Best of luck in San Seb. If it's any consolation, I felt crap for the last 2 or 3 weeks heading into Dublin (and I mean really crap), but it all went well on the day. I with adrian522 above - I'd take it as a good sign.

Didn't get the best nights sleep and was up at 6am. I'd the opportunity to do this run with a two time men's national marathon champion, twud be a good chance for me to give him some advice about running and things in general :)

Absolutely perfect day for running but I was apprehensive during the warm up. He doesn't run with a Garmin so he told me to dictate the pace and he'd lock into that. First 5 miles were perfect and I felt in control, next 4 were ok too but I then started to lose the head a bit. The 3 mile rep was too fast and he was asking me was the pace ticking up! Felt it a bit on 2 mile rep and cooled the jets a bit but I went baloobas on the last mile!

Happy with that, it wasn't easy but it didn't kill me either and the company was great.

    TbL

Just catching up here. Great session. Interesting post ;):D

You are going to nail this, you know that, don't you? Less of the doubting self-talk aul awesome fella. I am reading a great book: Success from Within by Brendan Hackett and he covers this aspect of 'mental fitness'. It's a huge element and he suggests we practice 'thought stopping' (of negative thoughts) regularly. You have done the work, and you have done the work well.

So there you go. My tuppence worth, from a fellow aul awesome one.

Thanks to the Queen of Awsomeness :)

That post was just the tonic I needed.

Just back in from a 10 miler @ 7.39 and instead of enjoying it and the beautiful day I'd my head melted thinking how the fcuk I'm gonna run two and a half times that distance at almost a minute faster per mile next Sunday.:(

The mental strength side of things is my weakest area and I really need to work and improve it.

Just told the missus I was awesome, got a "are you back on the booze" look and was told to peel some carrots coz she's "cooking an awesome Sunday roast"!!!

    Tnx again.

    TAbL

Dubgal is right as always. When you stop those negative thoughts you can fill them with some positive ones, here's a few I know worked for someone earlier this year.

    'Trust the Training'

    'You can and you will'

and always remember; Every accomplishment starts with a decision to try.

Best of luck this day week old man, you have this, you just have to Believe it.

The final week C, you've come so far on this cycle and put in an enormous amount of good work. I look forward to logging on here next Monday morning and seeing you post the time that you've trained for and the time that you deserve.

This week is about positivity ... think about the report that you will be write after the race, about how well the race went, about how tough it was but how you got through it. You've got this :)

The very best of luck on Sunday. Seriously impressed with your dedication to training over the last few months. Hope it all pays off and you get the well-deserved sub-3.

There is a man called TbL
    Who runs oh so well!!!

    He travelled to Spain
    To run on the plain

And broke his sub3 hour hell.

All the very best, not going to blow sunshine up your ass, you know the work is done. Go execute now, DFIU(for your missus' sake!!!)

There was once a globetrotting bogger,
Who didn't want to be known as a jogger.
He went to the Basque, for a 3 hour task,
And came back a 2:59 logger....

    Good luck C!

Bon courage, TbL. "Careful now" with the last few days of taper and the pacing.

Looking forward to hearing how it goes, we are expecting great things you know ;). No pressure!

I don't have any poetry but really wishing you all the best. I'm sure you'll have a great run and get the time you deserve.

Just don't let any negative thoughts in and enjoy the experience, the rest will look after itself!

Monday: travelled to London, got a taxi to the hotel and the driver sneezed right on my credit card as he was processing payment, nearly told him to keep it. Took it back from him as if he had Ebola and once inside the hotel I washed it and my hands in a gallon of alcohol gel! Plan called for 20 mins easy, got 3 miles done on the treadmill. Interacting with others as if they have leprosy. I'm making Howard Hughes look unsanitary :)

Tuesday: last minute change to a work schedule meant that I had to get the last flight from Heathrow to Reyjavick! Got to the hotel at 1am and the planned 4 miles easy went out the window.

Wednesday: today plan called for a few easy miles with 2 miles at MP. Got up this morning and it was still dark at 10.30!!! Managed to finish work a bit early and decided to try and get this run done on the paths around the hotel. Very slippy in places and I decided it was too dangerous to try the faster miles so I just jogged along and threw in some surges when the paths were clear of ice. 45 mins easy with surges.

Heading back to London and on to Dublin tomorrow evening so I might try the MP miles on the treadmill.

Thanks for all the posts, the poetry gave me a good laugh :)

There once was a Bogger in taper
Who was planning a sub 3 caper
In his dreams it wasn't to be
    The fool only managed 3.03
When he woke, he was fine, he'd run 2.59
And finally passed his sub 3 test paper

    TbL

Delighted. I finally understood one UM1 post.

Wishing you all the very best.

You're well used to travelling and running anyway so no worry there.

There was a young man named Flanagan,
He said "It's time to stop the shenanigans!
    I might feel like sh1t,
    But I'll keep her lit.
In three hours I'll feel like a man again."

    Keep her lit, man.
    We're all behind you.

I'll have to stop speed-reading - I'm trying to rid myself of a mental image of TbL in a basque...

Best of luck C, don't let that youngster AMK leave you behind:)

I am decidedly ungifted in the poetry department so I will just say BEST of LUCK, will be rooting for you.

Good luck at the weekend C - you've a wealth of experience to draw on for the race itself, a really solid training block with some impressive sessions nailed in the bag and more miles than most of us in those cranky legs of yours.
Time to take things up a notch for a couple of hours and then enjoy the aftermath, the numbers don't lie - you have the ability, let that do the talking on the day
