connect it up to the tv I guess.

I don't know how to do it on one of those horizon boxes, I insisted they gave me a seperate router when I signed up for a better package earlier in the year. But the router they give you is still rubbish, can't even set custom DNS.

Thanks awec having the same issues here in Galway and that fixed it

I have to say though I'm a bit surprised you didn't find a way to blame it on Lord Nucifora :D

    My solution earlier will work.

Notice how I come with an actual solution, I do not punish you for not being networking experts who have failed to develop your own ISP infrastructure in your garage with parts you bought in powercity.

This is what sets me apart from people like Lord Nucifora. This is why I am a better person.

I'm tethering from my phone at the moment. I'm not going to start into my router settings tonight, I've got a small home server setup and invariably I'll end up breaking something and then have to re-learn how I set it up in the first place.

No amount of DNS changing had fixed it here. Their routers really are the biggest sacks of ****e I've ever had to deal with. Bridge mode and a good router will be returning in my very near future.

Lost the internet last night too. Had to talk to the wife, was shocking :)

Virgin's new white router is decent

The superhub thing, I have one. You can't set custom DNS on it. :(

Why would you want to set custom DNS?

If your ISPs DNS servers are down, you get no internet. However you can manually set the default DNS servers on your PC and they will take over.

All the years they were NTL, UPC etc. I had to get them out once to give is a new box and that was only because my brother had filled the old DVR so much it basically shat itself and died. Since the switch to Virgin I've had to get two new TV boxes and every couple of weeks there's something wrong with the Internet.

Haven't had a problem with virgin since they took over, but I did switch back to the old box 2 weeks after getting horizon. The wifi range on it was pitiful. Did not like the cumbersome feel to the changing of channels either.

Found myself in the slightly surreal position of having Mike Ross giving me tech support on twitter over this... https://twitter.com/MikeRoss03/status/806279175908839424

Upgraded to Spotify Premium today. They're doing 3 months for 99c. It's usually 9.99 per month. Seems good value. Being able to stream stuff offline and in the car is making my life better already.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,967 ✭✭✭Synode

I've been using it for about 6 months now. It really is class.

You can get it via Vodafone if you're with them for €5.99 p.m. I've just transferred it over to my work phone.

Didn't know that. Is it a limited time offer with Vodafone? I'll go for that in March when the 99c offer runs out. I've only had it for the day but I've already decided I can't be without it now.

Currently watching the Icelandic series trapped. It's good.

No the offer has been around for a while. I just started a company so was able to transfer it last month.

The amount of music on it is amazing. The one thing that bugs me though is the playlists based off a song (think it's called stations). I'm finding their selections are pretty poor. iTunes Genesis (I think it was called) was brilliant at it. Spotify just lazily picks a load of other songs from the same artist and other tracks that are usually nothing like the selected track - they need to improve it

Yeah, think there's a second series in the works too.

I'm not sure how to use Spotify. I've had the same 32 Gigs of music on my phone for a few years. Can I learn from what I have in storage or will I have to teach it or just let it find new stuff for me?

Yeah, I have a couple of play lists of my own and they give you suggestions for songs to add but most of them are just the same artist or completely random. Maybe it's one of those things where the more you use it the more accurate it gets?
