Jesus is there a show on TV that isn't written by Sharon Horgan?

Not that I'm complaining, Catastrophe is the best comedies of the past few years and Divorced looks good.

Alistair MacLean Novels to be turned into event series.

Laurence Bowen’s London-based Dancing Ledge Productions has entered into a deal with publisher HarperCollins to adapt the novels of Alistair MacLean as event TV series. The first project under the pact is San Andreas, a thriller set on board a torpedoed WW II hospital ship.
HarperCollins owns the rights to bestselling author MacLean’s novels which also include The Guns Of Navarone, Ice Station Zebra and Where Eagles Dare. Each of those was previously turned into a feature. His books have sold over 150M copies since 1955.

Each novel-to-TV project will be structured as a four- or six-part event mini. San Andreas sees the ailing ship attempt to make its way back across the North Atlantic to Scotland while a saboteur picks off members of the crew.

Bowen says, “I doubt there are many bookshelves in the UK that don’t have at least one Alistair MacLean thriller, so the opportunity to work with HarperCollins to adapt a number of them for screen is incredibly exciting. If you then add a writer with the talent of Tony Marchant to the mix, we have a wonderful marriage of nail biting action and emotional complexity.”

Shame about BrainDead - it was pretty good considering it came from one of the big three networks - quirky sense of humour and some good political satire at times, not to mention a good cast.

    Salvation

Alex Kurtzman Apocalypse Event Series Lands Straight to Series Order at CBS
CBS has given a straight-to-series order for 13 episodes of “Salvation”, a new one-hour event series from Alex Kurtzman, TheWrap has learned.

“Salvation” centers on an MIT grad student and a tech genius who bring a low-level Pentagon official a terrifying discovery–an asteroid is just six months away from colliding with Earth. The show will air in summer 2017.

“‘Salvation’ is the type of fast-paced, dramatic ride that viewers look for in a summer event series,” said Glenn Geller, president of CBS Entertainment. “We’re excited to launch another high concept, highly promotable show with great auspices that adds to our roster of year-round, original scripted programming.”

    Enemy of The State

‘Enemy Of The State’ Sequel Series From Jerry Bruckheimer Set At ABC As Put Pilot In His Return To ABC Studio
ABC has given a put pilot commitment to drama Enemy of The State, a sequel to the 1998 Tony Scott movie, which starred Will Smith and Gene Hackman. The project hails from the film’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, and ABC Studios.

Written by Blackhat scribe Morgan Davis Foehl, the drama is set two decades after the original film, when an elusive NSA spy is charged with leaking classified intelligence, an idealistic female attorney must partner with a hawkish FBI agent to stop a global conspiracy that threatens to expose dark secrets, and personal mysteries connect all three of their lives.

This marks Bruckheimer’s return to ABC Studios where he was based until the studio pulled out of the Jerry Bruckheimer TV-produced CSI shortly after the project had been picked up to series by CBS in 2000 following a pass by ABC. It would go on to become a billion-dollar franchise.

    Weaveworld

‘Weaveworld’: Josh Stolberg To Write New CW Adaptation Of Clive Barker’s Book
The CW has set a new writer for Weaveworld, its drama series project based on the 1987 dark fantasy novel by Clive Barker (Hellraiser). Josh Stolberg (Piranha 3D, Crawlspace, Good Luck Chuck) has come on board to write the adaptation, which he will also executive produce alongside Barker and Angela Mancuso for CBS TV Studios.

Weaveworld has been a priority for the CW. The network first took a stab at a series based on Barker’s book last season with the genre filmmaker and Mancuso executive producing through CBS Studios and Jack Kenny writing. While the script did not go to pilot, the CW brass remained high on the title, earmarking it for redevelopment.

In the new take on Weaveworld, two ordinary people find themselves on a quest to find and protect a magical realm and ultimately to save all of humanity from an evil force.

For decades, Weaveworld had been considered too hard to adapt for TV because of its scope and settings that would require extensive use of special effects. That is something the current technology can accomplish on a TV budget, including at a network like the CW, as evident by shows like Arrow and Flash. There have been multiple attempts at a Weaveworld miniseries in the past two decades, including by Showtime.

This marks Stolberg’s return to television where he started his writing career before segueing to features as a writer and director. He recently co-penned with Pete Goldfinger Saw: Legacy for Lionsgate, now in production. He is repped by UTA, Circle of Confusion and Karl Austen.

Another Knight Rider Reboot in the works.
Warm up the 1982 Pontiac Trans Am — and also, KITT’s vocals: Justin Lin and Machinima have teamed to bring back ’80s NBC classic “Knight Rider.”

