I bought a HTC 10 the other day (Eir upgrade) as I was sick of the terrible battery life on the IP7 (had a 10 before and regretted selling it almost instantly). Interestingly the firmware must have been pretty up to date as Android pay was on it.

I'm on 195.401.4 and September security patch. Incidentally there is actually zero bloat other than Facebook and Instagram. If I remember the last 10 had more bloat (was with VF). Also zero Eir branding or utils. Oh and it's unlocked out of the box as my VF pay sim worked just fine. Paid 99 euro for it, first 6 months 25euro a month, then of course 45 after that :(

Thinking of doing the whole unlock boot loader, root, s-off thing and putting on the latest 2.xx firmware with Nougat but reading lots of reports about hassle people are having and twrp and other stuff not working. Then again, I don't know when carriers like Eir/Meteor will release Nougat after it's released officially for the 10 over here. Might just root it so I can change the carrier id to international and flash a 1.9X firmware so can get updates quicker and Nougat when it comes. Anyone doing this ?

Why did you regret the HTC10 after buying it? And why did you get it again?

    Quick query guys,

I've got a HTC One M8 and it's beginning to struggle, mainly in the camera stakes.

I'm considering an upgrade and have a query about the 10.

I love the way you can refocus your photos (UFocus) on the M8 after you've taken them.

Is this possibly with the 10? I notice in the pics that it doesn't have a Duo Camera.

Any thoughts would be helpful and appreciated.

I'm waiting for twrp to be working before jumping to nougat. The whole twrp thing is meant to be tied to the kernel, so it might not be fixed until HTC drop kernel source.

You can still flash n ROM and firmware, you're just limited by what you can do after that. I do a bunch of flashable mods that I need to update to work with magisk, then they will be fine even with broken twrp. I just struggle finding the time to get my head around new stuff ATM.

No, you can't change focus afterwards any more. I always thought uFocus was poorly implemented, and often didn't work that well. The camera on the 10 is much better than M8, in any case.

    Cheers for the update.

While I definitely agree with yout that the camera on the 10 will be a massive improvement, I do really like the UFocus feature.

Do you know if there are 3rd Party Apps which provide the feature, or is it the case that the camera no longer capture the depth data anyway?

You can add bokeh using loads of apps, I'm sure. Snapseed does lens blur, and there apps such as AfterFocus

Cheers again for your time Basil3, I appreciate it.

On a more general note, I’m a HTC loyalist - I’ve had HTC phones as long as I can remember.

At the same time, I’m wondering is the HTC 10 worth the (high) price when some of their competitors (LG, Samsung, Huawei) are significantly cheaper?

I'm not the person to talk to. I've had like 10 HTC flagships dating back to the MDA Vario III (Tytn II) on Windows Mobile :D

It is the best HTC phone for a good while, though. You won't be disappointed.

I modify my device, so the development community always keeps me coming back to HTC. All their competitors have decent phones atm as well, so I'd say you'd be pretty happy with any of the flagships that came out this year.

Another thing to bear in mind is that it's only a few short months until the next round of flagships are released.

Cheers Basil, I appreciate your time.

To be honest, it’s gonna be around March I’ll be upgrading so I’ll keep my eye on future releases (and potential price drops).

    Cheers again,

Android pay pop up on anyone elses phone automatically today?

Yes, I was surprised to see it on my oneplus 3 this morning. Didn't think it was available in Ireland.

Has anyone attempted to use Android pay yet? I wonder if it'll even work with the dodgy NFC on the 10.

You should get the Huawei P9 - duo cam with ability to refocus after you take the pic. I really like the feature on mine and I find it is implemented better on the P9

Right, last week I posted a question here to fellow 10 users asking if anyone experienced their phone not actually ringing when they received a call. But I hastily deleted the post as I realized I was dumb ass and for some reason had my ring tone set to silent.

However, I was still confused as I would have had no reason to change the tone to silent. Also I noticed that the vibrate button was unticked.

So there we go again this morning and all of a sudden I have more missed calls  My ringtone is set to silent again, and vibrate turned off!!! WTF  Now there is no way that I changed this myself over the last few days. The other thing that my phone has a habit of doing is turning off the auto rotate for when watching videos etc.

What the hell is gong on? Anyone else experiencing these changes going on in the background? What else is it doing without telling me?

You have some sort of automatic Do Not Disturb rules set? I'm running Nougat now, so can't remember how it used to be. Something like Settings > Sound and Notification > Do Not Disturb > Automatic Rules.

the other thing that not happening for me lately is that my emails aren't coming through anymore until I actually go into the email app.

The Email thing happened to me when I first setup my phone but I can't remember how I fixed that. There is a way
As for the turning on silent etc, by any chance do you keep your phone in your pocket or bag with other items?

It's not far off I think. Rumour was early December.

Gas the way every feature of the phone will leak for months in advance of launch, but when an update will land is kept so tightly guarded.

Probably because they release it when it's ready.

Leaks of the N ROM were out a long time before the actual release, but even those 'in the know' can only give a rough estimate.

I actually thought that NFC had been fixed on the Nougat base, because my Leap Card app worked fine reading the 1916 Family Leap Card I used on the weekend. Tried to read my normal leap card.....nope, still can't get it to work. Pretty annoying, although I hardly use a leap card these days.

Yeah the Android pay works fine as the pay terminals are active NFC. My HTC 10 doesn't work with passive NFC tags ie Leap Card

Anyone else finding the camera terrible in low light? Mine seems no better than the M8. Any better app than the stock one?

TBF, the M8 was one of the best low light shooters you can get.
