Any chance of the sale of eir throwing a spanner in the works? I suppose they're probably too far into the plan now.

It unlikely at moment plus there waiting on seeing if they win any of the NBP.

Eir line checker is updated again.

This time around the Fiber Extreme message and Eircode checker is gone from all lines and is showing 'Although your area is enabled for eir Fibre broadband, it hasn't reached your address yet'

below this is an image and a button 'chat to an agent'. It's even showing this for people who can get up to 100mb FTTC and ADSL/FTTC packages no longer showing.

Built a house 9 years ago. Got the phone line in hoping that I could get broadband. When I contacted Eircom they told me that the local exchange was not upgraded yet. Its the Adamstown, Wexford exchange. ANyone know of any maps or places I can look to see if it has been updated yet?

http://www.openeir.ie/Our_Network/ (nga Map). Look promising for FTTH there in the next year or 2.

    2017-2020. Or 3 or 4!

Will be worth waiting on however. I'm on Vodafone 4g at the minute. Costing me €60 per month for 150Gb limit. Speeds are not great and it gets slow enough in the evening time.

Eir says it'll have all those blue lines done by 2018. Make of that what you will. It's definitely better being "on a blue line" than not!

Was that not 'open eir' which would imply the fibre will be in place in that time period?

I reckon that is not unmanageable.

Yeah I reckon they have a good enough idea of the challenges involved now to call it. I expect a lot more uptake of ftth in these areas than VDSL in urban areas because in urban areas ADSL often wasn't too bad or bad enough to force most casual users to upgrade and also UPC often offered alternatives. Assuming uptake is much higher it might take a while to actually get an appointment for the install.

So, now that we are into November, I wonder will there be any updates for us soon regarding the next batch of FTTH exchanges/areas to go live?

I doubt there will be any more live exchanges between now and end of January, Raheen in County Offaly might go live since it was supposed to be live on October 12th but missed it's date.

In Dunshaughlin there was some work on the Dunshaughlin-Ratoath road, it was ducting work similar to what went on at my road last April. Marcel posted that there was some fiber on poles along the Batterstown-Trim road, but I haven't seen fiber on poles anywhere else in the Dunshaughlin exchange area. Unless there is a sudden update on the Open Eir map looks like we'll all be waiting into 2017 to enjoy our new connections.

So you reckon 3 months and Eir are just going to sit it out? Certainly looks that way!

they are not sitting it out, they are still doing preparation stages in many areas and things are obviously going way slower than expected. They are also hiring extra teams to get the project moving quicker. Hopefully they will hit the ground running after New Year's Day with an increased number of teams and much more widespread progress.

When I say that it will be 2017 before the majority of us start using the service, im referring to the amount of time that passes between an area being wired up and customers using the connection for first time, there is about a 4 week wait after an area is wired up before anything can be ordered and then maybe a week or 2 weeks for the guys to call over and connect you up, so your looking at a minimum 5 to 6 weeks after your line is wired up. It's now start of November and nothing is gonna happen in the second half of December. Im sure some places will get wired up between now and Christmas but they wont be live till the waiting period is over.

Is there definitely a 4 week wait before the product can be ordered?

They are required to give other providers 4 weeks notice to allow them to compete.
They cannot do installs during that period.

    Aah...I see...I didn't know that...:(

The map has been updated. Some more areas with dates added:

    All the 16th of November:
    Ballyboden (Dublin)
    Ballyclough (Cork)
    Belcarra (Mayo)
Bray (Wicklow) (Not in Rural Rollout)
    Courtown Harbour (Wexford)
    Dungloe (Donegal)

Rahan in Offaly is partially live with 150 premises passed.

I didn't have time to check the map for slipped dates. I'll do that later.

Rahan is half done, 150/300 premises
good to see a little bit of progress.

Perhaps a few more places will go partially live before Friday 23rd December.

Edit: have spotted some slipages with dates first live 2017/2018.

I see Belcarra is in that list there.
Surely that was the pilot rural fibre scheme with 70 addresses set up in May 2015.
Perhaps that's just gone from pilot to live now, but it might not be fresh fibre.

Perhaps they have extended the footprint slightly.

As an aside, are you in the Tara area? It got a live date for FTTC of the 23rd of November.

in Meath the following have slipped:

    Batterstown: Spring 2017
    OldCastle: 2017/2018
    Slane: 2017/2018
    Kilcock: 2017/2018

Edit: some fo the 2017/2018 dates are new dates but 2017/2018 is so vague they could be waiting up to 2 years.

Were they all not originally 2017 - 2020? They just changed the 2020 to 2018 as per their recent announcement.

Doesn't matter - most of us here are so far from the exchange, nothing except FTTH will work. We've never had DSL/ADSL/VDSL here. nowt!

I'm the last house on the blue line, and I'm more than 12km by cable from that cabinet :-(

That said, the site also has a date for FTTH. Let's see how that goes!

Estimated date for first Live Fibre Services is 23 November 2016.
Estimated date for first Live FTTH Fibre Services is Spring 2017

fairly certain Oldcastle was down for h2 2017. Batterstown moved from Winter 2016/Spring 2017 to Spring 2017. Like most exchanges Batterstown was originally listed as Autumn/Winter 2016 so it's been put back twice.

Most of the 2017-2020s are still there.

Would be nice to be updating with early completions instead of slippages.
