It's only Sergeants who are boycotting PULSE, get your facts straight at least. I for one don't agree with the strike, we get paid well enough in my opinion but could badly do with updated resources like decent cars and proper training in First Aid and the like. But hey it's literally a job with to many Chiefs, what would a man like me that has to actually work with these outdated resources everyday know!!

Jaysis I feel strange talking sense on your log!!!

I'm grumpy as fcuk lately, my mood is lower than Donald Trumps approval ratings with Mexicans!

Need a decent week or two.

Sat: late evening run with head torch around the local pitch. Did a mile at the end on the road to test the leg but I could feel it start to stiffen up after a few minutes so left it at that. 8 miles at 8.02 pace

    Sun: family stuff, no run

Monday: got 8 miles easy to steady done on the trails around Dangan, legs felt better today even with a few miles done on the harder compact trails. Was puffin a bit towards and illogically I feel like my fitness has drained away.

Tuesday: more easy miles. Decided to try a few miles on the road again and got 5 miles done before hitting the grass pitch. Finished up with 4.2 miles on the pitch. 9.2 miles @ 7.38. Best day in two weeks and the legs didn't immediately stiffen up after the run.

I'm hoping if things keep improving that I can get back on track and stick to my planned target.

4.5 weeks to go and I'd like to get two more 20 milers done and a few decent sessions under my belt to add to the miles already banked. Icing on the cake would be if I can manage a 5/4/3/2/1 PMP session without falling down!

Jaysis most lads your age are only delighted to be able to stiffen up!!!! Good to see the improvement C.

Wed: early morning got 10 miles easy done, with longest stretch on the road in 2 weeks (7 miles), finished up with 3 miles around the grass pitch for 10 miles @ 8.15

PM: got another 4 miles easy done to clear the head, around and around that feckin grass pitch @ 7.57

Thursday: plan called for steady miles.

Did this on the pitches and trails around Dangan. Got 10 miles done @ 7.11, a bit fast. I started slow and got faster as I went along. Feels like a lifetime ago that I did the Athlone 3/4's at 7.04 pace, fitness has definitely taken a hit :(

It's 2.5 weeks ago in and in that time you've done approx 112 miles running so that's probably not really the case...

What's the schedule like between now and San Seb (running & work)? you had a great run in the Galway half and again in Athlone, use those positives to your advantage.

Friday: got 6 easy miles done on a combination of road and my favourite grass pitch @ 8.18

Parked up beside the Chippee ordered a disgustingly unhealthy dinner ran to the grass pitch did some laps and then back to the Chippee!! 4 miles @ 8.38

    10 for the day

Today: plan called for LR tomorrow with 5 steady miles and 6 at MP. Doing family stuff tomorrow and going into town to see the Macnaus parade so I decided to do this today. Was wary of this run as the shins and ankles were tight last night and my head is melted trying to manage the fine line between not doing enough and overdoing it and exacerbating the niggles. Was reasonably happy with the way this went but I was on tenterhooks the whole way around!!!

Got 18 miles done in total.

Best of luck to all the Boardsies running tomorrow

Bloody Macnas. Professionalising our perfectly good tractors-and-ceilidh-dancers parade tradition.

Nice running. Stay away from the chipper though (unless it's McDonagh's, which is still over-rated!)

    Thanks Murph.

The Chippee was a little treat coz when I got up on the weighing scale yesterday the figures started with a 12 for the first time since I ate my Home Economics practical exam in the 80's!!

    Have a great run tomorrow

Yesterday: plan called for easy miles. Decided to take a rest day after the 18 miles on Saturday. Was happy with the 18 miler as I did it faster and more comfortably than a few weeks ago over the same route.

Went into see the Macnas parade or as some would call it, the day for all of Galways unemployed actors to show case their talents. :)

It was absolutely fantastic, really really well done. Mickey D was been mobbed in Shop Street like a rock star in a walk around after the event.

Today: early morning 8.5 miles around Dangan @ 7.50. First time in yonks that the legs felt like they'd a bit of spark rather than been like to bags of cement.

Got another 6.5 miles done very easy @ 8.24 around the local roads and grass pitch before heading off to scare the neighbours.