Lin will produce through his YOMYOMF; NBCUniversal Brand Development is also on board. The new “Knight Rider” could launch in 2017, the companies said Tuesday in a joint announcement.

“‘Knight Rider’ is an iconic franchise whose concepts of AI and autonomous vehicles were science fiction in the 1980s and are now science fact,” said Machinima CEO Chad Gutstein. “Justin is one of the leading storytellers of his generation and we couldn’t be more excited to work with him on re-invigorating ‘Knight Rider’ for a new generation of fans.”

    Waco

Michael Shannon and Taylor Kitsch Starring in ‘Waco’ Miniseries Based on 1993 Siege
In February of 1993, the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) initiated a raid of the Branch Davidians ranch in Waco Texas. Led by David Koresh, the Branch Davidians were a subset of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and had operated their organization out of Waco since 1955. The ATF suspected the group of weapons violations and soon the raid quickly escalated into a shootout and a 51 day standoff, culminating in a fire that killed almost 80 of the group’s members on April 19, 1993. Now, Weinstein Television has announced that they are developing an event series based on the harrowing tale with Michael Shannon (“Midnight Special”) and Taylor Kitsch (“Friday Night Lights”), playing lead FBI negotiator Gary Noesener and Koresh respectively.

The series will be written by brothers John Erick and Drew Dowdle, who have previously collaborated on the horror films “Quarantine” and “As Above, So Below,” as well the recent action film “No Escape.” John Erick Dowdle will direct the series. It will be largely based on two biographies: “A Place Called Waco” by Branch Davidian David Thibodeau, one of the nine survivors of the final fire, and “Sinful Messiah,” written by the FBI negotiator Gary Noesner. It will explore the true-life events leading up to the siege and chronicle the 51-day standoff and will be told from several perspectives from both sides of the conflict. The Weinstein Company are expected to shop the series out to networks next month.

    Cormoran Strike

HBO Picks Up ‘Cormoran Strike’ Drama Based On J.K. Rowling’s Crime Novels
HBO has acquired US and Canadian rights to Cormoran Strike, BBC One’s high-profile new limited series based on J.K. Rowling’s bestselling crime novels, written under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. The project had been rumored to be heading to HBO since BBC One announced it in fall 2015. The two networks are frequent collaborators, and HBO also carried BBC One’s miniseries adaptation of Rowling’s novel Casual Vacancy.

British actor Tom Burke (War and Peace, The Musketeers) stars in Cormoran Strike, which will air as three separate event series, the three-hour The Cuckoo’s Calling, two-hour The Silkworm and two-hour Career Of Evil. Filming starts this fall in London

Cormoran Strike centers on Strike (Burke), a war veteran turned private detective operating out of a tiny office in London’s Denmark Street. Though he’s wounded both physically and psychologically, Strike’s unique insight and his background as an SIB Investigator prove crucial in solving three complex cases which have eluded the police.

Ben Richards (The Tunnel) wrote The Cuckoo’s Calling and The Silkworm, and Tom Edge (The Last Dragon Slayer) wrote Career of Evil. Michael Keillor (Line Of Duty) will direct The Cuckoo’s Calling.

J.K. Rowling executive produces through her production company Brontë Film & TV, alongside Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts and Elizabeth Kilgarriff.

Not surprised. It's just not that interesting a shoe at all. I find the main characters predatory and unlike able. Feel sorry for the two leads though. They deserved a better show given the shows they came off before this.

untitled series from David O. Russell

Robert De Niro/Julianne Moore Drama Lands at Amazon With 2-Season Deal
The streaming service has given the untitled series from David O. Russell a two-season order, our sister site Deadline is reporting, with a whopping $160 million commitment. Both seasons will run eight episodes each, with Oscar-nominated director Russell (Silver Linings Playbook, The Fighter) writing and directing each episode himself.

Need another reason to get excited about this? The series is reportedly a Mafia crime series — which would bring De Niro back to the glory days of GoodFellas, Casino and The Godfather Part II. (He’s also starred in a number of Russell’s recent films, including last year’s Joy, with Jennifer Lawrence.) Moore, no slouch herself, won an Emmy in 2012 for playing VP candidate Sarah Palin in the HBO movie Game Change.
News of the series first broke in August, with production company The Weinstein Company pitching the unbeatable combo of De Niro, Moore and Russell around Hollywood. This is Amazon’s second big deal with The Weinstein Company in recent weeks, following their acquisition of Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner’s next TV project.
