Win or loose this has to be the final straw for Fitz! Worst starting QB in the league

Should've been benched 3 weeks ago.

I hope this teaches management a lesson to never throw a shed load of money at one season wonders!

    This team is so bad!

So much for that run! Week 7 and 8 never forget

*sigh* - What a mess of a game, the Dolphins stink as well, makes the L even worse to stomach.

I'm going to the Rams game in Metlife next week, was hoping it would have mattered even a minor amount :(

I'm done with Todd Bowles now, he oversees ****e.

I wish I could just wake up the week after the bye and have a team without Bowles, Fitz and Chan that would be great

Ah man, I was over in the 2014 season when they were 1-8, still had right time

So Petty is getting the start today because Fitz(knee) isn't fit enough to play, but he is fit enough to be a backup?? Dont like to jump the gun but its not a good sign for Hackenberg when a QB thats not fit enough to play gets the back up job. Also Ben Iljana getting his first start at left tackle and Johnson is a centre, could get ugly against a stacked Rams front 7

so thats what a long ball looks like!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,643 ✭✭✭phatkev

Bryce Petty marched the team 99 yards against a good defense on his second drive of his first start. Not bad!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,643 ✭✭✭phatkev

Jesus Christ another horrendous game and the sh1t show continues! Petty was pretty bad but the play calling didn't help the situation at all, why not get him to make a few throws see what he can do instead of showing absolutely no fate in him and continually drawing up screens and draws. Positives - we dont have to watch this sh1t next week, one step closer to a top 10 draft pick. Negatives- its the Patriots after the bye.

This has been an absolute car crash season. At the moment we're a top 5 pick in the draft. I wonder if we shipped Richardson out for a 2nd round pick, could we use our 1st round pick and one of the 2nds to get a franchise QB?

But this team has needs all over the place. We need a QB, CB, S, LB. Then we need a scoring TE and some talent on the offensive line.

    Horrible season.

Horrible game today, play calling didn't help but Petty was fairly uninspiring. Accuracy issues when having time to pass, same problem that was known when leaving college. Nothing to play for you might as well start him after the bye...

you can add coaching staff to the list as well

If he is the starter I'd like to see Chan have the balls and open up the playbook more, see if he can make the throws if given the chance, at least then you know what you have and can just cut him in the off season if its not good enough.

I'll hold faith in the coaching staff, for now....! Although I think Bowes is safe, Rodgers and Gailey may be looking for new employers fairly soon.

Look the cowboys have rebuilt in the draft and not necessarily through 1st or 2nd round picks Dak and Antonio Brown in the 4th and 6th rounds. If only we could find a few gems!

Makes me sick seeing Dak throwing bombs all over the place, and then I see the QB we drafted second who can't even beat out a one legged Fitz for the back up job!

Chan needs to be sent back to the retirement during the bye! I'm giving Rodgers a pads right now because Bowles is meant to be the mastermind behind this defence
Special teams coach should be worried too, that unit has been trash, and how many times does jalin Marshall have to fumble the ball before he's dropped?

What I wonder is if we drafted the likes of Dak, would he even have the chance to showcase his talents?

Bowes surely has to leave Petty in for the next few games and see how he does. If he's crap, give Hack a go. I think our 12m on Fitz is gone down the toilet..

But, you don't get to the playoffs on special teams. This year the defence has been so atrocious, it's taking away from the offenses deficiencies.

Any coach worth his salt will tell you all three phases of the game need to be done right to get to the playoffs!
Horrible ST is one of the main reason we didn't get to the playoffs last year, Legit lost us two games

Yes special teams have been poor, but to be honest our defence has been poor, followed by the offence and then ST. That defence is letting everything be played on it. Long balls, short balls, screen passes.

However, Folk has had a few FG kick blocked. Is it the kicker or the blockers, I don't know. I'd call for Rodgers and Gaileys head before anyone elses

I thought petty could have been much worse tbh, sure he didn't light it up but he seemed calm in the pocket and seemed to go through his reads. The missed long one to Anderson was a killer and the interception ball wouldn't have been contested with a better pass.

Hope he gets a couple of weeks with the first string now and gets a bit more freedom with the playbook next time out.

