Sadly I'm not completely surprised at his win.

It's like Brexit: people who feel abandoned by government and neoliberal economic policy...
    a) are attracted by someone who promises to create jobs, and blames their issues on external bogeymen...
and b) get fed up at people who tar all Brexit/Trump supporters as racist sexist bastard idiots, and can't understand why people would want to vote they way they do, because they don't consider these people, who are often pretty invisible to the middle and upper classes. This makes these supporters understandably defensive and more entrenched in their support.

Of course a lot of racist sexist bastard idiots also voted for Brexit and Trump, but there was also a sizeable proportion of former working-class people who've felt completely abandoned by modern politics, and those who assume they're racist sexist bastard idiots.
Sadly, neither Brexit nor Trump will do anything for them at all, which is the real tragedy of all this.

So I can understand the disadvantaged of America voting for Trump. What's interesting is the number of polls which asked people if he had the right temperament for the role, or if they agreed with everything he believed, which had very high rates of negative response. Obviously a lot of people thought "this guy's a f*cking bullying ass, but he says he's going to get my job back, whereas Hillary ain't promising me nothing."
It would've been really interesting to see a Sanders/Trump election. I won't assume Sanders would've won, as the word "socialism" is still a dirty one, but at least he would have tried to truly represent the disaffected and offer them something. It's a pity the Democratic Party made sure that didn't happen.

I've no idea though, why any Irish person would support such a vile goon as Trump.

who cares though lets be honest its hardly a criminal offence like , ok its in bad taste but its a big so what really

It wouldn't be accepted from someone who works in the local corner shop, never mind the leader of the free world. Your attitude towards his comments is depressing.

The laws, and standards of behaviour (like taxes) only really apply to the little people.

    Did you read it?

I did and I'm glad I did. It's put to bed one of my bigger concerns about his character. I didn't know anything about that reported and his condition, I didn't know Trump was making flustered gestures, I was led to believe he was mocking someone with cerebral palsy. People have no integrity. They will twist anything to suit their agenda.

I read it. He was absolutely mocking his disability. There's no debate. The Catholics for Trump tell you that he was making 'Flustered gestures' and you believe it? Ridiculous. He was talking about a specific journalist and mocked his disability.

I'm a young educated American woman so yes I can presume to speak for young women a lot more than a middle aged Irish/American man can.

Well, then, she should have voted for someone else if she didn't like Clinton. Otherwise, she contributed to this mess.

Oh so then I guess being outnumbered in a 3:2 ratio isn't worth much if it isn't resulting in degrees or degrees that lead to jobs is it?

You'll be on here saying the same thing with the NF are elected in France. People like you are causing this surge in support for the far right.

Immigration isn't as big an issue in France as the racists are pointing out. If they win anything, like trump, it will be on the back of what people think they can do for them economically.

    Check out the eurobarometer http://ec.europa.eu/COMMFrontOffice/publicopinion/index.cfm/Chart/index

'Two most important issues you are facing at the moment'

Like last night, immigration is way down the list. If you're a far-right, racist extremist party in Europe, you need more than the 'immigration bogey man coming to get you' trick.

Looks like the Canadians will be putting up their own wall to stop illegals coming from south of the border.
Canada looking to trump Trump's wall.

I am laughing so much at how people compared him to Hitler, absolute idiots who just created a group for Trump who would never leave him no matter what he said. Questioning his voters morals.

Hitler wrote a book on the covetous Jew and the corrupting influence of the Jew.

Trump wrote a book on how to negotiate business deals.

    Clearly Trump is Hitler 2.
If I was Jewish I would have thought the Hitler comparisons as being utterly bizarre. It was as if people thought Hitler was just some mythical being representing evil and not an actual real dictator who murdered over 6 million Jews. Unbelievable.

Its an issue for lots of people, including non-racists. Which is the part you keep missing.

I suppose there'll be a mad scramble now to find Trump's Irish ancestors, if any, and where they're from. ;)

For what its worth, im not sure this will be the apocalype some are predicting. The US president has surprisingly limited ability to act in isolation. I think he may well end up being a bit of a Ronald Reagan type of president. Not a completely good thing by any means but equally not a disaster.

yes I agree, Trump is the ultimate pragmatist. He's utterly without political ideology and for me thats great

Love when the elected says its time for unity across all parties when theyve just spent 8 years doing the opposite.

But the type of politicians who would look after the working class who have been disenfranchised are socialists politicians but they hate socialism in America so they really don't know what they want and the truth is there will always be people left behind in a country.

I couldn't give a toss who won the election but it really is hilarious that American's voted for Trump who is the type of person that has benefited most from this system that they are railing against.

In his speech he clearly referred to Citizens and Americans he did not talk of the people of america. I think anyone illegally in the country can read a lot into that.

Because he gave money to the IRA during the Troubles.

But what about all the racists that were emboldened by Trump? That's what terrifies a lot of people. And that Trump was almost at pains not to distance himself from them, it's hardly surprising that many associated Trump with only racist voters.

(And let's be honest, it doesn't help that Trump kept using Hitler quotes.)

Is that supposed to be a bad thing? If you break the law, you get deported. That's just simple fact.

How was she threatened if she had anonymity exactly? SHE said she was threatened, it doesn't make it true.

Personally I think it was a pile of ****. Those DNC agents were hiring mentally ill people to go cause trouble at Trump rallies, who knows what else they were doing.

Through her lawyer who was named.

I said her saying it doesn't make it true very specifically. Trump saying he didn't do it also does not make that true which is why judgement should be reserved on both.

You can think what you like. Do you also think the conservative commentator who said he would grab his musket if Trump lost was a plant?

    By being a good person?

This is the exact baseless horseshlt that got him elected. You're trying to make something out of nothing and it's so obvious. I'm glad you're so butthurt you have to make up allegations of sexism to try and win this argument.
Relax with the hysteria. I never mentioned the word in bold. You have twice. Take a look at yourself before projecting onto myself.
