Amazon & Ireland : This item does not ship to Ireland

    Hi,

    I'm getting fed up browsing on Amazon.co.uk only to read: This item does not ship to Ireland. Its high time that someone here started a petition to get the likes of Amazon to stop treating us like like North Korea and ship.

    They ship to Northern Ireland so its obvious that they really just don't like us for personal reasons.

    I'm still getting ripped off even when they do ship.

    most of the items that don't ship to Ireland are not sold by amazon themselves, but by 3rd party resellers on the amazon market place.

    It is nothing to do with amazon, just the resellers making a business decision.
    Those that do ship, charge a lot, whether the costs are justified, i'm not sure.

    Just ship your items to parcel motel in Belfast, and forget about it.

    I have a parcel motel address and for small items its ok. Here is just one example: Citric Acid - 1 kg @ £4.80. It costs Postage & Packaging £32.37

    It should fit into Parcel Motel and save me a bit....

    But my Amazon packages are usually big boxes to prevent damage. Its not long till they don't fit into the small lockers @ Parcel Motel. Shipping to Ireland shouldn't be constantly blocked. It's just down to personal dislikes.

    amazon charge third party sellers based on their account, if they only ship to the uk they get charged a set rate, international: big bucks.
    and most 3rd party sellers make their money on postage so the further they have to ship, the less they make, its why you can buy books for 1 cent but postage is 2:25.

    Its not perfect of course...

    Parcel motel do handle oversize items. I got a printer shipped fro free to Belfast, and PM charged 10.50 for me to collect it at a nightline depot.

    It was a couple of years ago, so the cost may have changed, but seemed like good value to me at the time...

    You are imagining non-existent dislikes of a country by retailers when it is generally down to cost or regulation.

    Postage to Ireland legitimately costs more than domestically in the UK. Royal Mail eat the extra costs of servicing NI (and the Highlands/Islands in Scotland - which couriers surcharge) as part of their normal pricing

    Most parcel post comes to Ireland in the bellies of passenger aircraft and hence has strict rules on what can go in it. Most courier firms apply similar rules.

    We have different rules on what can be sold to consumers than the UK

    We have stricter WEEE rules than the UK

    And so on and so on.

    As a moderator your not really helpful.

    I have read numerous articles on the Irish Time and the Irish Independent complaining about in this age of the E.U and largely free trade that you can't get items shipped from Amazon to here.

    I have worked (e commerce) in small companies in Ireland and done the shipping calculations to the U.K and rest of Europe. No hassle here.

    Shipping in the U.K is really cheap, shipping in Ireland is a bit expensive but that's here. Previously with strong Sterling and only having to hand the parcel over to the Irish post service its no hassle.

    Its just obviously down to some personal decision, like i couldn't be arsed shipping over to Eire when I don't get anything out of it. I'm sure if we blocked something going over to the U.K we would never stop hearing about it. Amazon shouldn't tolerate this third rate behavior. Its not acceptable.

    That's called a business decision, not a personal one. If you don't make money you are going to go out of business.

    There are legitimate reasons behind items not being shipped to here - not personal dislikes like you believe.

    Unless you're implying some sort or anti-Irish sentiment clearly there's costs or hassle involved that make it uneconomical to deliver overseas. Like that extra charge levied on sellers who ship outside the UK (mentioned earlier) which you ignored.

    Yes, I'm going to use parcel motel. But Ireland has post codes now - maybe its just an image problem and they way things are set up with Royal mail ?

    I wish there was a petition somewhere to sign and send third party suppliers a link.

    Unionist in the north always talk about a cold house down south, that we don't figure out what they need. It might be the same case here over in England. With the east west meetings for the Peace Process and Brexit something like should be fixed.

    We are inside the E.U so I don't know where the extra charges come from. Just look at my first post, £30 pound to ship 1 kg of citric acid to ireland. Surely we should get knock on benefits with northern ireland being part of the united kingdom

    More and more amazon sold items are showing as not shipping to Ireland but AFAIK that is down to manufacturers putting restrictions on the products which they will allow amazon to sell to Ireland, Morphy Richards items are just one lot which are hit and miss, cheaper versions will generally not ship to Ireland but the dearer models usually do ship.

    Another consideration is items with batteries but Amazon seem to be relaxing this restriction in the lead up to Christmas.

    I have noticed the same. Cheaper items especially.

    I'm not going on with this thread, obviously people are happy as things stand.

    Petitions are the most pointless thing ever. Petitioning a private business to do something it has no interest in doing for legitimate reasons is just throwing time away.

    Shipping to Ireland is dearer than shipping domestically in the UK. How difficult is that to understand?

    Royal Mail take the losses of servicing Northern Ireland as part of their PSO. They can't charge any more than for anywhere else in the UK. That PSO requirement stops at the border

    You are conflating and confusing many, many things here that are completely irrelevant - the EU and the peace process have nothing to do with the fact that shipping costs more!

    £30 shipping for a £5 item is total madness, I don't think anyone would disagree on that, but there is an option to get around it, which you are going to use.

    A petition is about as useful as homeopathy.

    The reason many don't ship to Ireland is because of VAT and shipping. It is usually the Chinese sellers that do not.

    They almost always get hit. They can ship directly to the UK without getting hit for VAT, and lets face it, Amazon do not care about that.
    But if their items are sent here, they may get stopped. It is easier for them to just not offer the service.
    Some others do not ship here because of the WEEE tax, but i am not sure how many that realistically applies to anymore.


    For any deliveries that i have to use address pal or parcel wizard etc. for, i always review the item minus a star and review the seller minus two stars.

    I don't mind the fact that a lot of amazon sellers don't ship to Ireland, I'm sure they have their reasons and that's not amazon's fault. I do mind however that I have to click into each listing to find out if I can buy it or not. I think there should be a checkbox you can tick to only show items that can be shipped to Ireland, would make it so much more user friendly.

    OP, look for the same product from a different seller.

    Look for a 'Prime' product. They're delivered free if your basket is over £20.

    There is Citric Acid 1Kg for £6.49 instead of £4.80 like you had found. The 6.49 one has free delivery to Ireland if your basket is over £20.