It is completely understandable that he was on a tight leash. Bowles & Co were saying up until Friday that Fitz was the starter and was going to be as late as a gameday decision.

Petty would have gotten reps, but the focus would probably have been Fitz being the starter.

We now have 2 weeks before our next game. I really hope Petty is given the 2 weeks of training as the no 1. Make a gameplan around his strengths ahead of the Pats game.

Give him the next 3 games as starter, no matter what. Let him sink or swim. If he's not up to it, then that's fine, but apart from the Pats game, he has the opportunity to shine against Indy & SF.

If Fitz really is the best chance we have of winning games, the only time I want to see him would be to stop Miami/Bills from a wildcard or taking home field advantage away from NE on the last weekend. Otherwise, planning for the future is all that matters now

Missed the train for start time so only got there beginning of 2nd quarter. In fact as everyone got off the train there was the only game TD as the firecrackers went off!

Bought ticket online before game for $32. Not that I bothered going up to the top tier as it's fairly easy to sit down anywhere you want. My 2nd quarter view:

Half time wander down to the other end:

Surprised to see Petty on as didnt know he was to be a starter but he did ok considering.

    012.jpg

Best part of second half was sitting in the sun enjoying the cheerleaders. Probably the worst game I've seen and to make it worse didnt get to see the Jets score at all!

Some familiar Hard Knocks faces at the end:

Two week break could be what they need to regroup. If they cant raise their game for the next opponents serious questions have to be asked.

Game at same venue tonight is like watching a different sport.

Well..... I never thought I would say this, and it makes me sick to say it, but I hope the NE Defence embarrasses us on the weekend.

I cannot believe Fitz has been named starter. I understand there is a good chance Bowles & Gainley know Petty isn't the answer, but surely game time would be more beneficial than playing Fitz? Other than trying to win a few more games to save their own hides, there is no reason to play Fitz.

I would much rather see Petty play, opening up the playbook to him and having him have 2 or 3 absolutely awful games than watching Fitz play well and leading us to 1 or 2 wins. Fitz is gone next year, no matter what he does over the next 2 months. He isn't a long term Jet who deserves to see out a lost season as a kind of send off. He is a guy who held out for more money and now shows he wasn't worth it. Move on. Play Petty.... Fcuk it, if he isn't good, have Hack as backup and give him a few reps at the end of games.

Last week I posted that I am on the keep Bowles wagon. We can't be dumping coaches every couple of years, but his handling of the Fitz situation has been a disaster

    Couldn't agree more with this

Bowles is a fcuking disaster! I never miss a game no matter how bad we are but knowing this stubborn ass man is gonna go against what's best for the team in the long run and having to watch this **** I just can't stomach it anymore. The fcuking season is done and all these over paid bums have already mailed it in long ago and Bowles still refuses to drop the fcukers, its the definition of insanity. This is easily one of the worse seasons I can remember.(I'm talking like Kotite years) Yes way worse than 4-12. However at least those teams played hard. Bowles/Gailey have got to go.
Bowles also said in a press conference this week that he is concerned players will check out this week if he starts Petty, as if they haven't already done that!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,644 ✭✭✭SHOVELLER

Going to go with Fitz on this. He is the more experienced and this game is not for Petty. Watching him last week didnt exactly inspire confidence and conceding Fitz has not exactly been inspiring himself I feel Bowles has made the right decision here.

Of course time will tell and I'm debating whether to watch this game in a bar here with those ****ing annoying patriot fans.

As an aside Bowles needs to be more clever with the media.

Agreed - Don't care if the number one pick was on the line, never ever would I root against the Jets when playing the Patriots. We usually play them tough, would love to take them out of the #1 seed in the AFC with a win this weekend.

I think my reaction was more a spur of the moment one. Very annoyed with what we have starting, but (first line of my last post apart!!) not for a second would I root for the Pats over anyone else in the league, let alone the Jets.

And so the chorus in the NY media begins: tear 'em down yet again and rebuild. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/time-owner-woody-johnson-tear-jets-start-article-1.2886484

I don't know - yet another rebuild, yet another great GM hire that can't get the team past mediocrity for more than a season, all kinds of draft choices not one that turns out great, every season ending in a loss (well, except those where the team's eliminated long before the last game of the season...)

Pitchers and catchers report starting in 79 days...