    15 miles for the day

Today: the plan called for 1 mile wu/cd with 4 x 2 miles at MP off 1k steady.

Head wasn't right at all for this. We are heading to Ballyhoura for a few days and Mrs TbL wasn't best pleased when I said I'd to run before we left. Almost canned the session but headed out in a foul humour, with Mrs TbL like a demented Tasmanian devil!

Picked a mile out and back section, the weather was great but there was a fresh wind blowing, so the out and back made it a fair workout.

Was surprised that I managed this handy enough (a touch on the fast side but I was in a hurry home :) ) except for the last rep where the legs started to get heavy. Didn't have time for the mile cool down.

Total for the day 10.5 miles (7.02 average)

    Rep paces:

    6.39
    7.21
    6.39
8.00 (had to stop to take stone outta my shoe)
    6.37
    7.28
    6.37

Probably only easy running, if I get out at all, over the next few days in Ballyhoura.

The reps are 2m each with 3x1k steady and the w/u to make up the daily total. I'm sure TbL will have more fun pointing that out though.... :)

Tang: Your honour the defendant was doing 22 kph over the road limit of 50 kph.

Judge: that too fast and dangerous

Tang: yes your honour 92 kph on that stretch is very dangerous :)

Wednesday: down near Ballyhoura for a few days. Spent the day between Mitchelstown Cave, Cahir Castle and driving on crap twisting roads so when we eventually got back to base I took the soft option and didn't run.

Thursday: another long day, this time down in Castlecomer and a puncture on the way back meant we didn't get back till after 10pm. Really just wanted to crash but at this stage can't afford two days off. Couldn't find the head torch so had to drive to the nearest "town", Kilfinnane, and run up, down and around the Main Street about a dozen times. Horrible boring run and some flute threw a chicken nugget at me as I passed the Chippee. Would have eaten it but I'm on a diet!

Got 7 of the most boring miles ever done @ 8.56.

Friday: plan called for 9 steady miles but I pushed this back till tomorrow as I'd no route to do this on. Ended up doing 8 easy miles @ 8.04 on cow ****e splattered boreens.

Decided to try and run the sluggishness out of the legs after a day in Foto with another short run along the same Main Street as last night, was a bit peckish and was hoping someone would lob a chicken leg at me but no joy :). Got 5 miles done very easy @ 8.43

    13 miles for the day.

    Ha Ger,

That's exactly why, the thought of getting on another plane wasn't at all appealing and there was no phone signal in Ballyhoura :)

Saturday: had to do the planned 9 miles steady that I pushed out from yesterday. Drove back up from Ballyhoura, dropped the bags, wife and kids at the house and headed off to get the run done before it got dark.

Headed off on an out and back rolling route, very slow to start, couldn't get the auld engine fired up, Twas like a Girl Guide trying to light a wet leaf fire! Was two miles before I got going but ended up happy with the way the run went. The Girl Guide didn't exactly burn the forest down but I was motoring well over the inclines on the way back.

    10 miles @ 7.06

Much better B. Tnx. Still getting the odd dart from it but everyday it seems to be improving, needs constant attention/maintenance though. Hoping the rest of me holds together for the next 3 weeks. Injury free I'll be disappointed if I don't PB

Today: plan called for 20 miles with 4 miles @ 7.00 min pace.

For whatever reason I didn't want to do this today and kept putting it off, cleaned the shed, mowed the grass and cleaned out the fire. Mrs TbL was giving me a quare look so I eventually headed off. Lovely sunny day for it with a decent fresh breeze blowing. Picked an out and back route that had a mainly uphill finish that would provide a bit of an extra challenge and I wasn't too concerned if I didn't hit the planned 7 min pace as long as the effort was there. Felt good after a few miles and was puttering along nicely.

Had a bit of a wobble around mile 14 and the legs started to feel heavy, was starting to doubt the wisdom of picking a hilly finish and didn't think I be able to pick up the pace. Was able to find another gear or two and was very happy with that finish. I struggled to do 8 min miles on that section earlier in the cycle. Was tired when I finished though!

    20 miles @ 7.30

    75 miles for the week.

I've one more long run to do next weekend and I've enlisted a quality runner to help me get around!
