  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,053 ✭✭✭Itziger

Bad luck today. There'll be other days, like the one next November where we'll all cruise across the line in 2.xx.xx in Valencia!

Unless of course you're tempted by Pisa in 3 weeks time!!

Didn't think so. Recover well and back at it in 2017.

    Bitter, bitter disappointment for me.

Everything seemed to have been primed for a great run, fast flat course, the absolute perfect running weather and I'd even managed to see off a sore throat I'd caught last week.

Was running well, had the sub 3 guys in sight all the way, I wasn't cantering but I was comfortable and getting ready for the final push. Felt a bit of a twinge in the calf at mile 11 but didn't really pay much heed to it. At mile 12 I said to myself I'd only a half marathon to go and I decided to try and slowly close the gap to the pacers. I had run off a slightly dodgy stomach and felt I was starting to get into the zone where I perform well. Literally as my watched beeped on 13 miles my calf went, a sharp severe pain that brought me to a hobbling stop. Spent a minute stretching it and tried to go on, got into the stadium telling myself I could run it off, sub 3 might be gone now but I might still PB. Half a mile later I pulled into the side of the road with my head in my hands and my day done.

Think I've torn it as its still sore and I've never had a cramp in my life. Very frustrating as I'd more niggles than you could shake a stick at on this cycle but never had a hint of this.

Really don't know where to go from here, everything was perfectly set up for me today and I don't think I'll get another opportunity like it.

Not even sure I've got the motivation to go back to the well again given all the sacrifices it entails. Think I rather go bog snorkelling in the Dublin sewers the morning after St Patrick's day than start from scratch again!

Thanks for all the fantastic support on here it's been great.

In the scheme of things it's no big deal but fcuk it my prides now hurtin more than my calf and I'm feeling like a bit of a fraud.

Well done to AMK, great strong run.

There once was a Bogger with a plan
To run sub 3 on the streets of San Sebastián
    He got to the half
    And buggered his calf
And now his plan's in the can

Am not going to say anything, just sending a big ether-hug to you x

You're not a fraud, get that out of your head right now. Look, take some time to take stock. Don't do anything rash, take a break and have a good long chat with coach. You could not have foreseen what happened today. The training was done, it was bad bad luck and we're all feeling it with you. Don't write anything off just yet. You'll come back again C, you will.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,121 ✭✭✭tang1

I normally come on here to take the pi$$, not this time. Massively gutted for you C as I am sure the greater A/R community is for you. Your honestly a breath of fresh air around here and thank god you log. I'm sure there's others like me who in the past were having ****ty/crap days and they log onto this forum and read your latest tale and all is good in the world again. Knowing you that bit better than some, it must have been bad for you to pull the plug.

It's not a time to make decisions, leave that for another day. You've every right to be gutted but knowing the love you have for your running you'll come back again to fight another day. Take a bit of time let the calf heal and see how the focus is then. The sub 3 is in you, all that follow this log know that. It was not to be today. Is that counted as marathon 12,001 or 12,000.5(sorry)!!!

Bummer so gutted for after such a strong training cycle. Have a few beers chill out tomorrow's another day. Mind that calf.

Just poxy luck - gutted for you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 914 ✭✭✭Bulmers74

Hard luck chief. Really felt today was going to be your day.
Hope the injury isn't too bad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,672 ✭✭✭hillsiderunner

Now,, you don't get frauds doing 10MP at 5am in the morning on Seanadh Pheistin. So none of that. We all were looking forward to see you get the result you deserved.

Very sorry to hear about what happened, those uncontrollables were especially cruel today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,140 ✭✭✭snailsong

Big +1 to all that was said above. I was very disappointed to hear of your misfortune today.
Don't fry your head trying to make long term plans right now, there'll be plenty of time for that. Sometimes the uncontrollables bite us in the arse, we can't legislate for that. Like everyone I love your log so I'm hopeful and confident there's going to be a next chapter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,883 ✭✭✭Younganne

Ah Sh1te!! Gutted for you, you have had such a positive training block and I was 100% sure you'd get your time today. However the stars didn't align for you today, but they will. Get the calf sorted and only then have a think and chat with your family & coach.
I Always look forward to reading your log and hope you stay around these parts and come back fighting!! I can an imagine your disappointment and you're entitled to feel it after putting in all the work. But you're strong, never mind the being auld bit :D so you can tackle it again, if you want to. Surely you want another bite of the cherry!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,911 ✭✭✭tailgunner

Gutted for you, that's terrible luck. Hope you recover quickly, mentally and physically. There must be another twist in the sub-3 tale yet!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,921 ✭✭✭Kennyg71

Really bad luck today, recover well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,410 ✭✭✭ger664

    C

You gave it a good rattle today. Really felt this was to be the day, you got to the start fresh and in shape mentally. Bummer what happened, don't make and rash decisions for a few days.
