The fuse has been lit. They seem very angry.

Between corruption, whistleblowing scandals, angry over pay, they've lost our confidence. But just so long as they get a bigger slice of the pie than others, that's all that matters in the PS world. No accountability just be 'very angry'.

How much do you think they deserve to be paid? What would you say is a fair wage for them?

I think they want what they lost.
When times were bad, Gardai accepted pay cuts, they also now pay a pension levy, which is just another tax, because they are Gardai.
They are looking for what they lost, not more than that.

Well if you sit down meekly and take what's thrown at you then you will get very little. As the song goes " sometimes you have to fight to be a man".

That's all well and good until the country goes bankrupt one more time. PS will take a big hit the next time, because the private sector will be swept away. I do however concede that this is beyond the scope of Gardai etc.

I'd support that if times were very good.

But everything is saying it is!

Don't sell it if it isn't true!

No, it would appear that you would prefer to "spit" from your keyboard instead;)

If the Govt started charging the proper or even half the corporate rate to big businesses and stopped and cut down on a few of the non-productive farmers grants then it might not be so bad.

I see the other public sector unions are taking notice of the guards situation
Expect more public sector strikes and demands on the way !

    26% growth.

Meaningless when you look at the current state of the A and E departments. Meaningless when we have people using food banks.

The ASTI must be rubbing their hands with glee, the Government has shown that it will give in to pressure so everyone will be lining up now.

The senior civil servants were making some noise as well today I heard on the news.

Ah well at least when the Guards are out around here next summer parked in a boreen to stop the locals cutting turf they will be on better money, it's the only time of the year we see them.

    Deadly work it is.

Yep, some guy was on the radio news from IMPACT earlier saying that the Government have been banging on about Landsdowne Road being the only game in town, but the decision yesterday is a game changer.

You could almost hear him rubbing his hands in glee.. it's open season now!!

They won't. Half the schools will be open. Most people haven't got kids in secondary schools.

Everyone fears the impact of not having the police.

At least he has a well paid, guaranteed pension, and secure job for life. Spare me. What does he want exactly? 3600 euro isn't going to make his job any easier is it? Imo he clearly shouldn't have joined up. Not cut out for it at all. A police officer was killed in new York today. They are paid roughly the same as our guys and girls. Who faces more danger from day to day would you say? ?

Well I have 3 cousins & one retired uncle in the NYPD.
All of whom reckon they wouldn't be a Garda in Dublin.
    So, there you go!

No point comparing police jobs in different countries anyway imo. Look at the huge difference in urban and rural policing in this country.

50% of schools closed when the rest are open will cause an even bigger problem. Just listen back to da liveline today.

So €4000 rent allowance is also to be paid to those who aren't renting? Yes/No?

Fair enough if you can get it I guess.

Yep. Everyone gets it. Its only the guards that have difficulties paying rents after all.

No, it's only Gardai who are required to work a large distance from home.

But they'll all get it won't they, whether they're renting or not, or living in cars?

Yes because they'll either have to arrange accommodation near their station or travel a large distance to it. THE rent allowance is a compensation for the regulations that require you live a certain distance from relatives.

    Thanks; that's what I'd heard.

A rent allowance is made payable to those who don't rent.

Bit like the travel allowance for TDs then.

Do those who receive a plain clothes allowance also get a uniform cleaning and boot allowance similarly, no questions asked?
