Did that last caller call someone a coward?

There'll be a court case over that if yer man is still alive.

Just stuck €20 on Trump, possibly the worst financial decision I have made since purchasing Telecom Eireann shares but more fun none the less :D

The DNC wanted Crooked Hillary with her sex addict Bill.

Bernie was too boring in comparison.

The JFK book is an interesting read. Tubridy is a history graduate, and he genuinely knows his brief. I like him anyway.

That Patrick and the President book though? Crriinge.

My only issue with Tubridy is his schmaltzy nostalgia for some mythical mid-twentieth century golden era, which might have looked like fun on Mad Men, but was probably a miserable world to live in. I wish he'd drop the young fogey bit, too, and be his own man, instead of imitating broadcasters like Gay Byrne.

I like Tubridy on the radio. In my view he is a skilled interviewer who is able to change his approach because he listens to the answers given by his interviewees. Unlike many (Miriam is a case in point) he eschews the "list of questions from 1-10" approach.

    Agree with that synopsis.

I think she does very well on Prime Time, but I can't stand Miriam Meets. RTE seem determined to get her onto saccharine shows where the studio seems to be covered in floral wallpaper, where Mirzy and her guests stroke each other with soft fabrics. It just doesn't work. So boring.

Miriam should give up that sweet shite and stay refereeing between Jack O'Connor and some government backbencher tearing strips off one another.

I find him atrocious tbh. He can be fawning at times and perceptibly nervous at others as is often evidenced by that tick of his to slap the desk repeatedly mid-conversation.

Witness his car crash late late interviews with:
Howard Marks & Rhys Ifans (which gave us the "Dainty Little Bugger" monicker")
Jonah Hill asking Tubs "are you nervous buddy?" mid-interview
Tom Cruise, where Tubs was like a teenage girl meeting her favourite boyband
Brian Cowan; I'd say Cowan had tougher grillings by his daughters than Tubs gave him

i rarely watch the show, I just happened to see those but everytime I watch there's something weird/awkward. The late late thread don't seem to think he's blessed with the skills you suggest, and they can't all be wrong, can they? That thread is rather like this one, people tune in not for the skills of the host, more the lack of them and to see what weird turn the show will take under the host's mishandling of topics. It's the car crash tv version of Duffy's car crash radio show, so to speak; only as it's on tv we can see the colour of the car.

Oh and on the 1-10 questions technique, part of Tubs' problem is if he gets an unexpected answer he doesn't have the skill to change tack and ploughs on regardless. He's like a robot in that regard.

Did Joe pronounce Jadotville as if it was a Spanish word a couple of times, i.e. Yhaay-dotville?

    Caller: "I did .. I did.. "
Joe Duffy: "And ARE you going to leave the country?"
Caller: "Ah but you see... it's not my fault".
Joe Duffy: "But now you sound loike you're changing your mind".
Caller: "But I meant it as a joke, I didnt' really mean it".

Listening to Morning Ireland since 6.00. The anger, bias and disappointment in the voices of the RTE crowd is so obvious.

The only one keeping above this is Catriona Perry.

Joe won't know whether to grovel to his new overlord in Washington or just let his own anger out.

Joe: well as I confidently preDICKted all along Trump won and dat. Me fingers are on de pulse of de ordinareeee wurkin' man no matter ware dat man lives or de colour of his skin, or how badly I pronounce his name so to speak. Shane Coleman and Chris (in fairness) are doing their best to keep their chins up on Newstalk. However, I'm really looking forward to hearing Ryan Tubridy at 9am.

Ah yeah, Joe is effectively the representative and unofficial spokesperson for the blue collar workers. In the same way that Barrack Obama speaks for the black community in America.
